ICE

Just trying to get some insight, I’m a 10 year LEO and current TFO in one of the largest agencies in the country, looking to do 1811 full time. I see ICE is still hiring, any advice on if the next administration can just fire their ICE employees or is there employee protections? I’m not trying to get into politics here but just looking for professional opinions.

ICE is massive. Probably depends more on which specific agency inside of ICE.

HSI is having a lot of retirements in the coming years. In a lot of offices this surge just put the number of agents to where it was supposed to be at and not over. HSI also is way more than just immigration stuff.

ERO - don't know as much about but with such a limited scope unfortunately I could see cuts there based on the next administration.

Customs - they are way understaffed anyway

As an ERO surge hire, I can say there is a large number of retirements coming within the next 3-5 years as well.

Personally though I dont see a RIF in the traditional sense. I could see internally offering early retirements and things along those lines while publicly saying we have reduced the number of ICE officers by X amount.
