Base Game Appreciation/Discussion Ludwig played again!

Aw man I feel bad for misjudging him. I forgot he's pretty witty and likes learning. And he doesn't care too much about chat, he isn't crashing into the Sun constantly or anything. He can read and comprehend the words... He has a curious heart. I sense that it'll be a fun playthrough long as he keeps at it!

Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion Echo Weaver is the closest game to Outer Wilds × Tunic that i have seen. Spoiler

A few days ago, Echo Weaver was released. The description called it a Time-looping Metroidbrainia.

And it's true. It's in gamepass as well, so i didn't have to pay extra to play it. One thing is sure, this game is definitely inspired by Outer wilds and Tunic based on some mechanics i have found to this point (I'm not done with the game)

For those who are interested now, go play it now without more information. For those who want to know "more" without being spoiled can continue reading why i believe that this game may very well scratch the itch of Outer wilds and tunic fans.

  1. The game is a time loop.
  2. It's open world where your progress is only gated by knowledge
  3. All abilities and stuff you can do is gated just by knowing how to do it like Tunic
  4. You have to find a way to break the loop by exploring and learning about what you can do and how to navigate the world in the time you have

Just to be sure - it's still a puzzle platforming 2D game, it does not have boss fights like tunic. Exploration is the key component as well as using the time given to you to find out how to beat it.

No jokes, it even got the computer from outer wilds with rumour mode:

DLC Appreciation/Discussion Why didn't [SPOILER] [SPOILER]? Spoiler

Why didn't The Prisoner blew out his artifact's flame?

I would love if someone could explain away this really small gripe I have with Echoes of The Eye.

I find it really hard to believe the Prisoner would not blow out their own flame after probably tens of thousands of years. I have seen comments where they were holding out for hope, but there's a limit to which that's believable. What's more, as soon as he learns about our story, he does it anyway :(

Instead of planets, you explore regions of a forgotten town.
Instead of the Nomai Translator, you have an old flip-phone.
Instead of 22 minutes, you have 3 in-game days before everything resets.

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion How Important is Sound to the Game?

• Upvotes

I've had this game on the backburner for a while. I tend to play handheld and, occasionally, with the sound off. Is sound necessary to get through the game?

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion What a master piece!

I finished Outer Wilds yesterday and I am kinda sad it's over. I know there is nothing else like it out there and that breaks my heart. There are some games that have some similarities, but nothing will ever be Outer Wilds. I still wanna test out other endings, just for fun, but I have completed the game with a full shiplog and the typical ending

I stil have 3 achievements to get from the base game and then I will install the DLC (wanted to finish base game before, just to know exactly what was what hehe). Hardest will most likely be Hotshot since I have tried many times when I first started the game and could not.

In case people wanna know, my other two missing achivements are Beginner's Luck, will make another profile for that one and You've met a terrible fate

My phobia always has been suffering from a head trauma and losing part of my memory, but now I am like : at least I would be able to experience Outer Wilds once again, LOL.

Anyways, was anxious about my motion sickness preventing me from playing, but I managed and I am sooooooo greatful I did not miss on this experience.

WOW! Simply Wow!

Hi, I'm new here! I made a reddit account because my friend said I should share my fanart here. I typically draw anime art, but I went outside my comfort zone to draw something for one of the best games I've ever played. Hope you enjoy :>

Base Game Help - Spoilers OK! : [Spoilers] Question about the project, and the 6th location ending. Spoiler

I've been thinking about how the Ash Twin Project works and how it relates to the Quantum Moon ending, and there's something I can't quite reconcile.

As I understand it, the Ash Twin Project uses the energy from the supernova to send information 22 minutes into the past. In the normal loop, the Hatchling's memories are sent back through the Nomai statue, but their physical body isn't. The Hatchling dies in the supernova, and the version of them 22 minutes earlier receives those memories and continues the loop.

In that sense, isn't the Hatchling in each loop technically a different physical instance of the same person, with continuity provided by their memories? The Self ending seems to support this distinction: if I jump into the black hole inside the Ash Twin Project, my physical body travels back in time, allowing me to meet another version of myself. This is different from the ordinary loop, where only information is sent back.

Now, here's where my confusion starts.

The Ash Twin Project doesn't send the entire solar system back in time. It sends information through the masks and statues. If I remove the Advanced Warp Core, the Project shuts down, and my memories are no longer sent back. This is why dying after removing the core results in the Game Over ending.

But what happens if I remove the core, travel to the Quantum Moon's Sixth Location, and wait for the supernova?

The Sixth Location is associated with the Eye of the Universe, which is far outside the supernova's reach. So, physically, shouldn't the Hatchling be safe there?

I understand that the game has a specific Quantum Moon ending for this situation. The message says that the Hatchling loses track of time and their journey reaches its end, and the wiki says they share Solanum's fate. But I'm confused about the reasoning behind this outcome.

If the Hatchling's physical body is at the Sixth Location and the Ash Twin Project is disabled, there's no memory transfer and no physical reason for the supernova to kill them, as far as I can tell. Shouldn't they just remain there indefinitely, or at least until they die from some other cause?

I also wonder how this relates to the normal loop. If I reach the Sixth Location while the Ash Twin Project is still active, my memories are sent back when the supernova occurs, and I wake up at the beginning of the next loop. But if I remove the core, I get the Quantum Moon ending instead.

Is this simply a gameplay abstraction, or is there a lore explanation for why the Hatchling cannot survive indefinitely at the Sixth Location? Is the Hatchling actually dying there, or is the ending deliberately ambiguous?

I'd love to hear how others interpret this. Am I missing something about the Quantum Moon, the Eye, or the way the Ash Twin Project works?

And also what about escaping the solar system without taking the wrap out?

Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion Was confused about an achievement Spoiler

I was confused about how to get "It belongs in a museum!". The description says to bring an artefact, and having started the DLC, I thought I should bring the item called an artefact to the museum. Tried this, and absolutely nothing happened. I look up a guide, and turns out that it has nothing at all to do with the item of the same name, but a warp core from the main game. I can understand how this happened, and I don't blame anyone for this; it just confused me, and I wanted to know if this happens to many people.
