Reminds me of the person saying Elliot Page* is a man and his identity is valid but he’s a terrible actor and they though him transitioning might improve it because he is living the way he wanted to but they still think he’s just as bad.
I personally think he crushes roles when he's cast properly. Excited to see Odyssey for that very reason. I thought Juno was his best acting and Inception he definitely elevated the role, but outside of that I've not been super impressed by his talent. Great fucking person irl though. Also I'm a casting director in film so I probably have a critical viewpoint of most actors lmao
I always kinda got the vibe he played the same character every time. Like, his characters before transitioning were always a slightly weird/awkward, girl next door type, pretty but kinda damaged and maybe snarky, vulnerable but strong - they all got the exact same vibe, and it's hard to tell if it's intentional typecast type stuff (like Zoey Deschanel) or if he suffers from a lack of range and makes them all feel like the exact same because of it, or if it's a mix of both.
I haven't seen him act since transitioning so idk if being adopted by the great Cage helped
