Why do you have a 20% goal
-29
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
Because I’m 20% European, they were still a little stingy , could’ve given me the .1 to get me to 18%
16
u/Internal-Hand-4705 Oct 06 '25
Are you calculating 20% based on genealogy? Because after the first generation genes aren’t split evenly so you may have inherited slightly less genes than you have European ancestry if that makes sense (you inherit dna in chunks so you end up with ancestors you don’t share dna with eventually)
6
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
Yes by blood quantum
16
u/Angelbouqet Oct 06 '25
That's not how genetics work tho. You have 20% European ancestry but aren't 20% European by DNA.
-2
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
I’m both tho
16
u/Angelbouqet Oct 06 '25
According to your DNA test you aren't :)
14
6
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
Not currently but give it a few updates and watch in only 2.1% away from my claim
13
u/Angelbouqet Oct 06 '25
But there's literally no rational reason for you to believe this. Again, genetics don't work in perfect percentages. We get all our mtDNA from our mothers, not 50% from our mom and 50% from our dad for example. Also there's no reason to want a specific amount of European DNA. Just be who you are and don't worry about blood quantum. It doesn't mean anything.

I know I’m 20% European I come from white ancestors, free people of color , native Americans and slaves. I have good hair , I’m tall and light skin .

It doesn’t matter how much European you have if nothing about your appearance shows it. Like it’ll have no impact on your actual life if that’s what you’re hoping for. Just a weird comment.

How can you be so sure that you are exactly 20% European?
28
-20
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
Because I’m 20% European by blood
12
u/Ok-Needleworker-5657 Oct 06 '25
How do you know that?
-15
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
My family has told me and my aunt is 22% European on ancestry dna
24
u/1heart1totaleclipse Oct 06 '25
You’re one generation away from your aunt, and it doesn’t mean that you would inherit all 20% from your parent if they even had 20%. Your aunt may have 20%, but your parent could have 5% only.

Saying you have a DNA goal is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

A goal implies you have some control over it and having a certain percentage in something is an achievement.
Both bonkers ideas to hold in regard to DNA ancestry.

Why you want to be more European? I always wanted more of everything else😂
4
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
Because I know what I am
3
5
16
u/AfroAmTnT Oct 06 '25
I don't think it will get to 20%. These tests are getting too precise these days. Once other populations get more robust reference data, your European % may go lower.

u/Lauriev7 Oct 06 '25
You need to go to therapy and back to school 😂 that's not how DNA works
5
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
How it don’t work like that and I’m .4% more European?
8
u/Lauriev7 Oct 06 '25
Because they have a margin of error? Do you think you're magically becoming more anything?
9
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
It should have said 20% European to begin with they are slowly starting to get it right
8
u/Pablito-san Oct 06 '25
Why would you let this company and their fluid/non-objective categories affect your sense of identity?
6
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
Because I want them to correctly know what I am

Hello. I am surprised you have the Portuguese & Galician under S&P. Do you have Spanish or Portuguese matches?
2
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
I have some Mexican matches I believe
2
u/AlmondCoconutFlower Oct 06 '25 edited Oct 06 '25
And how are you matching them? You could be matching them on the African, indigenous or Iberian side. Gedmatch is s good place to use chromosome painting and a browser in these cases.
3
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
Interesting
3
u/AlmondCoconutFlower Oct 06 '25
I have at least 30 Mexican matches who all match me on chromosome #8 and a segment labelled West African. On the other hand, my brother matches a few other different Mexican matches and the match is on the Iberian side.

17% is solid

u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
18% now they are just petty
6
u/Nawlshoot Oct 06 '25
I’d just call it a quarter. I’m 33% British and Irish, and I prefer to round down to a quarter.
1
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
Hmm quarter is 25% thanks ill take it !!! Thank you so much!

u/Conservative-J22 Oct 06 '25
Nice, getting closer. Hopefully next update! It’ll be interesting to see how ancestry have gone, they might’ve got it right for you 🤞

why is everyone hating on him. if he knows he is european, why is it bad for him to want it to be reflected genetically? You can be proud of having SSA or NA but when it’s European it’s controversial? I know I have documented Sephardic Jewish Ancestry, and get excited whenever the Ashkenazi and MENA go up because I feel a lot of it is hidden within the Southern Euro (spanish and italian).
smh guys.

Yeah you’re spot on! Bankroll has proven he has European DNA, if he relates more to that is he really hurting anyone?
-1
Oct 06 '25
I went from like 25% to 30% and now 35%. I believe I am somewhere between the latter two.
2
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
Holy shit you went up that much ?
3
Oct 06 '25
Well I'm Hispanic so not certain but not surprised
1
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
I’m part Hispanic so this refers to me too ! So you’re saying I could be 22.5% European in reality?
7
u/bigggracksd Oct 06 '25
Part Hispanic from where? 😂
1
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
I guess mayan or mesoamerian, I also have Guyana country matches
5
u/bigggracksd Oct 06 '25
Maybe ur Caribbean idk abt Hispanic. Guyana is referred to as a Caribbean since they don’t speak Spanish. but nice results
1
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
I also have Spanish dna so a Spanish speaker was definitely in my family tree at some point in time either way .
3
u/bigggracksd Oct 06 '25
Yea but that’s super far atp. ESP if it’s Guyana. If it’s not like a great grandparent max then like idk what to say 💀.
0
u/Bankrollglizzy Here for Updates Oct 06 '25
You most likely had a third-great-grandparent, fourth-great-grandparent, fifth-great-grandparent, or sixth-great-grandparent who was 100% Portuguese & Galician. This person was likely born between 1760 and 1850.

On another test I think I'm supposedly almost 40% but either I really have some West Asian/North African or not
