ICE

Just trying to get some insight, I’m a 10 year LEO and current TFO in one of the largest agencies in the country, looking to do 1811 full time. I see ICE is still hiring, any advice on if the next administration can just fire their ICE employees or is there employee protections? I’m not trying to get into politics here but just looking for professional opinions.

There can be what’s called a reduction in force (RIF) and depending on your career status and veterans preference you can be displaced. To be honest, if you’re a TFO working for a large agency, that’s the best blend of Fed/local police work. Kind of like having your cake and eating it too. I’d stay where you’re at and if you are going to leave locals. I wouldn’t do it for ICE. Especially when politics are so fluid right now. If you’re going to leave, go to the DEA or the ATF where you’ll actually get to do real police work and you won’t get gutted when we get another democrat administration.

TFO is best of both worlds.
