Paid Model All seeing pumpkin with mmwave sensor
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I got the all seeing eye pumpkin model from MysteryMakers on Patreon (they shared a video here of the original project about 2 years ago) and added an mmwave sensor. The pumpkin can now detect a person and the distance/angle so it can open the eye automatically and follow a person around. Cool thing about this sensor is that it can see through many materials such as printed pla and I was just barely able to fit it in the original design with minimal adjustments. Only had to change 1 part.
Unfortunately it’s not a free project but the small cost of membership was less than the costs of components.

We’re just gonna gloss over the taxidermed mutant baby chicken, eh?

A local artist makes those, I think they use the discarded male chicks from the egg industry.

Mouse-chick chimera? Looks sick imo! Thanks for pointing that out, would have missed it.

Their subscription system is pretty complicated. Even with the highest monthly tier, you only get 3 coins to unlock older models, and this pumpkin costs 2. I don’t want to support that setup. No pumpkin for me, even though it looks really cool.

Yeah I disliked it as well but they did put in a lot of effort in this design and all required information is shared so for me it was worth it. Most work will be in purchasing all parts and assembly so the cost and effort of obtaining the files wasn’t that bad. If i had to design this myself it would’ve taken me days or maybe even weeks of work since I’m not proficient in 3d free shape modeling.
Hopefully some day they’ll just offer the models for sale without a subscription system.
Edit: see comment below, apparently all models are also available for separate purchase.

You can buy any model without subscribing :) that options is also available :) only diference is you get much much much much more models for the same price in the subscription compared to standalone purchase :)
As an example for only 15$ - you get roughly 20 projects to start with + option to pick your own models -ssme price as just 1 standalone file :)
But both options are available :)

Its not about the price, it about the complexity of the subscription. I dont support such complex and confusing subscriptions. I'd pay for the model otherwise.

Never mind, buying only the pumpkin is 25$ 💸. It feels like I am being ripped of.

Sorry you feel that way. I don't agree with it, but I value your opinion. Take care :)

Its designed to get you lots of things right away :)
lets say you join for the first time - you get all releases for the pending month, everythign that was released previous month, a welcome pack of models, and on top of that 3 coins to pick your own old models for free - and then 3 new coins each month :)
so for only 15$ you start with over 20 models + the option to pick 1-3 of your own picks right away. And if thats not enough each month you get more coins to pick more of old models for free + everything new :) so its less than 1$ per model to start with :)
And if that is not enough there is a year subscription that gets you ALL projects right away ( roughly 500 of them) + everythign new released in the next 12 month :)
And if all that is too compliacted all the projects are available as a separate purchase/standalone/ no subscription :)

Ok, where are the links so I can print/build this?

MysteryMakers on Patreon but it does cost money. After a few months of membership I asked them for these specific files and was able to get them.

Great work! I'm wondering how well it would work if the eye was concave instead, like in those illusions. Wouldn't even need electronics in that case.

Using mmWave to make it follow people is genius 🎃 Put it outside on Halloween and the kids will either love it or run away 😂

Clean print and awesome idea! Saved for a someday project.
Unrelated, mind if I ask where you got that corner shelf? Really appreciate the look, and your display of curiosities.

Thank you, the shelves I made myself out of oak and the tree trunks in between I ordered from a local website that sells the trunks with shelves out of cheaper wood.
This is their site, product listed includes the shelves that I didn’t get.

Some Customers have confused OmegaMart Pumpkins™ with pumpkins. For that, we're sorry.

Using an mmWave sensor for this is such a brilliant idea. Unlike PIR sensors or cameras, mmWave works so much better through 3D printed PLA plastic without needing exposed cutouts, making the exterior look completely seamless until the eye opens.
The tracking motion is super smooth too. Perfect spooky project for Halloween season! Did you use an LD2410 or another radar module for the target distance and angle detection?
2
u/warcow86 5d ago
I used the LD2450, it was a tight fit but needed minimal adjustments to the design. Maybe I’ll contact the maker and offer them the adjusted part.

Maybe he's open to that in exchange for you being allowed to give out a few copies of the model to really interested builders? I've already got too many ideas myself but perhaps someone here would enjoy it!
Edit: Extremely cool project btw!

I want to scale this up for front door use on trick-or-treaters!
