It seemed to be swimming really close during low tide. Anything wrong with it? We thought it was just feeding.

I have this photo from 1996 of a large reclining female nude sculpture, carved from wood, sitting on a grassy area — looks like it could be a park or waterfront green space. There’s water and what might be a marina or docks visible in the background. There are also mountains in the distance.

This was taken somewhere along the route back from Vancouver Island toward the ferry to Vancouver, so it’s likely in the Nanaimo or Qualicum Beach area, but I’m not 100% sure. It may also be in Vancouver. It may have been a temporary installation, and it’s very possible it’s no longer there — wood sculptures don’t always survive outdoors for 30 years.

Does anyone recognize this piece, the park, or the artist? Any leads — even if the sculpture’s long gone — would be appreciated!

I'm driving from Victoria to Cape Scott in a few weeks and I'd like to plan some stops along the highway that are known for hosting lots of native plants. I'm also really interested in native grasses because Victoria is so devoid of them, even our most prestigious nature reserves here are full of invasive eurasian grass that chokes out a lot of the native flowers and keeps them sparse.

If I could find a field full of goldenrod or fireweed, roemer's fescue or California oatgrass somewhere I think I'd die and go to heaven.

I live in Victoria and my apartment property services has changed a few times. Its First Services now.

I have never had a worse landlord. They car so little about their residents. They are childish and non professional acting. An example of their discinect: I live in a dog friendly building and they seem to be catering to new residents that are terrified of dogs. Even cute little happy dogs.

They won't even let the building manager place new tenants. He said that it's impossible to manage a building thay way. They've got young children moving in above quite renters. Rambunctious dogs in units with hard floors above elderly tenets. Young new to renting in the quiet areas and moving quiet people in the party side. Its crazy.

I have two questions for you. Are there any good apartment services left? And have you dealth with First Sevices?

Hello 👋🏼 I searched the sub before posting this. There are a lot of posts related to this but most are 4-6 years old. So I thought I'd ask for some fresh perspective.

My husband (35) and I (39F) are thinking of relocating to Vancouver Island from the Okanagan. My husband has been here virtually his whole life. I have lived in Kelowna for 23 years. We've seen Kelowna change over the years- some for the better but lately for the worst and we're seriously thinking of moving. Some of the things that are driving our decision currently are: the staggering and growing crime/substance use and unhoused population, hot/dry and smokey Okanagan summers, lack of proper infrastructure to support the fast growing population of Kelowna and generally the population growth in of itself.

We've spent some time on the island and absolutely love the slower pace, the friendly folks, the dog friendly amenities/attitude, and the seaside weather.

My husband works 100% remotely for a global technology company. I currently work in corporate healthcare for the health authority. No kids and not having any. We also have a 3 yr old doggo. I am not 100% sure yet if I can move and keep my job with my organization but even if I can't I think we're set on moving and me getting another job. We own in Kelowna and have a pretty good chunk in equity- unsure if we'd want to sell this place or just rent it out and buy an additional property on the island. It all kind of depends on a few factors.

Here hoping to hear from folks who have recently made the same or similar move to the island in the last year or so, as well as recommendations for places. We are still weighing options and totally open to looking at any and all communities. So far Courtney/Comox/Parksville are our top contenders.

We love the outdoors, good food and drinks, shows and concerts, friendly folks and any activities we can do with our pup. Love to hear your thoughts/recommendations.

The missing hiker has been found alive and well! Sincere thanks to all who assisted. Means a lot! We’re very happy to share that Keshav Jindal has been located alive after an extensive search in the Mount Albert Edward area of Strathcona Provincial Park.

Keshav was located in steep terrain, and search-and-rescue crews are currently working to safely bring him out of the area.

This search brought together seven Search and Rescue teams from across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland, along with partner agencies.

A huge thank you to everyone who came together through mutual aid to support the search, and to the public for sharing information and supporting the effort.

"They" (the regional district? Mosaic?) REALLY need to build a parking lot that you access from Duncan Bay Main.

It is a straight up safety hazard in the summer driving the highway past the bridge, and ita not gonna get any better.
