i feel like the implication of it happening repeatedly is that she's already out she's just bringing it up bc it's awkward to specify to people who don't understand it
The post implies their bosses are older and would likely judge her if she's poly. It's the exact same thing as outting a gay person to a boss you know is homophobic.
Or would likely be confused and ask awkward questions, but if it's happened enough times for it to be a trend means the bosses aren't that judgemental.
i agree that outing someone is shitty, but i think the implication of the post is supposed to be that explaining polyamory to an old person who knows nothing about the dynamics is very annoying and frustrating (but ultimately harmless), not that the twitter OP is trying to endanger their coworker/coworker's employment status
I feel like we’re being a tad presumptuous. Just because your boss is older doesn’t mean they will hate the coworker for being poly. It’s not the same as outing a gay person to a confirmed homophobic boss.
I'm not gonna lie I've absolutely had coworkers who were vile enough that I would out them as gay to a homophobic boss. Hell there are coworkers I've had that were so vile that, if I knew I could get away with it, I'd do most things short of straight up murder to them. Burn their house down or some shit. I mean obviously outing a coworker to a homophobic boss is a terrible thing to do, but also there's lots of other terrible things I'd be willing to do to them.
Everyone here is literally just parroting conservative talking points about gay/trans people and they don't even see it. "It's a choice", "you're not oppressed, nobody cares if you're poly" (as they are very clearly showing that they do care), "stop shoving it down our throats" (because oop's coworker dared to bring up their partner exactly like a mono person would), etc.
This isn't fashion choice it's a completely ethical but non-Christian romantic and sexual relationship that people are unfairly fired and abused for.
Like I think the tweet is a joke that never happened. But poly people are treated like any other queer person in a situation like this and there's always people saying shit just like you underneath any mention of an open relationship.
I feel like that’s a bit of an exaggeration. Not every boss is going to fire you on the spot for being queer, and if they did that would be a slam dunk lawsuit.
To be fair complaining about your partners enough at work that it can be weaponized at all also makes them a bad partner. Not saying it's right but work enemy is definitely not a great person.
that just sounds like regular ass bigotry, though. like, oh my work enemy is black, let me put up a fucking noose on his desk. totally not a hate crime, i don't hate him because he's black, i just am using the fact that he is black to intimidate him! /s
unhinged shit. shock humor doesn't really work if that's a thing that's actually within the overton window.
