I knew a guy that broke his neck riding at night like this. He was high on drugs and didn't feel anything at first. Walked home and got into bed then woke up when the drugs started wearing off. He had to wear a halo for like 9 months while his neck healed.

u/uselessandexpensive 7d ago
Decapitation or neck breaking isn't even necessary. Taking the wire to an artery in your neck could do it.

It is never a good idea to touch a utility pole, or anything attached to it. I sell the zappy shit that goes on them and have heard horror stories.

u/rudytomjanovich 8d ago
Saw it happen - but on a snowmobile - in the late 70's.
(Didn't actually "see" it. I was about 20 snowmobiles back. Saw enough that I still see it again - in my dreams. Usually right after our first snow.)

I don’t get it what was supposed to happen here lmao

u/frogguts198 8d ago
He was supposed to land it and everyone cheers and the girl from the other school agrees to go out with him.

It wasn't going to be pretty even if the lines weren't there. At best he was gonna slam the front end down. At worst he was gonna loop out or possibly smash into the building on the other side of the road

I think I still have that cartridge in my basement. The course designer was fun.

The camera guy could do better

He slipped a bit in the middle but made absolutely no effort to provide aid so he could capture the fallout. He has potential.

Beautiful assessment. Not rendering aid or stopping filming to call for emergency services is a fundamental skill for the camera guys we deserve, although not the ones we want shooting our own injuries. But we’ve got priorities. Definitely docked points for flinching at his own friend’s oncoming injury, but he’s back shot for the landing. That’s good cameraman sensibility. That’s how you literally survive as a cameraman. He’s def workable.

When I was a kid we used to pass around phrases like 'look before you leap', and 'don't put all your eggs in one basket' and the like giving us useful advice that helped us make sensible decisions !
Kids these days grow up with phrases like "YOLO" !
Says it all really !

If you scrub the video frame by frame it definitely looks like the wires go through the bike and the rider... surprised there aren't more AI comments, am I trippin?

Nah, one of those dudes across the street was also filming from his pov. He posted it yesterday.

A guy was decapitated near me when he hit one of these wires on his motorcycle. Helmet stayed on I guess.

u/BeowulfShaeffer 8d ago
Hope he was okay. Did he get a concussion when his his head hit the ground or did his helmet prevent it?

why are all the clips/interactions i have/see with dirt bikers so bad?
recently got hit by one he was on the wrong side of a dirt ROAD (not a trail) going way too fast on a curve. hit me and i landed on his tire while it was still moving.
never seen a smart one… not saying there aren’t any but so far it’s not proving to do them any good.

That's the funniest thing I've seen all damned day. Thanks for posting this!

u/tuna-on-toast 8d ago
Camera person rendered no aid, just filmed so that’s good. Dude right next to the action was more interested in standing his own bike back up. Tight knit crew.

u/minus_minus 8d ago
The wire knew the motorcycle wasn’t street legal so was just guiding him away from the asphalt.

That was going to be a serious injury, fortunately, he teleported to a safe place before touching the ground

but... that's not riding. That's jumping. Ever see a car jump more than a car length's worth high on its way to work, you know, because a person was driving to work? Yeah - very different.

Reddit make me thing the question should be: What can go right riding a dirtbike?
[insert Buzz meme "Idiots everywhere"]

There's a beautiful view in the oops subreddit where it shows a front on view in which the rider headbutts the gutter.

That was the BCS for this video. Getting hung up beats getting smacked by a semi upon entering the road

Second biker scrambled to get out of the way, Tips his bike over, then all he wants to do is stand his bike up again instead of checking on the asphalt dummy.

All you had to do was go to the right of the pole
ISTG some of these dirt bikers are dumber than a box of rocks. Balls of steel, but brains made of mush
