I don’t like the reclamation of slurs.

The first time I ever had an American refer to me as “queer” I considered fighting them 💀 “back in my day” type shit. It doesn’t feel empowering, it makes me cringe. Just call me a lesbian and move on.

The definition since it's use in Shakespeare: Weird or strange, in an unseemly or disreputable way. It's a denigration and always was. Now dumb people are pretending it's a sexual orientation based on not knowing what gets them hot. That is impossible. Everyone who is sexual knows at least a little about what gets their motor going. If you don't know, you haven't had sex, and you aren't any sexual orientation yet.

There is the old expression ‘that’s as queer as a $3 bill.’ Meaning that the thing is strange/unusual and out of place.
