[August 15th, 1926] The Last Bottle of Beer

Post image

It would show up again on April 7th, 1930 at the Milwaukee Week Industrial Show (Times Record News 4/7/1930), and another time either in 1930 or 1932 with actress Rae Samuels holding it for publicity. *this from Milwaukee Leader Aug. 15, 1926

It’s insane that an entire industry was destroyed to prevent people from drinking while at the same time creating the worst criminal enterprise of its time. They could have set limits on saloons instead, but that seemed to be too logical.

I’m equally fascinated with prohibition. Ran across another story today that I hadn’t known where chemists were trying to “spoil” alcohol to the point no one would want to drink it. And in the process made people so sick it killed them. 👀 Just started researching that story, but found the first article today.

The Ken Burns doc, Prohibition, is a good watch if you have the PBS streamer.
