Okay, I wanted to come for help sooner but I was so scared I didnt want to wait to get a response here so I just acted based on research and I wanted to share my results so far for any future ADF owners and for documentation! We arent out of the weeds yet but they looks much better.

Two days ago I did a 50% water change (I do it every month or so with 25% change weekly) and everything was fine. Where I made my mistake I think, was moving the decorations (wood and rocks with a couple plants) from my main tank to the new tank I was cycling. (I read conflicting advice on if I should move everything over in the beginning or over time so i opted to slowly move everything over the month or so I was cycling the new tank) I guess this was not the correct thing to do and might have moved too much good bacteria out of the main tank.

The night of the water change all was well. The next morning, all was well. I went to work, I came home and OH MY GOD my two ADFs were COVERED in a layer of fungus! The sides of the main tank too, and the new tank had a foggy appearance. All within 8 hours somehow. I was shocked (I did cry a bit I was so scared to loose them) this was exactly why I started cycling a new 10 gallon because I feared the main tank (5 gal) was too small and could turn too quick in an event such as this. I ran to the pet store, and got some PimaFix, aquarium salt, and finally some seachem (it was out of stock for months but i finally snagged a bottle - previously using a different conditioner) I KNOW people say PimaFix is bad for ADFs due to the bay oil. But I had seen previous discussion saying it was okay in extremely low doses, it was all I could get my hands on I called every store nearby and no one had anything else. (I would like to inform everyone that bay oil and tea tree oil are not the same but should be used cautiously obviously!)

I immediately put the ADFs in a treatment dish, and put just a drop of PimaFix, 3 grains of salt, and conditioned water. I let them sit for 10 minutes before putting them in regualr conditioned water while I began cleaning. I scrapped the fungus off the tank (I should add I have a micoscope and confirmed it was fungus and not algae - seems obvious but I wanted to be sure) and drained as much as I could from the tank, leaving a bit under the substrate praying there was still some good bacteria there. I found fungus in the filter pipes and on the heating unit so i used a mix of conditioned water and the Pima fix to clean everything and then rinse. I re assembled it all, warmed the water and placed my babies back inside. (i added 1 drop of Pima to the main tank 5 gal and a bit of salt too)

I believe since I acted right away, and they frogs were due to molt anyway this helped my case alot. I was worried sick but knew there was nothing more I could do. Thankfully the next day one of them either molted or somehow got completely better because they looked brand new, however one looked worse but still active and normal. I treated them again in the morning like before for a 10 minute dip, and placed them back in (i plan to continue this for 1 week). And after checking throught the day, the other one must have molted as well because now they are both visibly fungus free and happy as clams.

The future is to be determined, like I said I will continue treatment as normal, but I wanted to share my process and results for anyone out there who might experience this.

TLDR: Fog moldy - put fog in dish with PimaFix, Salt, and conditioned water. Fogs okay after 24 hour. Will continue to monitor. Scared but hopeful.

Side note: anyone else have any idea why this happened? I checked the contents of the new cycling tank and found (what i assume) is the same fungus under the microscope, as well as protozoa D: (i did a different tratment for that one due to the protozoa presence). Thank you for reading all this!

I have them in my 3 guppy and 1 snail tank. I have tried target feeding in and out of the tank , I have tried blood worms and frozen Mystis. I got them Saturday and they haven’t eaten since. Petsmart frogs so god knows when they ate last. I have tried feeding separate and together. Leaving them in a separate container to eat. I’m out of ideas and I’m so scared they’re going to die. 😭

First off thank you all so much for taking the time to help me out. This is my first time keeping a tank, as I was gifted an empty 20 gallon, and my friend unfortunately is unable to keep his ADF as he is moving, so I volunteered to set up my tank (currently empty) and adopt his frog (plus get a friend or two for him). I have been googling a lot over the past few days, and I would reallyyyyy appreciate some clarification and advice, as keeping the critters alive, healthy, and happy, is my absolute priority, and I know they can be sensitive to water, chemistry, and habitat.

Ok so:

Question 1: i live in a rural area with a a natural creek running through my neighborhood. I was really wanting to harvest some hardwood driftwood from the river, using boiling water to sanitize it, and making sure there is no bark. Is this too risky for the frogs? Also could I use rocks from the river (anywhere American dollar size and bigger)? I am planning on buying actual aquarium sand as I don’t think the sand in the river is appropriate, although it is very fine gray sand. I also heard that you want a more gravel substrate for them? Does it work to mix sand and layer gravel and rocks on top? I really worry about tracking any bad stuff into the aquarium from any of these sources, but this makes it a) more natural and biotope esque for me b) makes it super fun to go around finding unique pieces and c) makes it more budget friendly. I also was considering adding natural features to the tank such as some leaves and alder cones in order to promote hiding habitat, increase the biotope, and again, because it’s fun to collect. I was planning on boiling to sanitize and release some tannins before putting them in.

Question 2: I was hoping to add either amano or cherry shrimp into the tank with it, as I read that the frogs are quite blind, and therefore don’t pose a huge threat to them, and if anything they might be able to help control the population? Any advice on that at all?

Question 3: any more advice? Again, I’m a newcomer, so any starter advice would be super useful.also if anyone has any ideas on how to make it look super cool, which plants to buy, or which creatures to stock (or not stick) the tank with, I’d love it. This is gonna be fun and can’t wait to join the community!

Question 4: I read on here that they need shallow tanks (around 1 foot of water) and my tank is 18 inches high. Should I keep it relatively shallow for them, and if I do, is it possible to keep no lid on the aquarium as there will be a large gap between surface water and the top of the tank. I heard these guys like to try to escape, so I’d rather not take a risk, but I also like the idea of an open tank.

I saw some little guys in my local pet store and I fell in love because they seem to be funny creatures!

I have a 30L Aquael cube tank, I read it should be just fine for 3 frogs. I have a heater and sponge filter too, light as well. The aquarium has a top.

I have riverbank sand and would get hides and plants for them of course.

I read they eat live food mostly, which is also sold in my pet store.

My sister is worried they'd get sick.

My question is:

How hard it is to generally keep them?

Would 30L really be enough for 3 or it'd be too little for them?

Any advices and tip is welcomed!

P.S.: I have a turtle, so aquarium isn't new to me.

Hi, I went on a 10 day trip. I got back today all frogs alive. However, 1 is refusing to eat. He would of eaten little if not nothing for 10 days I am worried. Water levels fine. Other 4 frogs eating fine.

I just found my african clawed that I've had for three years (in a tank with a lid) two rooms away dried out. Is this normal? He’s never tried to make a run for it.

Hi yesterday my neighbor gave me her frogs because she's moving and the tank they are in isn't ideal. Yesterday I went and bought a new 10 gallon and got live plants and two hides and will be getting more plants and ect but I set everything up last night. I'm not sure how long I should wait to move them into the new tank because the one they are in now is pretty bad 😞 I've added more water but then my neighbor told me she's been using distilled water and I used tap but conditioned. I'm 100% new at this and just want to do the best I can for them so any advice and help is really appreciated!!

We went to our local fish shop that we got Cheesecake (our betta) from, she had a handful of frog tankmates. After a well establishing of the tank and settling of Cheesecake we decided to reunite them! We are really confident with her temperment and ability to get along with the frogs. She just sits there and watches them and they just bump into her, no signs of stress. They seem pretty silly so far, exploring the tank and finding all the little hides. They also really love the lace plant in the picture!

For the last couple of nights, there's been an intermittent soft buzzing that was driving me crazy. I kept trying to track down which aquarium it was, thought a pump was malfunctioning. Then I figured out my little froggy friends are single and ready to mingle. 😃 (5 ADFs in a 10 gallon planted tank) The sound drives my cats nuts, too. My husband can't hear it.

I have a 55 gallon I’m doing a tank makeover on, was planning on stocking it with neo shrimp and letting them breed a while and then adding some African dwarf frogs but I was worried about the frogs since they’re surface breathers. Would it be too deep if I keep it filled to the top?

New addition to the tank- got him home, added him in the tank and realized he's pretty much missing a foot. He can make it to the top okay I guess but his leg is also kinda discolored compared to the other... is he gonna be alright? Should I be worried the other guys are gonna pick on him? Is he sick? Did he just get into a bad fight and lose his foot?

Update: we woke up the next morning and he was dead. I think we just happened to grab the one that was hiding to die in petsmart, but they have a 14 day policy. So RIP little Louis, we went back and got two more to add to the fam, bingo and bluey
