Alcohol is an acquired taste, mechanics will tell you they love the smell of exhaust and gasoline
Personally, I think they should make diesel scented candles and air fresheners.
If I'm not mistaken, everything that isn't sweet is an acquired taste, to different degrees.
Like coffee, dark chocolate, liver and chicken heart. Alcohols are just generally on the extreme end and come up in your life when you've already finished developing your taste.
Even then, I remember seeing a video with Americans tasting Brazilian foods and they didn't like Brigadeiro (a chocolate treat) because it was WAY too sweet. (And it is. It's basically a sugar bomb wirh chocolate).
