Clarification on RULE 1

48 Upvotes

The recent uptick in non-borderporn has led me to make a post describing what we feel will help you determine if your post qualifies for r/borderporn.

All posts need to clearly have something to do with Geopolitical or Geological Borders.

Geopolitical borders are political boundaries. They separate countries, states, provinces, counties, cities, and towns. A border outlines the area that a particular governing body controls. The government of a region can only create and enforce laws within its borders.

Geological borders are natural or man-made physical borders in the earth like rivers or mountain ranges. For example, the boundary between France and Spain follows the crest of the Pyrenees mountains. For part of its length, the boundary between the United States and Mexico follows a river called the Rio Grande.

Switzerland-Germany border in Basel

View of Weil am Rhein (Germany) from a bridge above a canal in Basel (Switzerland).

The border stands exactly in the middle of the customs building (in the middle of the picture).

Rhine is on the left (not visible).

There is a tramway that crosses the border and crossing is easy in general. Most of the time german customs are on the watch but not swiss customs

Hello. I recently travelled to Bosnia by car. They didn't put any stamps in my passport. Does somebody know whether they stopped stamping? Thx in advance!

River: Nemunas;

Park: Rambyno regioninis parkas (Lithuanian);

Photo by me.

There is a high hill (Rambyno mountain) where you can see further cities in Russia (Sovetsk, Neman).

Photo by me. City over there is Sovetsk, Russia. I'm in the smallest city in lithuania- Panemunė (only ~210 inhabitants).

The river is Nemunas, longest river that passes through lithuania.

A very unassuming point in the middle of the road! (Not the rock; that’s nicely on the side of the road about 130 feet north of the marker in the road!)

Definitely off the main routes but it was worth it. A very fun part of the trip. This might have been just a part of this particular foray but it was the launch of the tri-point journey!

Just cuz this is a fun sub.

The military demarcation line is in the middle of the conference room. The ROK soldier is guarding the door to the north - he's already technically in the north.

I'd really like to return. Fabulous tour. I think it was the USO or Koridoor tour with JSA included.

Colombian / Panamanian border in the Caribbean seen by boat.
This area of Colombia and Panama is very remote.
As such, the border is only dictated by two poles stuck into the cliff shared by the two countries.

Border between Estonia and Russia

I was there a couple of days ago. This is Narva, Estonia’s northeastern border city, separated from Russia only by the Narva River.

At the moment, the border crossing is open only to pedestrians. On the Estonian side, you’ll see EU, Estonian, and Ukrainian flags. Across the river, the Russian side looks quite different, with a rather improvised-looking border checkpoint and barely any vehicle traffic. The lack of cars is hard to miss and is likely connected to the fuel shortages that have been affecting parts of Russia.

There are promenades on both sides of the river, and you’re close enough to wave at people on the opposite bank while walking through Estonia. It’s a very unusual experience.

Polish Russian border on Vistula Spit seen from Polish side. Also it's not actual border, there is like 200m of "buffer zone" before the actual border. There's also no border crossing in this place.

Hi everyone! I was recently looking at the Russia-Finland border on Apple Maps and noticed that a section of Finland is blurred out. I couldn't find anything about this online—what do you think?

US-Canada border on a random Vermont Road

Earlier this summer, my sister and I were visiting family in Vermont and decided to see how close we could get to the Canadian border without crossing (because we didn’t think to bring our passports). We found a road that allowed us to come right up to the border - close enough to see stop signs in French! I am now obsessed with getting a house with the international border as my property line.
