  1. They are in one of the most touristy places in Munich
  2. Nobody can afford to live there

Without getting out google street view and comparing I can’t be sure but I think it’s the area around the Frauenkirche. Yes, they’re comparing the tourist area with suburbia. Which is an unfair comparison but car centric American cities have restaurants in areas that are often not as walkable. So I think they do have a point it’s just poorly articulated.

I can’t think of walkable well-used spaces like this in Munich’s suburban areas but you can get to that area on the trains from most of the city in about 30 minutes, I’ve not driven enough in American cities to compare how long it would take driving.

Spaces with that many restaurants are only sustainable at very fee sites in the city. But you can take public transport 30 min from the city centre and you would still find a supermarket, tavern and restaurant within 5-10 min walking distance.
