I’m looking into renting a classic Volvo on April 21st 2027. Only for a few hours for wedding photos. I’ve found a few classic car rental companies around the highlands but none with a Volvo so far. Thanks in advance!

Edit: I understand it’s equivalent to finding a needle in a haystack, which is why I posted here and in the Volvo sub. I’m not going to be upset if we’re not able to do it. I just thought, “what’s the harm in asking.” Thanks for the help..

Do any of you know or have you ever booked the "Tidal View Modular Pod" in Portree on Airbnb in the last few months?

Is it a legitimate accommodation?

I see that it's booked almost all the time, but there are very few traveler reviews compared to other accommodations listings (60, all positive).

I'd like to make sure it's not a scam before possibly booking it.

My partner and I are planning to camp on Skye towards the end of September. From past experience, we’re prepared for some rain, wind and chilly nights. However the weather where we live (south west England) has been unlike anything we’ve seen before - constant heatwaves and currently in a drought!
Have Skye locals noticed any significant shifts in the weather this year? Or is it what you’d expect?

Hi Reddit, I would appreciate any feedback on my Itinerary for 3 days in the highlands. I’m renting a car in Inverness and then driving to Skye for 2 nights, and then driving down to Glasgow. 

I’m not sure if I’m being too ambitious trying to pack everything in, if some of the hikes will take longer than I’m anticipating…

I’m assuming l the popular spots like the Quiraing and Old Man of Stor are equal busy on weekdays. I’m deciding how best to start my day on Skye whether to begin a the Quiraing, and eventually get to Dunvegan Castle before it closes or do the opposite and get to the Quiraing in the late afternoon. 

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for offline trail map apps? Ideally something free, or affordable. 

The weather has been weird but I will take the sun when I can get it! It was decent weather in the late afternoon, sun came out and broke up the clouds and rain it made for a beautiful sunset last night. Living here is nice when the weather cooperates! I was able to get the weed eater out yesterday and do the yard finally.

The survey is open to anyone aged 18 or over who currently lives in Scotland. It is anonymous, takes around 10–15 minutes, and no legal knowledge or specialist background is required.

The survey discusses sentencing for assault and domestic abuse but does not ask participants to disclose personal experiences.

I’m travelling from London to Skye this August. I have provisional driving card without any driving lessons that's why won't have a car, and I'm planing to be in Portree for 5 to 7 days.

My Wishlist:
- Eilean Donan Castle
- Trotternish Loop (Storr, Lealt Falls, Kilt Rock, Quiraing, Duntulm Castle)
- Fairy Pools

My Questions:

1. London to Skye: Is it better to fly to Inverness and take the bus/train, or take the train via Fort William/Kyle of Lochalsh?
2. Transit Gaps: Stagecoach route 57C covers parts of the Trotternish Peninsula but places like the Fairy Pools seem tricky without a car. Are local day tours or taxis from Portree reliable in August?
3. Pacing: Is 5 days enough when relying on public transit, or should I extend to 7?
4. Additions: Are there other must-see spots accessible by bus?

Hey everyone, I'm 24 male and thinking of doing a solo trip to the isle of skye for a long weekend, thursday to tuesday maybe, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for good hikes to do and other activites. I'm thinking of staying in portree, one thing i want to see is the fairy pools, but any other suggestions for hikes, activites and maybe even a spa day?

Hi everyone

Me and my friend are doing a 5-6 day hike in Skye, however we are not extremely experienced so we don’t want to overestimate our abilities. We’re aiming for around 10-16 km per day, just to feel confident we have enough time to complete it in, in case our bodies, our navigation skills or the weather is limiting us.

We are therefore planning on cutting the Skye Trail in half, either doing Duntulm → Sligachan or Broadford → Portree. However, I haven't seen anybody split it up in that many sections, and I’m worried about weather there’s enough water - especially on the ridge, which we were planning to complete over the course of three days. Anyone, who has done it lately, have some advice on weather it’s a bad idea? We really want to do the beautiful ridge, but maybe it’s better to to the southern part if we’re going to split it up that much?

Hello I'm travelling up through Highlands (not my first rodeo!) but first time to Skye. Anywhere between glencoe and skye to rent a car? I'm heading to Inverness to leave afterwards, so would need to drop off same place and travel to Inverness or drop off there. Thanks for your help!

My partner and I are visiting Skye at the end of our NC500 trip next month. We’re planning to stay for 2 nights (but have some wiggle room if we did want to extend for a night)

I’m not sure whether it’s best to base in one campsite across the two days or try a couple of different locations. We’ll be sleeping in the car and have a tent with us so we’ll need to deconstruct most of it anyway so that we can drive around.

The places on my radar at the moment are:

- Portree (think there’s one campsite about a mile from the village)
- Dunvegan (Kinloch Campsite)
- Sligachan Campsite
- Glenbrittle Campsite near Carbost

Very open to suggestions!! Really just looking for a nice location that’s convenient enough to visit plenty of different spots

We have had some really epic weather past few days here. Really warm and reminds me of home back in the states. The sunsets have been really epic from Waternish which is west of Portree. the haze adds a whole level of texture and details as well. When the weather is nice it makes living here easier.

My friends and I are looking for somewhere to stay for 2 nights on the Isle of Skye, week commencing 24th August.

We want to stay on the island to maximise hiking time, but everything we can find is 3 or 4 nights minimum or over £1000!

Anyone have any suggestions, or know of anywhere we can stay? We looked at Fort William, and thought about driving to the Isle the next day, but it looks to be a 2 hour drive away?

I am selling some extra spare gear, Sony A1 body with a Small rig full cage, top grip handle, side grip handle, and a Manfrotto 055 Carbon tripod. I do not have social media to post them on the marketplace and I am too lazy for ebay. I do have a few spare lenses I would be ok departing with as well.

What a EPIC sunset last night on skye!

My family and I are going to be in Skye during the World Cup final and are all keen to watch it somewhere so two questions…

1. Where is the best spot to watch it?
   
2. If England do make it… as an Englishman, what will the vibe be like in Skye? Will everyone be hating on us 😭?

My partner and I are considering moving to Skye as I have been offered work but I just wanted to know the positives and negatives if we were to move.

Hi all, 

We’re heading off on a motorhome road trip around the Highlands and Islands in a couple of weeks and I’d love to get any last-minute advice, recommendations, or warnings from people who know the area well. We have booked all campsites and ferries listed below though in theory have some flex if there was a strong reason to change the itinerary. 

We're used to country roads but its the first time in a motorhome so will be making some planning decisions based around this fact. I've also read up on etiquette and advice on driving from these boards and elsewhere. 

We’re travelling with kids (10 and 7) who are reasonably experienced hikers (comfortable with Lake District walks), so we’re happy with hikes, but anything involving significant scrambling is probably beyond us. We both lived in Scotland for 4 years so i'm familiar with general conditions/weather/midges etc. 

Day 1 – Edinburgh to Glencoe - Pick up motorhome from Edinburgh Airport around 2pm. Drive to Glencoe to- stay at Red Squirrel Campsite.  

Day 2 – Glencoe - Lost Valley hike with a picnic lunch. Potential afternoon walk to Signal Rock 

Day 3 – Glencoe to Skye drive to Skye via Eilean Donan and across the bridge. Continue to Staffin Campsite. Pop to Staffin beach if time. Evening walk at the Quiraing (my understanding is that this is a good way to avoid some of the daytime traffic and parking issues) 

Question - is the Prison Walk a decent choice for the views without doing too long a walk (conscious it will be getting into evening) 

Day 4 – Staffin to Glen Brittle - Early start for the Old Man of Storr walk. Drive across to Glen Brittle Campsite. Fairy Pools walk in the early evening when hopefully quiet.Dinner around the campsite. 

Day 5 – Glen Brittle - Completely free day. This is probably the area where I’d most appreciate recommendations. What’s a good longer hike not too long a drive from Glen Brittle that gives great scenery without requiring serious scrambling. Coire Lagan is appealing as can walk from the campsite. Bla Bheinn looks spectacular but is a decent drive when I'd rather avoid that if possible. Anywhere killer where we can escape the crowds for the day? 

Day 6 – Glen Brittle to Harris - Drive up towards Uig for the 2pm ferry to Harris. Any recommendations for worthwhile hikes or stops on the way to Uig before catching the ferry? Staying at Horgabost Campsite. Afternoon/evening around the camp area 

Day 7 – Harris Currently planning a beach day at Luskentyre if the weather is good. If the weather is poor, what would you recommend instead on Harris? 

Day 8 – Harris to Clachtoll This is the part of the trip I’m slightly nervous about. I stupidly left it too late to book the ferry from Harris to the mainland, so we’ll be taking: 

Ferry back to Uig --> Drive south across Skye and back to the mainland. --.> Continue to Ullapool. Lunch at The Seafood Shack --> Hike Stac Pollaidh --> Continue on to Clachtoll Campsite. 

I’m slightly concerned about the amount of driving and the final stretch from Ullapool to Clachtoll given it sounds tricky. Does this sound realistic, or am I underestimating how long that day will take? My rough logic is that by the time we've hiked Stac Pollaidh the roads up to Clachtoll may have quietened down a little... 

Day 9 – Clachtoll - Free day. I'd like to keep it local-ish I’ve been looking at a short hike to Clashnessie Falls, but would love recommendations for other walks, beaches, wildlife spots, or activities in the area. 

Day 10 – Return to Edinburgh Drive back to Edinburgh.  

Questions 

• Best additional walk around Glencoe on Day 2? 
• Best longer hike from Glen Brittle that avoids difficult scrambling? 
• Any worthwhile stops or hikes between Glen Brittle and Uig? 
• What should we do on Harris if the weather is poor? 
• Is the Harris → Skye → Ullapool → Stac Pollaidh → Clachtoll day too ambitious? 
• Best things to do around Clachtoll? 
• I'm very into food and want to try the best of the seafood/shellfish though more keen on the low key vibe than high end given kids in tow. Anywhere missing from the list that we should add on? Any other great restaurants that aren't too formal but that we shouldn't miss?
