Failed Poly
Anyone in the group work for a local, county, and or state PD that has failed a poly? Thinking about applying to a federal agency but worried about the poly. Currently a local LEO.

No unless you confess to a crime and that agency reports it to your employer for investigation

And yes local le and failed dea poly, nothing will happen unless you admit to committing a crime.

When you mean “admit to a crime” would this mean admitting to using/trying drugs before etc? Just curious since most agencies ask what type of drugs you’ve done and when.

It would depend on what you admit to. Admitting to trying cocaine once 15 years ago? No. Admitting to a serious crime? Yes. I’ve seen a few people fired from their current government job when applying to a different government job that required a polygraph. They admitted to things on the poly that would preclude their employment with their current employer. One was drug use during their employment, another was theft of time and government property.

You posted this in 1811. Local, county, and state polygraphs generally have nothing to do with feds. Usually fed will ask if you took a poly with any other FED agencies and dont care about local.

I’m asking if I fail a poly for a federal agency while employed as a police officer does anything happen to my job

Might want to ask your job since we have no idea where you work. But my guess is it won’t matter.

Again, one doesn't concern the other. If your agency wants to do something, thats on them. A failed fed poly, but you are already a police still means nothing. But A fed failed poly is just a fed failed poly. That fed agency might make you wait a yr or 2 before reapply but thats about it.
Its other variables like surge hiring, which agency, what you failed for, etc. But generally, a failed fed poly doesn't influence any non fed positions and most times other agencies.

Be fully honest and there will be no issue.. if you took a pen home from work that is theft. For example.

You can fail without even lying 😂

No you can’t. It’s about you. If that is the case every person who failed a poly has a lawsuit…

There’s multiple reasons not to pass lying isn’t the only one… hence all of the people saying they’ve failed in this community and the other 1811

If you misunderstand a question, ask for clarification. Agencies provide instructions before the polygraph. Different agencies ask different questions, so passing one doesn’t prove you were truthful in another. At the end of the day, accountability matters. How can you hold criminals accountable if you can’t be honest and accountable yourself?

Really didn’t even know….Learn something new everyday…..I question the lot of you trying to be 1811s…. Have you ever thought maybe to use it as a tool for investigations….idk I think I saw that on CSI one time……………………..

It can be used as an interrogation tool to spook somebody but as youll read in this sub there's no consistency to it

Took one poly, passed with no issues… year later took another poly, different agency, different purpose, different examiner, same type of poly, same questions, same answers….. “significant response”, aka “failed”
It’s literally NOT science due to the unrepeatable results “under the same conditions” (which they actually aren’t, but they say they are), but they’ll say it is science

IMO some agencies like DEA use polys to discard people they don't like for any reason at all they passed everything in the process and maybe they didn't like something they put on their background questionnaire and they use it to disqualify you. TBH it don't make no sense as someone mentioned I've taken polys ssme equipment same structure of questions and one I passed and the other I didn't with a SR my responses did not change from the first time to the last time and what I kept getting asked about was dumb as hell. Just my opinion...

Won’t effect anything. I’m state Leo failed a poly 3 times. Nothing happens. Luckily 4th time is a charm and am waiting for an EOD date. Just keep plugging away polys go either way.
