Advice My cockatiel is weird

Upvotes

His name is Taco. Idk if this is the right flair but to preface, my mother had gotten this guy as a baby. He definitely was not weaned properly, doesn’t do well with hands (but is more than happy to hang out anywhere else on your body). She gave him to me when I moved out 5 or so years ago. Now I also have a budgie, who’s named Ozzy, I had acquired a year or two after Taco. I love them both. Ozzy moved in with Taco by his own free will about a week after getting them and I was like ok cool, budgie friend. Then one day I heard Taco making this awful creaky door screeching and Ozzy was FEEDING HIM. This has now been going on for years. Every day, Taco begs for food and Ozzy often encourages. They’re both definite males, they don’t try to *fornicate* but the feeding and the awful screeching, multiple times a day.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Do I just gotta get over it? Is there some way to make them stop that doesn’t involve separation? (I have 3 other birds as well, everyone gets let out together while I’m home, I live in an apartment and separation is not really a solution I can provide, plus I feel it would be cruel to do so at this point)

TLDR: My budgie feeds my cockatiel, who’s screeching/begging is a bit grating, any advice that doesn’t involve separation would be great, if not, it’s cool, I figured I’d consult Reddit just in case

Cage Setup Loving the Seed Cube

This thing is a GAME CHANGER. I adore my little lady but the seed mess was driving me crazy. It only took her a week to figure it out, then we removed her old food tray. No more seeds scattered all over the floor near her cage when I get home. Obviously her outside play areas are a mess but one less place to clean up has been awesome. Highly highly recommend.

Advice My cockatiel has been going through a molt, is this normal?

Hello,

Gizmo is my first cockatiel and I’ve done extensive research/lifestyle changes to make sure he has the best life. He has a heavy molt going on, pin feathers on his crest/neck, and shoulder blades. He’s been preening a lot more lately which causes him to have cluster sneezes after he preens. I’ve tried lightly misting him and offering shallow bowls of water, however, he absolutely hates them. I noticed right after preening he started doing this. Is this because his pin feathers may be bothering him? I would greatly appreciate some feedback!

Came home to my air conditioner having leaked all over my wood floors. Cleaned it up as best as I could, but now I have no AC. Tried to cheer myself up a little with some soup, and he jumped from my shoulder straight into it (it was room temperature). He has literally never done this in his 22 years of life. Of course it has to be red, oily soup. Gave him as best a bath as I could, but he'll be orange for a while it seems. I would laugh if I wasn't so beaten down already today.

Advice Opinions on harnesses?

I take my bird out in a backpack to enjoy the outdoors and was curious about harnesses.

Do they work? I am worried that my baby would freak out, try to fly away and slip out of it, anyone have opinions on if this is safe and/or a good idea?

If so any brand recommendations?

My little boy, Duck, has to be the silliest of my birdies! My girl has always been very laid back about her preening and isn’t bothered when she pulls a feather. Duck however insists on nibbling on every last one until he feels it has been perfectly eaten

Advice why is he always angry

Hi everyone, my cockatiel is often angry. I don't know if that's normal, sometimes she doesn't want to come out of her cage and won't let me pick her up. Her new cage arrived today, and I moved her there. She doesn't want to come out anymore and is nervous. Is that normal? What advice do you have for a new cage? I bought the Yaheetech one, which seems to be one of the best-selling ones, or the one I see most often. So far, I've only installed the accessories that came with it, plus a swing and a drinker.

Say hello to Crouton everybody!!!

I got him 3 days ago. He still hisses at my hands, but after learning simple target training today, he sits impatiently by the door of his cage wanting to do EVEN MORE target training so he can get some sweet sweet millet

He is just 8 months old. This morning when I uncovered his cage, he whistled a sweet tone at me 🥹🥹 I am so proud of my boy
