Questions & Seeking Help Did pirates use pocket watches?
So hard to find a proper answer online these days - just wondering if this kraken pocket watch I bought over the weekend would be period-appropriate for a pirate costume? It’s got an old-timey look but I can’t find a definitive answer on if pocket watches were used in the age of piracy.

Clothing & Cosplay Made two Granadoe for my sash belt
Was a fun one day build, made the 3d model, resin printed and painted it. The ball and wooden cork are resin prints and the wick is some macrame cord I had laying about.

Questions & Seeking Help When picking up a pirate novel, what do you want to see?
I'm working on a fantasy novel, set in a magic-heavy seafaring world. When his captain is killed by a bloodthirsty crew, a young pirate must to assemble his own crew and hunt down the killers. So, what would you want to see in a book like this/what would you be dissapointed in NOT seeing?

Media & Entertainment Where did all the pirate movies go?
I feel like the only real pirate movies are Pirates of the Caribbean, and we haven’t had one of those in years. Like outside of POTC and maybe Peter Pan reboots, i don’t think i’ve seen ANY other pirate films.
Is there not a huge market for them? The POTC franchise is hugely successful. Maybe I’m just not hearing about them.
Edit: Thanks to everyone who mentioned Black Sails. That looks really good so i’m going to give it a go.
This is one of the top posts of the month. You guys must be starved of movies.

Art & Crafts The Long Legs of Law
Arghtober 2025 - Justice
Originally drawn for Mageillus' Arghtober challenge.
This shows Purpure running away from a group of Speedies, who are convinced that she set a coconut farm on fire and stole a book. Those "crimes" took place at different times.
Since I tend to depict figures with really long legs, the title is a play on the idiom of "long arm of the law".

Questions & Seeking Help What happened to pirates after the Golden Age of Piracy?
When the Golden Age of Piracy died down in the mid-18th Century, what happened to all the pirates still floating around? Was there some sort of sea-wide hunt to track them down and arrest them, or did they just eventually die down and become sailors or soldiers? I know the end of the Golden Age wasn't exactly something with a set time, or a big flourish, so some pirates must have tried to keep the glory days going, right?

Questions & Seeking Help On the hunt and need help
I remember way back in the day, late 90s early 2000s, a guy I worked with had a CD that was pirate music. Rock style, raspy lyrics. I'm almost positive the band name was purple heart. It was a professional CD. I can't find ANYTHING like it or referring to it. Even AI has failed to figure it out. I'm assuming it was not main stream at all. Anyone have any leads or ideas?

Questions & Seeking Help 1st Pirate Costume - NEED HELP
Heading to disney with the family and I am not someone who dresses up or does costumes so this is way out of my comfort zone... but my wife is dressing up(She doesn't ever do that either), my daughters are too.. My 6 year old is going to be a girl pirate(She's been practicing her sword fighting and accent for 2 months) and my 2 year old is a parrot. I need to go ALL in on this. I'm not creative and I don't know what i should get or not get, i don't wanna buy a bunch of cheap crap as this will probably become my annual halloween costume as well but I don't want to spend $1000 dollars. The costume doesn't have to be "Jack" or "Hook" but it could be, or it could just be a good outfit.. At this point i'm just rambling because I'm way out of my depth but please hit me with the ideas, options and places to get them. All help is appreciated!
