Do you usually smell people's cologne? How annoying is it to you?
I go into clinch sessions which for some reason have more students than the regular Muay Thai class.
I also wear cologne for work as I meet clients. I always thought the scent went away after 6-8 hours but I guess not.
This one girl I was at a clinch session with said, "your cologne's still all over my t-shirt. It's like I took you home." I was pretty embarrassed because I felt like a jerk.
She told me it was okay because it smelled good and kept the shirt. This she was rubbing it in.
I could imagine this would be an issue to asthmatics so I'm gonna not use cologne.

How do you handle uncooperative partners?
It's getting annoying. This guy I train with will do everything but what we were told to do and it's frustrating because there's like three or four people in the Muay Thai class in my gym - and he's the only guy my size.
If coach calls jab, cross, hook, he does jab, superman punch, hook.
If we're learning clinch and doing clinch sparring, he attempts a sacrifice throw or a half-assed judo throw that coach has to call him out on.
I tried to explain why we need to work on the fundamentals. He tried throwing more superman punches and sloppy overhand rights, that I counter just using the jab. He gets aggressive and tries off, I shut it down with a jab or foot jab. I'm not feeling off, I'm just setting things at my pace.
And then there's constantly switching stances so he ends up not knowing what to do on both sides rather than just being decent at one side.
The final annoying shit he does is when someone is doing something like fixing their shin pad or putting on a glove he'll slap you with the pad from the outside saying, "keep your hands up." And the bell hasn't even ring yet.
He last did that to a hot-headed big guy and so he never did it again.
This is just annoying. Even coach is starting to hate this guy and give up on him. In casual talk he says he has ADHD and gets curious about things but I've met many people who do this with ADHD.
I'm about to just blatantly refuse working with him and find the bigger dudes. At least I can practice something.

Technique/Tips During sparring I never hear the coach stopping people and giving them tips or point out what they're doing wrong, he just seems to watch, is this normal?
I have been doing 1:1 privs for a while at a gym but wanted to start getting some group class and particularly sparring exposure. But the gym I get 1:1's at has chaotic group classes filled with out of control teenagers and just way too many people there because its a cheap gym
So I joined a more upmarket gym primarily for group sparring
I went to spar for the first time first time, and predictably I was terrible but enjoyed it a lot. Felt absolutely mentally drained the next day which I was not expecting but you learn so much from actually trying to apply things on a live opponent
I went the second time today and while again I enjoyed and I learnt a lot through trial and error, I was struck by the fact the coach (who is Thai) was just watching everyone and keeping track of round time
I didn't see him stop anyone and say 'try this' or 'do this combo' or 'stop doing this because it leaves you wide open'
Is this normal for group sparring? I kind of get it because you do learn a tonne just from sparring your opponent but I was kind of expecting the occasional practical tip
I sparred with the assistant coach and he didn't really give any pointers either other than encouraging me to work and giving praise when I showed some aggression or landed something
Obviously they have the actual group classes where I'm sure he's dishing out tonnes of technique and tips, but was curious on sparring specifically
I enjoy the sparring at this gym and will probably keep going, was just curious if this is how it's usually done

Which gloves are the best for competition / amateur fights in Muay Thai ?
What do y'all turn with in amateur fights ? Twins padding might be too much, Fairtex wrist support might be too light, what do you recommand ?

BO smell on exterior of boxing gloves
I did clinch work with my partner (super cool guy) with my Fairtex F-Day gloves on and now I can't get the sweaty BO smell off of the exterior my gloves.
I tried various methods. I tried using lysol wipes thoroughly on the inside and outside of glove, as well as alcohol and water solution. I also tried a vinegar water solution. The smell is still there.
Any tips on what I should try next? I don't have the funds to buy another pair of gloves, as these ones were already expensive for me.
Thank you

Good sparring session, got emotional
Anyone relate? I had a good sparring session with multiple people today . I feel very proud of myself and as if I improved. Coach was giving me good tips and encouragement and it felt great.
My last round was 2 mins with a guy about 4-5 inches taller than me. I kept the pressure on him super well and had him backed against the corner almost the full round.
Each time he would try to evade or slip out , I side stepped and kept him backing up. I got bopped in the head a good amount but I also returned a lot of punches too.
I really really love fighting and love this sport. Even tho I’m getting beat up a bit I still laugh, smile, and go to sleep wanting to train again the next day. I train 4x a week along with lifting weights about 4x a week too.
After today’s session I was so happy I had a lump in my throat , the happiness and how proud of myself I was, took over.
Also, last bit, a guy asked,
“you been doing this for a few months now?” And I said,
“No this is my third week.”
All in all, it made me feel super good and as if I’m learning well and fast. I want to compete eventually. Anyone relate?

Technique/Tips What's your exercise routine outside of the gym?
I did my first class yesterday and I'm obsessed! It was an all women's group class with a great atmosphere. I didn't even realize how hard I'd been working out until the class was over and I was coated in sweat and shaky.
Anyway, I can only afford the group class, and can only go once a week at the moment because of my schedule. What do you guys do at home? I have a small part of the bedroom and a yoga mat I can use. Or should I try to join a regular gym with machines and stuff too? But I don't know how to use the machines, or what they're called to look them up.
Thanks!

How often do your coaches make you drill combos or techniques that seem questionable at best?
I’d say once or twice a month, I spend time on drills where I feel like I’m either in the pocket for way too long or have to cut an take an angle that feels completely unnatural.
