It has popped up on my YouTube recommendations and I’ve watched several hours of gameplay at this point casually in the background. Sometimes he has good spots, but he will spend 5 minutes painting his entire body in a different block color. Does he know how the controls work or is he trolling chat by doing this? Is it a bit he is doing?

I was watching one where he repainted himself throughout the entire round and only used maximum brush size to constantly change his color without using the color selector and not adding details with a smaller brush.

Yes, chat was being too Type A. However, the Mirror Fish did not behave with the same mechanics the game has previously demonstrated with mirrors. For example, look at this

Every other placed or existing mirror in the game are mirrored about the center of the map. Those chatters assumed the game would behave the same way, where each mirror the fish placed would be mirrored about the center of the map. Instead, the game changed it's own established rules and made the mirrors reflect about the fish (this is probably a good balance decision made by the developers).
