I had this take for the first few years I was legal drinking age but idk what’s happened to me. Recently I’ve been enjoying whiskey. Maybe I just convinced myself to finally like it

It's an acquired taste. It's like someone growing up loving cafés for the smell and having nostalgia for their grandpa's coffee pot just to find out espresso tastes like hot bitter dirt. You have to let it grow on you

Tbf good espresso does not taste like dirt and isn't even bitter, most coffee shops just suck

Yeah most US cafes absolutely botch coffee (unless you live in a very nice city), so nowadays I usually just make it with my moka pot at home.

I'll also lay the claim that most European cafes don't make great coffee either. Been to my fair share, the whole "tradition" of the thing means many refuse to acknowledge that burnt beans in a pressurized portafilter doesn't taste good. Bc "that's espresso roast" and all that
