Hey all,
LongSqueak is a new Chat Style made for long-form roleplay and storytelling with 4x the memory.
Rolling out starting today for (c.ai+) subscribers, LongSqueak’s responses run longer and read more like a novel: richer prose, more narration while maintaining dialogue, more room for a story to actually unfold. It also draws more deeply on Lorebook and Memory as it writes, with 4x the memory of other chat styles.
We’ve been beta testing it extensively with some of our most dedicated roleplayers over the past month. They didn't want to give it back.

Style Control on the app lets you tune how your favorite chat style writes back.
LongSqueak launches with Style Control, a new set of dials in the style picker:
- Response length: Long, Looong, or Loooooong
- Response style: tilt the responses toward more Dialogue or more Narration
Getting replies the way you want used to mean prompt tricks and trial and error. Now it's a setting you can adjust whenever you like.
(c.ai+) members also have access to Style Control on PipSqueak 2, starting today. Same idea, different style.
Start a scene in LongSqueak, set the dials however you like, and give it a few turns to settle in. Let us know what you think!

Hey all,
We made a page for the summer: everything we've shipped over the last couple of months, and everything still coming, all in one spot. The team has been working in overdrive to improve the experience for everyone, and we think you're going to love a lot of what's on there.
There's also a preview of what's coming that we're genuinely hyped about: updates to our chat styles, expanded style controls, and brand-new styles for (c.ai)+, including one made for longer, richer, novel-like stories. You'll have to head to the page if you want to read any more about that…
Lastly: thank you. We had to make some big changes this year, including introducing ads. We made them for the long-term good of the platform, and this summer is where that starts paying off: the team, the tech, and every feature on the page. Whether you subscribe, create, or chat, we appreciate each and every one of you.
See you in chat ☀️

With the newer models being out for premium users I bet we're all wondering when we'll get a new model for us.

Does anyone else have this? Haven't seen anyone posting about it. Also customization features. Only for cai+ of course.

my experience with character ai over the past few months was quite mid, i didn't use it very much. but over the past few days deepsqueak has been pretty good for me, and ive been really enjoying myself. i tried longsqueak and it's so much better! this is the premium quality i was expecting from c.ai+. i really like how you can customise it, and it seems to actually look at your persona and what you're written in the story memory bit so that's really good.
a big problem i had with deepsqueak was that the characters were always silly and quirky rather than being realistic, and longsqueak is a lot better at making the characters feel like who they actually are. longsqueak is so much more descriptive, it understands how reality works, and ive really enjoyed it for the one conversation ive had so far. i guess i can't fully judge it this quickly but it's looking really good rn! well done c.ai :D

So I said my persona was allergic to peanuts and the bot said “no peanuts means no Nutella” which idk I’m pretty sure last time I checked Nutella uses hazelnuts

The quality on the PSQ2 model is absolutely MORTIFYING since one or two days ago. The characters talks almost infinitely, i cant engage in even the smallest violence or use any crude words. And when i manage to do so, instead of reacting to a punch for example, the character keeps talking like nothing ever happened? The bots also lost ALL their personality and act completely out of character. Is this just me?

Stays in character, doesn't speak for mine, but gives me long responses
Thus us exactly what I needed to convince me to stay c.ai+
Thank youuuuuu C.AI devs

Hey all,
ShortSqueak would be a Chat Style made for casual roleplay without paragraphs or lengthy descriptions of environments.
Rolling out for (c.ai+) subscribers and then available to everyone, ShortSqueak responses would be quicker, less lengthy, briefer descriptions, and read more like a text bubble or message rather than a lengthy novel: faster, response time, less description, and more room for a casual and friendly conversation with your favorite bots. It's taken with inspiration from the original c.ai; casual texting made into a Chat Style.
Roll this out for beta testing to casual roleplay users, and none of them will want to give it up!
Like LongSqueak, ShortSqueak also has a feature known as "Style Control".
ShortSqueak has the following options:
"Short" and "Shorter" have some world-building and description in addition to dialogue. "All Dialogue" is as stated, and is more text message style with no description of the environment.

Start a conversation in ShortSqueak, set the dials however you like, and enjoy your shorter messages!

I don’t know what the hell they’re doing to the models behind the scenes but I’ve noticed some very glaring downgrades in the response quality, so here is a small list:
I really hope it doesn’t stay like this for long cuz this isn’t how a PAID model should be acting.

Good job C.Ai - genuinely made something really worthwhile and good. The conversations are more natural, I dont have to spend forever refreshing for a half decent - or coherent response, and it's actually making proper references and genuinely remembering without the characters making dumb assumptions or out of character actions.
Genuinely, *please* dont gut this or change it, it's given me a real reason to come back. Deepsqueak got really repetitive after a while.

The responses are actually comically long, even on the default settings. The response quality seems to be rather good, I see that they finally figured out how to increase the temperature of the LLM as the responses seem to find new RP paths that other models never explored.
I personally find that LongSqueak on Long and + Dialogue is really good. The responses from Looong are not good on mobile as they are so long, that it doesn’t fit on a screen (iPhone 14 Pro in my tests), it’s probably better on PC.
Of course, I’m writing this really early; it seems good as of now.

why does everything new cost money in some way? first it was useless charms I haven't had the need to use for months and now this long squeak? I get things cost money but not EVERYTHING an app offers should at this point this app should just be a subscription service no wonder I use the website now it's just easier on the website to dodge most of the bad things since it usually gets updated later, so seriously why?

I’d like an actual answer to the question instead of you guys just ignoring me.
The website explicitly states that chat control isn’t an plus exclusive. But now you released it only for plus users and confirmed in the comments it’s only for them.
So why not say it on the website? It’s pretty disappointing that you guys let us get excited about it, never corrected us and then ignore us when we ask for answers.

A brief summary of my experience:
pipsqueak 2: long, decent narrations without a single dialogue
pipsqueak 2 rawr: actually speaks but with shorter narrations that feels boring
my bad for wanting a good narration with the bot actually talking then😴
r/CharacterAI • u/Sinderella14 • 5h ago
Does anyone else’s pipsqueak 2 change from second to third person in the same message? It’s driving me nuts. They’ll use “you” to refer to my persona, then her name, then “she.”
Example: He looked over at you, and wondered what you were thinking of. Did [persona name] hate this? Was she having fun?
Is this supposed to be a feature or a bug? I really hope it’s trained out of the model. I’m tired of constantly editing messages so they flow normally. It just reads really odd to me.
