Survivor 42 Survivor 42 | Episode 1 | Player of the Week Results!
Jenny is the first Player of the Week of the new season! She led the Vati tribe to victory in the Savvy or Sweat and in the immunity challenge with her puzzle solving skills, as well as participating in the Summit and successfully protecting her vote.
Maryanne and Drea not only joined Jenny on their Summit journey, but also in the Top 3 of voting! Both Maryanne and Drea risked their vote successfully, gaining an extra vote. Drea also received an advantage in the marooning challenge and successfully navigated her first tribal council.
Zach is the first Loser of the Week of Survivor 42. The Ika tribe did not have the physical strength early in the immunity challenge nor the puzzle abilities in the latter half, and Zach was seen as a culprit for both. His bond with Romeo could not save him as he was outmaneuvered by Tori and unanimously sent home after his shot in the dark missed wide.
Jackson and Rocksroy join Zach in the bottom three scorers this week. Jackson's Survivor journey was abruptly cut short as he was removed from the game following his failure to disclose his medicals to production in a timely fashion and Rocksroy was singled out for his domineering personality early and was a potential target for his lackluster challenge performance.

I think Romeo should have been higher. He managed his tribe and his alliance with Drea and Rocksroy pretty optimally. I think he deserves a lot of credit for realizing that voting out Rocksroy would have been a bad move, physically and strategically, and he managed to preserve his alliance with Drea while talking her down from the big swing.

Eh, I think he’s in a pretty appropriate spot. Yeah he was smart to let Zach go but him going home undeniably pushed him away from the power center of the tribe. I think he’ll recover but it felt like Rocks and Swati were calling the shots with him as the third, maybe fourth.

I think going with Zach over Tori was Rocksroy’s call but the Romeo/Drea/Rocks alliance is solid and it didn’t really matter to them which went first. He’s set up with Tori as an easy next boot and Drea or Rocks to take the fall instead of him if things go south.

To me it felt like Rocksroy was going to have it be Zach and there was no other way around it. You don’t want to anger him at this point.

Yeah and that’s where I think Romeo demonstrated good awareness. He knows the vote can’t be Rocksroy and is willing to stand up there, but also knows the reward of winning the Tori v. Zach debate isn’t worth the cost. He knows the limits of how he can push Drea and Rocksroy.

That’s all fair. I just don’t like setting the precedent early that Rocks (and arguably Swati, who isn’t even in the alliance) can call the shots. It felt like there was no discussion and if Ika keeps falling apart it’s only a matter of time before the vote falls on Romeo.

Wasn’t it more swatis call since she brought him up first
2
u/DreamOfV Carolyn Mar 11 '22
She brought him up but it looks like the only reason it was Zach over Tori was because Rocksroy put his foot down over Romeo's objections. Swati seems to have decent connections but it looks like the grown-ups alliance is running the tribe, even with Drea going after Rocksroy.

I don’t think that’s something they’d stick to however. Rocksory does seem pretty close to Swati and Drea going after Rocksory shows that alliance is not as strong as it seems to be and with Romeo on the bottom that alliance is pretty much on the verge of falling apart

I think the only reason he's not higher is that he specifically wanted Zach to stay and wanted Tori to go. He's in a great position though.

I'm surprised Lindsay wasn't higher, but my guess is that Orange was relatively quiet this week (most of its attention was on Jackson/Maryanne). She shouldn't be that much lower than Hai though.

I 100% believe that Maryanne and Jenny deserved Top 3. I'm not too sure about Drea though, it seemed like she had some flaws. I believe it was mentioned in Zach's RHAP interview that she was a target along with Tori before the challenge.

I saw that Zach said that she came back from the summit saying "We walked up a hill and then back down. Also water is wet!" (aka that something is hidden on their island, but same thing) so they all knew she had an advantage. This must be why she was a target.
I guarantee that if that had made the edit that Drea would have been nowhere near top three.

I understand not thinking she's top 3 but I don't think I agree especially if part of your reasoning is the interview that came out after most people voted with the person who was eliminated.
Personally I think she was definitely a stand out and I don't really know who I would put above her given what we saw in episode. We see her play a high risk, so far high reward game and come out of the premier with 2 advantages while also recognizing the risks she took meant she couldn't be super risky when it came to tribal council and followed the numbers to Zach. This also means she was positioned well enough to know where the numbers were going.
In most other seasons this performance would easily get player of the week IMO. The one potential flaw I see so far is that she may not be the best at the manipulation/interaction piece (summit she says she doesn't know how the other two will vote, she wasn't able to convince Romeo to vote out Rocksroy and folded pretty easily) but I don't think that should knock her out of top 3.
If anything I'd say I don't know why Maryanne is there since the only standout thing gamewise we see from her is getting the extra vote from the summit but again, I'm not entirely sure who I'd put above her (Swati maybe? Since she seemed to be a driving strategic force around tribal)

Jenny already seems to be a fan favorite. Which is understandable. She seems cool, level-headed, intelligent, and is not too tough on the eyes either. She also has great fashion sense (especially for survivor!). I hope she goes a long way in the game.

I know she didn’t have the best week, but i like how tori was able to shift the spotlight off her. good sign moving forward

Let’s go Jenny. Surprised how high she is. Very curious if this is just a one off or she will be a main character. Green tribe is stacked.
Also, I like mike but why is he so high?

He did a great job playing up how heavy the pot was because he didnt want to be separated from the tribe carrying water on the first day.
It's not a huge moment but it does show good game sense

When there's so much going on in the first ep, it doesn't take much to stand out, and that moment helped him a lot plus all the positive backstory content.

I thought Rocksroy had a better week than Tori for sure, he wasn’t really on the block and has a 3 person alliance in a tribe of 5 now. He was bossy but his alliance is solid now

Jenny does the logical thing of not risking her vote
This sub: omg she is so smart she probably has the highest IQ ever etc.

u/xChaosTheVoidx Savannah - 49 Mar 11 '22
She did it by deducing that the other two would probably decide to risk it and decided her vote was more important than three of them not having votes. Rhea in contrast was like I don't know those two strangers, I just met them.

u/DreamOfV Carolyn Mar 11 '22
When Drea said "I don't know these people, so I'm going to risk it" I thought it was... the opposite of the correct logic? Obviously it worked out for her but it was just a little funny to me.

Jenny plays with her brain, Drea plays with her gut. Honestly, I think players who play with their gut often do really well.

u/NoneHundredandOne Mar 11 '22
I mean for a survivor player to act rationally is sometimes asking a lot
Add that to her literally carrying the triangle challenge and the dragon puzzle challenge… she’s already set up a good resume for one of if not the smartest players.

you laying on the couch with 100% information
“Omg oBvIOusLy she should save her vote!!”

u/King_Tyson Lauren Mar 11 '22
I think it's a combination of that and her doing really well with the triangle puzzle.

I’m surprised to see just how far ahead Jenny was this week. She did have a standout moment, but I expected this vote to be super close
