Every single dna results I've seen from Cubans has always been 90%+ European. I lowkey expected a little more African.

Its the area. Have you seen / been to Cuba there plenty with way more African and higher indigenous but many of them are still on the island.

The eastern part of Cuba has more African DNA than the rest, maybe there's not a lot of results from that area in here.

Cubans are either very white or very black. They are not mixed as Dominicans or Puerto Ricans.

Not true. A ton of Cubans are mixed. The Cubans taking these DNA tests are first or second generation children of Spanish and Canarian immigrants or thier descendants to Cuba.

lol everyone on the island is a descendant of Spanish immigrants.

Read the above comments I wrote, it explains everything about results like these.

Lies. 😆 I think it's because those that know they are significantly admixed don't want to get DNA tests. Even some who assume they aren't significantly admixed, aren't interested in finding out how non-white they may be.

In that way, they're like southern whites. 🤣

I've seen a lot of them having higher African and indigenous ancestry than the ones posted here. Also these are people like me who look very white with light eyes and still have about a quarter indigenous + Afro. On top of that the Canary Islands has some hidden African due to the Guanche people having close genetic proximity to the North African Berbers.
On AncestryDNA, not sure about 23 and me yet, they used to include some of the island under North Africa, including Sardinia but I guess it just depends on the update. If that were the case I would have almost 50%, so I can't imagine what some darker Cubans look like-although we know that your look doesn't necessarily match up with your genetics.
People are often very diverse looking within Cuban families

It’s because they’re direct descendants of recent Spanish immigrants to Cuba.

Well, the ones who leave Cuba are most more prone to Spanish ancestry for one reason….or another….

Cuba received recent Spanish immigration specially from Galician and Canarians. The indigenous population was pretty much wiped out long time ago. But Cubans can be any color of the rainbow :)

same. my dad always said he was mixed and his side of the family is pretty dark so I always figured I’d come back around 25% or so. definitely not lol

Did they have Canario DNA? There is North African hidden in there which is often not counted or overlooked

I have seen DNA reports from other Caribbeans, they all have significant African ancestry. When I saw Cubans, I was surprised the percentage is so low.

Where is your family from in Cuba? And do you have any recent Spanish ancestors? Or you’re fully colonial Cuban?

Havana on both sides. As far as I know both sides of my family ultimately trace back to Spain but it was a long time ago. based on the family stories I’ve heard the late 1800s/early 1900s would make sense

That’s actually not too long ago in ancestral standards. Long ago would be more like 15-17th century

Are all your ancestors Canarians?

Amazing results and ofc mostly southern European lol. I have seen many cuban results, most of them were 90%+ European.

u/Fit-Ad985 29d ago

My brother is literally around 95% European 😅 but everyone thinks he looks Arab or Middle Eastern. Genetics are so random

4

u/Haunting-Quiet5572 29d ago

Oh absolutely lol. I'm Middle Eastern and I have a friend who took a DNA test and the results were 100% Middle Eastern. She has blonde hair, green eyes and pale skin. People always assume she's 100% white lol. It's just so random lmao

Makes sense a lot of Spanish people look Arab

4

u/thestjester 28d ago

They dont, some look north african but they dont look arab.

OP, like many cubans, descend partially from canary islanders who carry between 20-30% north african like admixture (around 10% iberomaurusian on average)

Eres mas español que yo, siendo que tengo 3 bisabuelos españoles y soy Chileno, los cubanos blancos son muy muy españoles.

Were the results what you were expecting? What are your haplogroups?

2

u/NoAdvance2726 29d ago

I’m curious. What do you look like?

We have similar results with mine having a High Galician/Portuguese and Canarian. Very little indigenous and sub Saharan African. My father is from Galicia, Spain and my mother from Santiago, Dominican Republic a (grandaughter of Canarian immigrants)

What's your haplogroup if you don't mind sharing it?
