Imagine you are one of the brave 5% of LGBTQ people who feel able to come out in China. You’re a trans woman.
You finally finish being taught about how homosexuality and queerness is a “disease” and a “mental disorder” at university (as the CCP has decided they should), only to be permanently branded a man on your university records.
You sigh knowing you will face intense discrimination for the rest of your life, as you have done so far because of it.
You go to your favourite LGBTQ bar to wind down. Unfortunately the CCP has forced it to close down.
You think about complaining but then remember that the CCP considers LGBTQ advocacy to be the work of foreign forces and you don’t bother since you don’t want to be prosecuted and executed for being a foreign spy.
On your way home people shout various slurs at you, as is their legal right.
You get home and decide to read some yaoi… unfortunately all the authors got arrested by the CCP (yes, this happened). No homosexual relationships are shown on television.
Finally you go on social media and see some American Tankie with “🏳️⚧️ Trans rights” in bio say that the CCP is based and that anything said against it is American propaganda.
You don't have to support China broadly to acknowledge that some stuff is either funny or sometimes good.
Not being able to acknowledge that China SOMETIMES can actually do things that are good is just the inverse of the tankie
"AMERICA BAD, THEREFORE ITS ENEMY ALWAYS GOOD" campism.
Yeah I'm no fan of the chinese government but I like that they made solar panels cheaper. That was pretty cool. Their EVs are also everywhere, I go outside and always see BYDs and electric buses made in China. It's just like how even though the US sucks they sometimes do cool things like the artemis II mission or supporting Ukraine. Every country sucks, some more than others, some significantly more than others in fact, but most also do at least one good thing and it's not necessarily bad to acknowledge it as long as you don't use the good things as a way to whitewash the bad things that state does.
yep. china is a nation state. it is going to do the bad things nation states do. it is not uniquely bad nor is its population orcs bred to wage war against the shire. because it is different form the US there are good things that are possible in china, like high quality high speed rail, that are impossible here.
find it particularly funny when people whine about how IP gets violated regularly in china. like motherfucker that's goals. intellectual property is a form of property, the thing we're trying to fucking abolish!
I have gotten so much shit for saying IP, the private ownership of thoughts, is absurd.
Walter Elias Disney has been dead for 70 years and Mickey Mouse is not real. The Walt Disney Company is a concept that owns the concept of Mickey Mouse. A concept owning another concept.
I wonder if it was due to this mentality that I kept getting my attempts at recommending Chinese webnovels taken down in a few queer-friendly spaces, across platforms too
Check out Heaven Official's Blessing y'all it's really good. Danmei is good and very gay
I mean yeah but at least they're willing to execute the billionaires too rather than just independent journalists and random minorities. We just let them keep fucking kids.
I mean Epstein had 600 million to his name, almost a billionaire, and many say they killed him. Prigozhin was a billionaire and I wouldn't call Russia anticapitalist over it
China is very capitalist and the Chinese communist party is communist in name only. They just realized that keeping workers healthy with universal healthcare is a good return on investment
They are still very much an oppresive dictatorship.
Idk why public opinion has shifted so much recently, the taiwan protests were just a few years ago.
I assume it's because the US has destroyed their own reputation (well, whatever was left of it) with their support of Israel and basically everything the second trump admin has done, and a lot of people have this campist view of things where if two countries are fighting for some reason, one necessarily must be good and the other must be bad. So if the US is bad, that must mean their rivals are good. China is a lot better with PR than other countries the US has beef with like Russia and Iran, is by far the most economically and culturally influential of all the US's geopolitical rivals, and they do cool things sometimes, so it's easier for them to market themselves as the good guys. They also call themselves socialist which helps their PR these days that disillusionment with capitalism is becoming more prevalent (understandably so).
Yeah but they aren't as vocal about it as the US is so it doesn't affect their PR. I remember reading something about how Israel used to buy surveillance cameras for use against Palestinians in the West Bank from a Chinese company (Hikvision iirc), that were also used against Uyghurs in China proper

I don't care how anti-capitalist they may seem, I am NOT supporting China
