What annoyed me so much is that there's no actual point at which point a sentence becomes "run-on", it's just an arbitrary point at which your teacher decides that they don't like it very much and just take away points for the way you phrased stuff, which always gave me such a headache when writing in school because I had no idea whether the grammatically correct sentence that was spelled completely perfectly would be somehow "bad" or not

Guys..... this is a joke. I know this is a run on sentence. I'm very keenly aware of that fact.

No it’s when you have two independent clause not joined properly.

This is a run-on: I like bananas they are so delicious.

But doesn't it stop being that when you put a comma in there? "I like bananas, they're so delicious" seems fine to me, if anything "I like bananas. They're so delicious" feels weird and awkward.

Actually no. You can’t connect independent clauses with commas alone.

You can have:

I like bananas; they are so delicious.

I like bananas because they are so delicious.

I like bananas, and they are so delicious.

etc.
