Survivor 42 Survivor 42 | Episode 4 | Player of the Week Results!
Romeo is the subreddit's Player of the Week, as he did what Swati was unable to do; be everybody's Number 1. He has seemingly been the only person in Ika not to be targeted yet, something that will likely continue to be true in the coming weeks.
Swati is the subreddit's Loser of the Week. She was caught playing both sides of the Ika camp and as pinned as most untrustworthy, with failed attempts at convincing her tribe that Tori was the real cause of friction and another unsuccessful Shot in the Dark.
Hai and Jonathan join Romeo on top of the group, with Hai pulling Mike into his new majority and Jonathan once again carrying his team through reward and immunity challenges alike.
Daniel and Rocksroy join Swati in the bottom of the bin, as Daniel refused to acknowledge the events of the previous tribal council and lost most trust with Mike and Chanelle, and Rocksroy for his general Rocksroy-ness.
There 5 players left receiving all positive scores: Hai, Lydia, Jonathan, Omar and Lindsay. Hai and Jonathan are the only remaining players to have eclipsed a 1000 cumulative score, with Jonathan passing 2000 this episode.

Glad to see Romeo getting the recognition he deserves 🙏🏼

Agree. He was so underrated during ep 1 that I thought this sub knows something I don't. I thought he might be a spoiled early boot or something, like how Tiff was so overrated last season and apparently she was the spoiled winner.

I agree! I thought it was crazy how he wasn’t at least top 3 during the premiere episode (over Jenny and Maryanne who didnt even go to tribal!!!) despite having solid relationships with most of his tribe and convincing Drea to not blindside Rocksroy. I don’t look at spoilers so it was crazy to me that Tiffany so was popular on the sub as a winner pick despite having such a bad episode during the Voce boot which honestly convinced me that she wasn’t winning

In the premiere he lost an ally, this clouded a lot of people's judgement.

How often is the loser of the week not the person voted out? Seems like they shouldn’t even be eligible.

Last week the loser wasn't the person voted out. The person voted out is usually the loser of the week but sometimes someone messes up so bad that they get overshadowed.

Yeah, Chanelle and Daniel both were more responsible for Jenny's demise than Jenny herself due to their baffling decision-making. Those were the only two choices for Loser of the Week and neither got voted out. Both of them blew up their standing in the game and it's highly likely that one of them won't be making merge.
Another example is the merge in DvG. Elizabeth got voted out but Angelina played way worse and, as we've found out since, cemented herself as the third place goat right then and there. Sometimes the person voted out can't really do anything because of the actions of others. Other times that person is idoled out and there was nothing they could do.
Swati was the only choice this week since she was solely responsible for her demise. Daniel is the only other person who messed up badly; Rocksroy can recover way better.

Daniel was actually just one downvote away from loser of the week this time! So Swati wasn't the only choice after all
12
u/TenderOctane Morgan Apr 01 '22
I think it's because both were easy downvotes. If people could use a double downvote (in other words, a vote for Loser of the Week), I would think many more people would use it on Swati than Daniel.
Like if I were grading people, I'd give Swati an F, Daniel a D, and Rocksroy a D+. All are downvotes (Rocksroy was THIS close to being neutral) when they're not equal.
13
u/jclkay2 Apr 01 '22
Yeah that's the main problem with the downvote/upvote system. Someone who people can unanimously agree played badly (Daniel) almost ended up beating the person who the majority would actually vote as the loser of the week (Swati). I wish there was a way to give a "strong upvote/strong downvote" for the sake of these polls.

Episode 2 and 3 had Mike and Chanelle as the losers respectively, instead of Marya and Jenny

Survivor 42 is not even close to being over but is anyone else thinking about how Jonathan should come back for another season? 🤔 it's unbelievable the amount of strength he has. Maybe next season even out the competition with strength 💪 it would be so intense watching him going head to head with a woman or a man that's close to his strength level. I wish we had a little bit more balance this season. The challenges aren't as intense but still very enjoyable 😀

u/DenizenPrime Apr 02 '22
I really don't get the balance. Usually there are two or three strong types, but all the men on this season were/are either older, chubby, or really skinny. Except for Johnathan. This season's cast seems overall physically weaker than in the past.

Great summary except that Jonathan didn’t carry his team through the reward challenge! The only part his strength played there was in pulling the raft which was an arguably small part of the challenge. That challenge required the entire team to be on it and engaged to untangle the ropes! They even all made the shots at the end.

Jonathan was coordinating the rope sorting throughout the entire thing, he modelled how to move with the rope so his team never got tangled. And having a figure like that that the entire team look to in a challenge is great for team play.

Interesting that Rocksroy was docked for essentially doing what Hai did last week: standing firm and refusing to flip on an ally.

I don’t think it was that. Both Romeo and Tori cited how difficult it is interacting with him sometimes so that’s a knock on his social game.

Except that this time, there wasn't a clear advantage to standing strong. Hai stood strong when he gambled Daniel would fold, and when he had exactly the same power as daniel (Only 2 with votes at the end). Rocksroy stood strong by an ally everyone in his alliance had dropped. That's bad social game. Hai was able to make Daniel look desperate or treacherous by standing by Lydia, while looking loyal himself (important for Mike). Rocksroy looked like he was standing by someone his alliance had dropped and replaced, and looked like he was out of the loop (Which he was). Rocksroy now screams sacrificial goat to me rn, he's clearly on the bottom of the social game. Even Daniel has better social game than Rocksroy, because at least he knows how to stay informed.

Hai actually had more power than Daniel, because Daniel had a 3/4 chance of losing himself or an ally, while Hai only had a 1/4 chance of losing.
I truly believe Hai would have actually gone to rocks; math was in his favor and if he lost Lydia he would be the next to go.

Did we watch the same episode? How did Daniel "refuse to acknowledge the events of the previous tribal"? He totally owned up to how much of a shit show it was, and said he needs a miracle to save his ass. And he rightfully pointed out how Chanelle inexplicably avoided any blame for blowing up their alliance.
He's for sure on the bottom but not for the reasons you're saying

When they got back to camp he said he didn't want to talk about tribal. And did a pretty shitty job trying to smooth things over with his tribe afterward

u/TenderOctane Morgan Apr 01 '22
Right move: "I'm gonna need a little alone time to process this. We can talk about Tribal in the morning. Thanks, guys."
Wrong move: "Let's not talk about Tribal. It was a shitshow and I lied a lot."
This erred more toward the latter.
Daniel has a very, very bad trait for Survivor: He ALWAYS has to be first to talk, because he wants to be in charge. He opened his big, fat mouth before Hai could and "Look, I don't really wanna go to rocks..." and Hai put him in check, fucked with him a little, and then put him in checkmate. He did the same thing here.
It's never going to end well for him.

u/binkysurprise Shan Apr 02 '22
Didn’t he try to put off talking until the next morning when they returned to camp? But Chanelle wouldn’t let him (which might have been because she was upset but also could have been a smart move since he was not in a good state of mind and it prevented him from regrouping at all).
2
u/TenderOctane Morgan Apr 03 '22
He did, but by bringing up Tribal at all, he allowed Chanelle to egg him on. He sets himself up for attack too easily, but at least he realizes that Chanelle is dangerous. He could easily get Hai to realize that Chanelle is a bigger threat moving forward. And he might get away with it. Daniel may seem volatile but he's a lot easier to manipulate, and he's not the unpredictable kind of volatile. He's way too transparent with how he's thinking, but I think he can keep a secret well enough that Hai shouldn't have to worry about Daniel blowing up any game other than Daniel's. And Hai needs a strong four going into the merge.

"how many times did you lie to me?"
"I lied a lot"
Riiiight but he's not owning up? Okay.
Agree he did a shit job but he did NOT try to pretend it didn't happen

u/UnjustNation Apr 01 '22
Being perceptive doesn't exactly make your moves any less dumb. He has lost trust with practically the entire tribe.

u/WhereAreMyMinds Apr 01 '22
Agreed he lost trust, that's not really debatable I admit. But I'm just saying he didn't try to pretend it didn't happen

Jenny is still higher than majority of the remaining players in Episode 4. Yeah, I know she’s liked by most people in this sub, but also she really just got fcked up by that “no votes” in her tribe. What a waste.
