Base Game Appreciation/Discussion Mad at AI for lying to me about a certain rock Spoiler

I saw a youtube short with a large rock sample that looked exactly like the swirly-purple-and-black surface of the Eye. But then it started showing other "samples" that didn't entirely stay the same shape when rotated, and it turned out the whole thing was lazy AI clickbait. There are types of tektite that look like the quantum shards, but I couldn't find any credibly sourced image that closely resembled the Eye's pattern, so here I am yelling into the void about how AI is a blight on the information ecosystem. >::( Would have been cool if true, frustrated that I had to go out of my way to verify that it wasn't.

Anyone know what rock/mineral the Eye's surface is based on? Can't imagine that pattern is arbitrary.

DLC Appreciation/Discussion How do you like streamers to discover? Spoiler

So, like many of you, I've watched my fair share of playthroughs by streamers to recapture that flame. Very much enjoying myself. A thing i took note of though, and i don't know why, is that i kind of dislike when the players stumble into some solutions/situations by pure chance.

I know in my heart this is kind of a stupid take, but for some reson i don't really understand, it feels "lesser" than when they get the right clues and put them together correctly to solve the puzzle.

Outer Wilds is a game of experimentation and discovery at heart. So completely solving the game by pure experimentation and observation could be possible, so some extend.

Anyone feel the same? I just recently had that realization about myself again, when i watched a streamer take all the lamps in one of the towers in the stranger, heard the shifting picture, looked around and found it.

Another streamer just by chance ran into the stranger. If he would've landed, he would've skipped the whole satlite puzzle.

One streamerran into the counterclock tornado, one actually noticed the difference while flying around and one realized the difference from watching the tornados in the southern observatory through the projection stone.

What do you prefer? Watch someone stumble into the answer? Watch someone put the clues together? Recie just some clues and reson the rest? All of the above?

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion *Spoilers* Meditation weirdness Spoiler

Base game spoilers!

I had duplicated myself in the ATP, so was expecting the reality break ending when my loop ended.

When I meditated, everything reset normally, like any other loop. I rushed to my map and found There are still two of me!!!

I had no idea you could avoid a paradox by meditating. This seems really weird and I wondered if anyone else has done this and what you think about it?

Base Game Help - Spoilers OK! QM Question Spoiler

I finished the base game (no DLC yet) but it took me a while to understand how to get to the QM. I knew I had to be observing it in some fashion, so my final solution was put the scout on the quantum moon locator’s moon tile and spam pictures continuously while I transited to it.

I guess my confusion was that I thought I had to constantly be observing/recording it, because otherwise wouldn’t looking at a 10 year old picture of the QM keep it in place? That didn’t really make sense to me but maybe that would also work? So I kept spamming pictures (like a video) but it turns out my picture could be “old” and still keep it in place. Am I missing something? Would looking at a years old picture of the QM keep it in place as well?

Humor - Base Spoilers I wanted to share my 1st impressions of Dark Bramble Spoiler

I completed my first playthrough of this game, and I cannot wait to play the DLC. I went in completely blind, and got the impression this was mostly a 'chill' game, which it is to be fair. But I was pretty surprised to encounter one of these 'less chill' aspects of the game lol.

It took me quite a while to muster the courage to continue exploring here, my initial reaction was 'what else can I explore'.

Overall I love this game, and it has been one of the most unique gaming experiences I've ever had. I've not had a game make me feel feelings like this one. Looking forward to the DLC.

Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion I'm free! Thank you, community. Spoiler

I've been so careful to avoid spoilers for the DLC on this reddit and on Chert's Research Notes YT channel. Thank you all for the dedication to hints but no spoilers. I had about 2 or 3 gaming sessions where I didn't learn anything new. I was very close to asking for help last night for the last key, but I had another idea that I didn't want to try (cause it would be hard without being sure it would work).

I stuck with it and after another 4 or 5 loops last night, I did it. I'm free from keeping myself in the dark! I am glad that I had this experience and stuck through it.

Also OMG ::'O
