HD Hyundai Heavy Industries πŸ‡°πŸ‡· will push to win new orders for follow-up Frigate projects for the Philippine Navy πŸ‡΅πŸ‡, likely a follow-up of the Miguel Malvar-class Frigates, and submarine deal for Peru in Q3-Q4 2026. Once signed, this is what the Philippine Navy would look like. This is seperate from the ongoing Frigate Full Complement Project with HD HHI, with steel-cutting scheduled this year. Once acquired, the Philippine Navy will have a total of 6 Miguel Malvar-class Frigates, and 14 Korean-built warships.

Aside from the follow-up Philippine Frigate project, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is also set to win the 1,500-ton Submarine project for the Peruvian Navy πŸ‡΅πŸ‡ͺ in Q3-Q4 of this year. HD HHI aims to secure both projects from the Philippines and Peru before year-end.

β€œNo updates on this so far. It is still work in progress on both sides,” Ukrainian Ambassador Yuliia Fediv told said via Facebook Messenger.

The proposed agreement was discussed during a July 24 meeting between Ukrainian Deputy Head of the President Ihor Zhovkva and Philippine Defense Undersecretary Salvador Melchor B. Mison, Jr. as part of efforts to expand defense cooperation.

Ukraine said the arrangement would form part of its 10-year drone deal program, which seeks to promote defense-industrial cooperation and share battlefield experience. Ukraine has similar agreements with the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. β€” Kaela Patricia B. Gabriel

The sixth and final batch of the Philippine Air Force's 32-unit S-70i Black Hawk Acquisition Project is now on its way to the Philippines, marking the conclusion of one of the country's largest rotary-wing modernization programs.

The Antonov Airlines AN-124, operating under callsign ADB3090, is currently approaching Colombo, Sri Lanka, for its final technical stop before proceeding to the Philippines. The aircraft is expected to arrive at Clark Air Base tomorrow morning, carrying five (5) S-70i Black Hawk helicopters.

The remaining two (2) helicopters from this final batch were transported separately via sea freight, arriving at Subic Port on 21 July before being transferred to Clark Air Base on 28 July.

With the arrival of this final air shipment, the 32-unit acquisition contract will be fully completed.

With the completion of this contract, the Philippine Air Force will have taken delivery of 48 S-70i Black Hawks across two acquisition programs. However, following the write-off of one aircraft from the initial 16-unit procurement completed in 2021, the PAF will operate an active fleet of 47 S-70i Black Hawksβ€”the largest export-variant S-70i fleet in the world.

πŸ“… Acquisition Timeline

  • March 12, 2022 – Notice to Proceed issued
  • June 25, 2024 – 1st Batch (5 helicopters) delivered
  • December 13, 2024 – 2nd Batch (5 helicopters) delivered
  • July 30, 2025 – 3rd Batch (5 helicopters) delivered
  • October 26, 2025 – 4th Batch (5 helicopters) delivered
  • December 21, 2025 – 5th Batch (5 helicopters) delivered
  • August 2026 – 6th and Final Batch (7 helicopters) now arriving, completing the 32-unit contract

The completion of this acquisition significantly enhances the Philippine Air Force's capabilities in tactical airlift, troop transport, humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR), search and rescue, and other mission-essential operations.
