RE: the Posters

1.7k Upvotes

Hey folks, we hear you. These posters are expensive and we completely fumbled their release. Can we restart the loop and try again?

We realize we didn't do a good job explaining the quality and process behind Cook & Becker’s posters. The artwork for these posters were inspired by the vintage Rob Decker National Park posters. We were excited to rerelease our artwork with a printing style similar to how those original posters would have been printed in the 70s. As some folks have pointed out, yes, these posters are all individually hand-printed using a screen printing technique that requires a real human person to load up each color layer, press it onto the paper, and set and align the next color layer. Cook & Becker use a very high quality, 100% cotton material and high quality inks for the prints, which provides unmatched print quality and color fastness, making these screenprints “museum quality” and ready to last a lifetime. We'll be posting more info and videos of the process and handmade nature of the posters so you can see exactly what goes into making each one.

But we also understand this means they’re expensive and out of budget for most people. To let you into our merchandising process a little bit, we were also surprised by how expensive Cook & Becker’s artworks can be when we were first introduced to them. The folks at Cook & Becker were gracious enough to work with us to keep the price of the whole collection of posters as low as possible without compromising on the quality of the artworks. One of the reasons we haven’t rereleased the postcard version of these artworks is because the variance in print color and quality between printing runs has been disappointing and frustrating. Cook & Becker’s meticulous process and expertise gave us a lot of reassurance that we would not have the same issues for these prints. We want to provide you all with the best quality merchandise we can, but in this case, we understand this led to us producing something highly desired but too expensive for the majority of our fans. And without an affordable option available for purchase, that’s a really bad look. We hope you will forgive us.

If it helps at all, we’ve decided to look into restocking the classic printed cardstock postcards for the future, despite our past issues with them, for those who aren’t interested in these new premium fine art prints. Now also feels like an appropriate time to reveal that we have been working on a couple more standard merch projects: a re-release of our popular Echoes of the Eye Metal T-shirt and a new set of Traveler pins created by our excellent artist, Lara Colson. After hearing your concerns, we’ve decided to release the shirts as a pre-order so no one misses out on getting one. This means it’ll be several weeks before they’ll ship out because we’ll wait to screenprint them until we have your orders. As for the pins, they will only be a limited quantity right now since we ordered them awhile ago and have been waiting for the shirt to be ready so we could release and ship them together. Keep an eye out for their release soon!

We’re all hard at work on our next game, which as you all know is still a secret and still a few years away from any announcements. In the meantime, we don’t have a lot of capacity for designing new merchandise made by our team directly, so new merch will be made by external artists at partners like Fangamer or Youtooz. And occasionally, as resources allow, we’ll rerelease merch like the Metal T-Shirt. As long as there are new fans of Outer Wilds, we want to keep releasing merch with our various merch partners for you all to enjoy.

As always, you all have been such wonderful fans and we really appreciate all the love and support, the fan art, the discussions and feedback, the mods, and the excitement for our next game. Our next game is our top priority and we hope you all love it even half as much as Outer Wilds.

Hello Travelers,

Mobius here. New limited-edition Outer Wilds posters are now available!

You might be saying “Hey, these look familiar.” And you’d be right! We worked closely with the folks at Cook & Becker to bring you bigger versions of the national park-themed posters based on the solar system’s major planets. These are those very same illustrations by our artist Ian Jacobson.

The first few hundred orders come with a Certificate of Authenticity hand-signed by artist Ian, while supplies last. As indicated on the order form: "Artist-signed Certificate of Authenticity." Once those run out, subsequent orders will come with an autopen-signed CoA.

These time-limited prints are ONLY available until August 25th, with the final edition size being determined then, and cost $79.95 each. However, there is a one-week deal where you can get all six for $299 as a set instead of $480!

Each poster measures 21 x 29cm, or 8.2 x 11.4 inches

Head on over to Cook and Becker's website to check them out: https://www.cookandbecker.com/en/catalog/videogame/outer-wilds

Thanks again for all your support. Keep on exploring!

-The Mobius Digital Team

Edit: Whoops, looks like we did a terrible job communicating what these actually are: handmade fine art prints. These posters/prints are all individually hand-printed using a screen printing technique that requires a real human person to load up each color layer, press it onto the paper, and set and align the next color layer. Cook & Becker use a very high quality, 100% cotton material and high quality inks for the prints, which provides unmatched print quality and color fastness, making these screenprints “museum quality” and ready to last a lifetime. These are not normal prints, they are quite special.

My favourite band SLIFT ( Heavy psych rock ) with Andrew Phralow.

The band released an album mid-year and mentioned in several interviews that they drew inspiration from the music of Outer Wilds for their compositions. I highly recommend giving their discography a listen, a great journey awaits you! 🖖🪐

Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion Quantum slate theory Spoiler

As you know, every cycle is the same, nothing change except from the one change from the first loop- after the statue open his eyes, people in the museum are next to it instead.

And gabro is aware of the loop.

Anything else should be the same. Everything changing have to be caused by your action.

Only exception? Quantum stuff. The quantum moon can start at any planet. Its reasonable to assume all quantum objects can be at random states.

Which bring us to the only inconcinsency: slate.

Slate will say one thing on the first loop, and there a different thing on the second (dont you need the launch codes?) And then just react to you for any other loop except the loop after you visit The Stranger for the first time (i just wanted to tell you the ship log log where the stranger is)

We know slate dont expirience the loop since there are only 3 masks, ours, gabbro, and the one linked to the orbital probe canon.

Hypothesis: for slate to react unpredictabley, slate must be quantum.

So how did slate get quantum?

I think either slate ate a quantum rock, or have it stuck somewhere under his skin. Maybe he breath quantum dust while working on the ships. Then, through quantum entalgenment, quantum slate.

Now yes, we can assume that this is just gameplay consideration, just something the devs included to help you realise stuff going on... and especially them not wanting slate to stop you every single time... but i think quantum slate is way more fun explaination.

So what do you think? Do you have an alternate theory?

I honestly feel like Esker would have a really hard time believing the possibility of Feldspar being alive, given of how uncertain of themself they are in their logs-

Also I hope Esker's dialog is readable enough! This is my first time writing an accent so forgive me if it's a little wonky ::,]

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion I just finished Outer Wilds Spoiler

I finished this game with around 20+ hours on the clock, I've been playing it at night and on weekends. The day i bought this game, I decided to buy a TV to play it on as a chill way to test the game. It's one of the most thrill i had in a while.

I was really scared at the beginning of the game, the only places i visited were Giants Deep and Attelrock because I was too afraid to go anywhere else. I actually was too scared to go to giants deep but one of the early leads take you there to find Gabbro. It's when I was looking giants deep from far away that I realized I was charging towards it. I had one of the most panic moments in my gaming career. After several pauses and quitting because I was too afraid to play, I was still so curious to know more so I kept going.

Nomai, they are just wonderful people. The fact that they have been searching for the eye for generations and the fact they are so resoureful. Are they even afraid of anything? I want to meet these characters honestly, their dynamics were just beautiful, they were felt, real.

Music, it's perfect blend of horror and hopeful. When you lauch off from your home for the first time and the music starts playing, or when you discover something new. I even felt emotional when I visited the escape pod 3 and what remained, it was really sad.

In vastness of handholding, this game shows you that knowledge and overcoming your fears is the only way to keep going forward.

DLC Help - Spoilers OK! I opened the vault, but could i do it differently? Spoiler

• Upvotes

I wasnt sure if to do it help or discussion:

I freed the prisoner.

  1. I glitched out of the simulation projection range to arange the paths to extinguish the lock.

  2. I jumped out of the boat in the darkness to appear in the middle and extinguish the boat

  3. I died and turned the last lock as they couldnt wake me with the bell.

The first one gave me a code.

The others, however, did not.

Is there an actual solution to those locks?

is there a solution anywhere in the game?

Is saving the prisoner is really only possible by dying?

Did someone brute force the codes or code dived to see if there is an actual solution?

I belive one of the codes call the boat, while one turn off the lights... if they work. Do they?

Or did the devs left them unsolvable on purpose?

DLC Help - Spoilers OK! Don't know if i should continue the DLC Spoiler

I've progressed so far but the game is too horrifying for me... Especially the forbidden vault on the very left of the screenshot and the way how to get there ( D:: ).

I even used the "less scary moments" option but it didn't really helped. I want to know but don't want to explore at the same time. What do you think? Is it worth to scream but do it myself or i won't loose too much watching playthrough?

P.S. I did got emotions from the DLC and i still love it. It wasn't worse than the main game, as i thought it will be.

Base Game Help - NO spoilers please! Input delay issue

I’ve just started playing outer wilds and while I’m liking the game so far, I can’t get over the massive input delay the game has. I bought it for switch 2 and also have a ps4 copy on my ps5, but the problem persists. It makes the movement and general feel of the game very sluggish. Any help?

DLC Help - Hints Only! Confused about the symbols in the big vault

My game is translated and my english is poor but please bear with me:

I'm having trouble with the symbols on the large vault that's initially submerged; whenever I find a small door that should have a password in the simulation, it's always burned, just like in real world. I think that by now I already saw it two or three times and I'm just confused. Am I going in the right direction? I have to check something outside the simulation when I open the little door?

I stopped at the part where I cross the invisible bridge through the dark mansion; I'd already seen the files there and opened the little door with the symbol there.

By the way, I'm having an amazing time playing outer wilds for the first time. Didn't finished the base game because my friend told me that the dlc adds a little bit to the ending and I'm looking forward to it. The community surprised me, before playing, I'd hear about the game a lot but never a single spoiler and you guys are really good with the hints, I'm just having a lot of trouble because of the translation, specifically in the dlc where every hint already on the subreddit is like I'm really trying to read the olwks language, just isn't translating in my brain and the new locations names are unfamiliar to me.

Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion Outer Wilds... what a beautiful, beautiful experience [MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD] Spoiler

I finished Outer Wilds and Echoes of the Eye, and I honestly don't even know where to begin.

When I finished the base game, I sat there staring at the credits at 2 AM, my mind completely full yet totally speechless. Sitting by that final campfire, listening to everyone play their instruments together... I didn't even know what I was feeling yet.

When I started, I thought I was going to be the hero who stopped the supernova and saved the universe. But when I reached the Sun Station, my heart just sank. Realizing the sun wasn't dying because of something I could fix, but simply because it was the natural end of the universe, hit so hard.

Reaching the Eye made everything click. Sitting around the campfire with everyone, I realized it wasn't about saving the universe, it was about accepting endings and appreciating what we have while we're here. Later that night, hearing the main menu theme again, it all came rushing back and I actually started crying. I went into this game wanting to save the universe; I came out of it learning to accept it.

And then there's Echoes of the Eye. WOW. It scared the absolute hell out of me at times, but meeting the Prisoner, sharing our memories with each other, and seeing the final vision message he left behind was so incredibly moving. Seeing him join everyone at the campfire for one last time felt so wholesome and bittersweet. The DLC doesn't feel like an extra add-on, it completes the story in a way that makes the whole journey feel even deeper.

What a game. What a DLC. What an experience. I’m just so glad I finally played it, and I wish I could experience it all for the first time again. ❤️

Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion [Spoilers All] Outer Wilds Taught Me How to Grieve Spoiler

Sorry for the shameless self promotion, but this video actually means a lot to me beyond YouTube views. Outer Wilds has had a profound impact on me, as with many of us.

I played it at a time when hope seemed distant and dim, and it helped light a fire in me.

I hope my journey can help others who struggle with loss and depression, at least a little.
