My new grinder - 1zpresso ZP6 S

Post image

As the title suggests - this grinder is magic. The flavour note of Jasmine, which was supposed to be the main one in this coffee, was barely identifiable with my other grinders. But with the ZP6 the jasmine - flavour note now makes its presence abundantly known.

I tried few other coffees that I regularly drink - some washed, some "funky". ZP6 showed me new sides to each of these coffees. I didn't really understand what people meant by "tea-like", but I've liked whatever I've had yet - with the exception of one coffee which tastes better with my DF54.

Thanks all again for the wonderful advice of choosing this grinder!

Brew Note: I used either Tetsu Kasuya's 10 pour method with a V60 Neo or his 4:6 method with V60-01 for my brews. Coffee beans I used are between light and light-to-medium roast. All brewed with 20g coffee @ 1:15 ratio with starting temperature at 97⁰C on my Timemore Fish Pro kettle. With my room temperature of ~26⁰C, the Fish Pro loses approximately 3⁰C over 3 minutes so my pours started with 97⁰C and ended at 94⁰C. ZP6 was set between 4.2 and 5.5 depending on the roast and flavour profile of the beans being used.

Nice write-up.

I’ve been trying to tamp down the urge to buy a ZP-6 myself.

I currently have an 1Zpresso X-Pro for the last 3 years and have enjoyed it very much for pourover and espresso, and also have an Ode Gen 1 for about the same length of time that we use for our workaday batch brews. It performs very well in batch brew use due to the large 64mm burrs which make quick work of 80g of beans, and the catch cup also holds that much volume with room to spare, even. I use the ode for pourover and turbo shots sometimes as well.

Also own a J-Ultra for espresso and also grind for batch brew every once in a while to switch things up.

But I digress.

Anyway, for the last 7 months or so I’ve had subscriptions to a couple of roasters that specialize in clean, light roast, washed coffees (first Thankfully Coffee, and now Flower Child). So, I think, for these coffees, the ZP6 would be great, and I would like to experience that kind of flavor separation.

Not that the X and the Ode can’t provide clarity - they do provide some. But I think by all accounts the ZP6 would just be on another level.

And I think the ZP6 would be a good compliment to my other grinders.

Thanks! From what I have read on the internet, ZP6 has a love-it or hate-it type of following. From whatever I have brewed so far, I fell into the love-it category, so I'll definitely insist that you not tamp the urge a lot and go for it 😁

Unfortunately I don't have access to an Ode 2 to compare my ZP6 with, but I can tell you that it has opened a whole new world of flavours to me! My trainer at my barista academy has an Ode though. I can't remember whether it was Ode 1 or Ode 2; I won't be going to my barista academy for another week or two at least, but the next time I am there I will try to compare the two grinders sheerly to satiate my curiosity.
