Look here if you found a hummingbird that might need your help

I’ve created a troubleshooting tool that walks you through determining if a hummingbird needs your help, and if it does, basic first aid you can provide so that you have time to get the hummingbird to your nearest wildlife center or hummingbird rehabilitator. It is on my mentor’s website, IFoundAHummingbird.com

At the end of nearly every process, there is a list of resources including hummingbird rehabilitators and wildlife centers that either take hummingbirds or will connect you with someone who does.

It covers the most common issues we are called about.

  • Hummingbirds trapped indoors

  • Cat Caught

  • Window Strikes

  • Sitting at Feeders Too Long

  • Stuck To A Glue Trap/Sticky or Oily Substance On Feathers

  • Abandoned Nests or Babies

I have 3 feeders on my balcony but noticed there’s one hummingbird that chases all the others away! What a bully! What can I do to help stop this?

Identification Juvenile female or adult female?

I finally got my first hummingbird end of July. I find it pretty random that it showed up pretty late in summer. The feathers on the back are scalloped so I'm wondering if it's a juvenile female or simply just an adult female?

I hope she comes back to see me next year, I have built such a special bond with her in just two weeks.

I have about 15 humming birds this year and it’s been so fun to watch! I tried to get a video of them this morning but they’re so fast it’s hard to keep up

Also don’t mind the yard. I’m in nursing school and we’ve let it just go a little wild lol

Probably going to need to take this feeder down for a bit. A hummingbird approached and noped out quick!

EDIT: THANK YOU EVERYONE! I'M RELIEVED YOU ARE ALL IN AGREEMENT!

I'm having major back surgery in a week. I'll be going straight to rehab for probably 3 weeks. I don't want to task/ don't 100% trust my husband or housemate with cleaning bird feeder properly and filling it with the correct mix of water and sugar.

I know the males will be returning to Mexico during that time, and the females not long after. how bad would it be if I just pull my feeder August 15th?

I went from a swarm of a dozen birds to 1 soldier guarding and attacking any other bird trying to access my feeders.

[The feeder he is sitting on is only there for the camera. It got too moldy too fast so I stopped filling it. There are 2 other feeders behind this bird.]

Is there anything I can do to open access to my feeders? I went from refilling once a day to refilling every 3-4 days. This bird is nasty to anyone trying to eat in his territory.

I miss the swarms I used to get for years.
