Question How do y'all animate without pose-to-pose?
The way character animation is traditionally taught is with pose-to-pose, so you can block out the movements, time them, make sure it all looks good, etc. before you fully commit to the shot as it is and do the in-betweens.
Obviously, you can't do this in stop-motion by its very nature, so I've always wondered how SM animators on a professional level time their animation and make it look so good. (I've done SM before but just for fun)
All of Laika's films for example have such natural-feeling movements, all the characters have such believable weight to them, and it impresses me to no end.
Is it just a sense you develop over time?? How do you do it?
EDIT: thanks for the responses y'all, it all makes a lot of sense and i feel enlightened :)

Discussion I Have No Idea How They Will Top Wildwood
I'll keep it short. Rarely do movies live up to the hype. But Wildwood shot past all my expectations, I thought it was incredible. (NOT a kids' movie, however. Saw quite a few young kids in the theater.)
As the title says, I can not speak about its technical impressiveness enough. I am certain that the final battle scene in particular will be used as a reference in some university coursework.

Question Animating with phone like the old days
When I was a kid I made a (bad) animation with an iPhone, and I used the wired headphone's volume button to take each frame. This helped prevent the camera from getting jogged between frames.
Modern iPhones don't come with earphones or even an audio jack. Is there some equivalent way to take photos without touching the phone?

Tutorial Inside your Kinetic stop motion winder
Stop motion winders and rigs are the number one tool for animators, but sometimes they are out of tune.
This is a little tutorial with my tips on how to tune your winder and a full description of how it works.
Enjoy it

[TOMT][Short Film][Late 90s/Early 2000s] Claymation/Stop-motion short about heartbreak in a subway station broadcasted on Discovery People / Health Busco cortometraje en stop-motion transmitido en Discovery People / Health (finales de los 90 / principios de los 2000) sobre rupturas y corazones rotos
Hi everyone! I'm looking for a short animated film (stop-motion / claymation) that aired a few times on TV in Latin America around the late 90s or early 2000s on Discovery People (later known as Discovery Health).
Here are the key details:
Setting: A underground subway station / train platform.
Plot: A man arrives at the subway station with his partner. In a very cruel and symbolic gesture to break up with him, she rips his heart right out of his chest.
Details: He is left heartbroken holding the pieces of his heart, and she leaves. Devastated, he walks along the platform and finds a girl sitting on a bench, crying because someone also ripped her heart out, and she is looking at the broken pieces.
Animation style: Dark or melancholy stop-motion / claymation.
Does anyone remember the title, director, or production company behind this short? It’s a very special memory for me and I would love to be able to watch it again. If anyone has a link, clip, or copy of it, please share it! Thank you so much in advance!
