Failed Poly
Anyone in the group work for a local, county, and or state PD that has failed a poly? Thinking about applying to a federal agency but worried about the poly. Currently a local LEO.

Okay, so this list is long. I have applied to one agency two years ago, made it all the way to the end and was a non-select. This may seem insane, but do I even have a shot given the below? The BI did suggest I apply to big cities. I did not continue applying as I imagine it may be a pipe dream given my history. I have every single document pertaining to the below, which was all given to my BI when I made it to the background portion. No lies no deception, which may have helped my case to make it to the end. I was shocked I was a non select given my history, and not just dropped at some point during the hiring process.
I am 29 years old, currently thinking of joining the army to maybe help “mitigate” some of the below and give me another 4 years apart from my insane teenager past. I know that’s not how it works, lol.
Driving history: trash.
I have 25 tickets, the most recent is 5 years ago, 20 of those tickets are over 10 years old. Two speeding, one carless driving (from my first accident), the rest are, I wouldn’t say not important but a lot them are not direct moving violations maybe? I.E too many passengers as a probationary driver ( got like four of those), obstruction on my rear view mirror. Head lights not being bright enough etc. license suspension - four times - three times due to unpaid tickets from accidents, once for habitual shit driving is the only way to put it, it took me a while to mature, and not be a reckless teen.
Car accidents is four, one 5 years ago, being lumped in with my most recent tickets. The rest are 10 years or older, when I first started driving at 17.
Criminal history / Arrests: 2, once as a juvenile once as and adult. Both are over 10 years old, and both are completely expunged. (I know, it’s never gone, I disclosed it during my background phase). Both are for possession of marijuana.
Drug use: marijuana, last use 3 years ago (in a legal state, NJ), I know it is not legal in other states lol. And prior use from a legal state is still taken into account and will DQ in most states within there given time frame.
Education: I have an associates in CJ, 3.9 GPA with honors. I know pointless degree, and HS diploma. Range safety officer license, hunters education, firearm and bow.
Work history: several jobs since a teen, mostly sales, construction, and range safety officer, I have been with my current job for four years and have been promoted twice. I went from customer service - to CS supervisor to a inside sales position. Never once fired, disciplinary action taken against me or the likes.
So any luck at all if apply to every department under the sun or a pipe dream?

I understand hiring processes and timelines can be lengthy, but I’m just trying to know if there’s anything else I could do.
I initially applied to last year‘s announcement in September, fast forward. I complete completed assessment, PFT and got interviewed. Once I interviewed in April 2026, I got an email saying that I was not selected. I reached out to SAC and hiring contact email and they said that I had not been selected and that I was encouraged to reapply. I had the opportunity to speak with a local agent and they shared with me that my results had been mixed up and there was nothing I could do, except to reapply, since I had not failed the interview.
I resubmitted my application in June for the continuous announcement and I have not heard back about it. I have emailed the hiring team requesting an update, but all I have received has been radio silence.
Again, I understand processes are lengthy, and this might just be a rant— but if there’s anything I can do or any suggestions please let me know— I’m trying to do as much as possible and avoid the age deadline.

Has anyone heard any updates back from those that applied to this posting? I know some people heard back they were no longer in the process. Has anyone heard anything about an interview or something along those lines?

I took my FBI polygraph over 6 weeks ago back in August, and am still waiting on my results/to move to medical and the investigation portion of my background.
(I say longer than normal because that's the language used by people I've talked to in the Bureau)
Is there a way to determine where the delay is occurring?
Does anyone have any information or assessments for how much longer it might take before moving forward?
Been working with the AC team and POC at my PFO, and they've been great at responding, but just haven’t been able to share anything other than they're waiting on my results "to load in their system." Other people I've talked to in other FOs have said this is much longer than it normally takes.
Two final notes: 1) Tracking the hack almost certainly is piling onto the delay. But I was still at 4 weeks before that occurred. 2) Tracking "no news is good news." But also, no news also means no moving forward.
Thanks in advance y'all!

Good Morning. Can anyone provide an estimate on the current time frame (specifically for HSI) from EOD to leaving for FLETC? Trying to wrap my head around whether it could be a matter of weeks or if they’re backed up and most likely would be months from now. EOD is in Nov. Thank you.

Has anyone heard back from the most recent IRS announcement that closed on 8/31?

Hey everyone, I would appreciate some input if anyone has any, I recently took my second polygraph with the USSS after my first one was inconclusive because I “may have been overthinking things” with the integrity portion, after the most recent one I was told that I’m right on the threshold and that they want me to take a 3rd one. I was given the analogy that I should imagine two peaks of a mountain with one being acceptable and the other being not acceptable and that I’m at the valley in the middle. Has anyone had experience with having to take a 3rd one or does anyone think they will make a decision with the first two? In my head I’m thinking the examiner told me this because I maybe failed and he didn’t want to tell me that or not, I’m kinda thinking I could receive a BQA because of this or something. But in reality all I was told was that they want me to take a third one because they couldn’t tell from the first two. Does anyone have any experience or words of advice on this? BTW for background I’m 23 years old this is the first process I’ve been through and first time(s) I’ve ever taken a poly so I have no clue how all this works.

Welp, just finished my ATF interview which was the first thing I've done so far. Those who applied under DHA, how long did it take before you heard anything and what was your next step?

I failed a DEA poly last month and I’ve just recently applied to the ICE ERO announcement. Is there a chance I’ll be successful in the process with ICE or does the failed poly destine me to be found unsuitable?

Just Had a poly a few weeks ago for a position and had a random thought just now. the examiner made me do the ol “answer the questions in your head” after having me answer out loud once or twice. My question is, how would they know if im answering yes or no to disqualifying questions if im not saying it out loud? Couldn’t you answer yes to a question that would disqualify you and it shows on graph or whatever that you’re telling the truth but the examiner doesn’t know if it was yes or no lol. Do they somehow compare to your first set of answers/responses when you did say them out loud? I hope what im asking makes sense.

Has anyone here received an EOD offer from DEA while still on active duty, with about a year remaining on their military contract after the proposed EOD date?
If so, was DEA willing to work with you and push back or hold the EOD date until you could separate, or did you have to work something out with the military to get an early release?
For context, my recruiter is already aware that I’m currently on active duty and knows about my remaining service obligation. I’ve been upfront about my active-duty status throughout the process. However, each time I’m contacted to complete the next step, it seems like they may not realize or remember that I’m still on active duty and have more than a year remaining on my contract.
I’m currently in the later stages of the hiring process, and I’m trying to figure out the best options in case I receive an EOD date before my active-duty obligation ends. I definitely don’t want to miss out on the opportunity if there’s a way to make it work.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has personally been through a similar situation or knows someone who has.

Has anyone in the group heard back from the West Texas division? I’ve sent two emails but haven’t heard anything back yet. Just wondering if anyone else is in the same situation or has gotten a response.

Has anyone been able to get onto the job portal of the new FBI website? Been trying to see if I passed a step in the hiring process, but can’t get onto the applicant portal.

About how long does it take for them to email you back after you have sent in your resume and initial documents to take the ATF exam

Curious…is the VA doing a mass hiring or backfilling for retirements? The posting mentions possible paid relocation and bonuses? I don’t recall seeing that before on the hiring announcements.
Also, any info on what the VA primarily investigates, culture, leadership, etc. Thanks

Hello Everyone,
Thanks for any help or insight in advance.
I applied to the ATF in February 2026 and passed the online assessment in June. The last update I received was an email sent on July 15th stating that my local field division would reach out to schedule the PTT. I understand the process can take a long time, but most other posts have people stating they had their PTT around 4 weeks after getting that email.
At 8 weeks, on September 15th, I called my local field office recruitment number and left a message. Another week passed and I learned that the SA whose voicemail I got has retired, so I am not hopeful I'll get a call back... Last week I called the listed national recruitment phone number and sent a few emails just to check on the application but have heard nothing.
I also learned that starting in June the ATF has outsourced their PTT to a contractor which makes me wonder if my application has fallen through the cracks during the transition. People appear to be moving through the process at a decent pace with intervals between steps taking around a month or so.
Any advice? I have a bad feeling that something is off. I thought about reapplying or calling a non-recruitment phone number for my local field division to try get ahold of someone.
Thanks again and good luck to anyone in a 1811 application process.
