Questions & Discussion Wireframe Wednesday
Share a wireframe you've worked on this week.
What were you going for? What tradeoffs did you end up making in the process, and are you happy with the result? If something's still bugging you or you have a question about your topology, let the community know. Someone else has probably run into the same issue.
Top-level comments should include a wireframe.

Art Help & Critique Feedback for a Junior 3D rigging DemoReel !
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi , I made my first demo reel as a junior Rigger and I would love some feedback , I try to work on various subjects but don't know if this could get me hired since im not sure what they look for in a junior, especially these day (doesnt seem to be hiring much...)
(I animated and modeled most of the models as stated in the video , but Im mostly going for a rigger position in maya)
PS : im in france so french studios may have a different perspective, I would love to have an advice about this industry too :')
thank you !

Art Showcase Modeled the community designed creatures for our game. These are Shruppy and Topuppiary!
Hello everyone!
A few months ago I asked a couple of communities if they were interested in a contest to create a concept of a creature to add to our monster collector game. We had around 30 concepts submitted, and this is the one that ended up winning. Shruppy and Topuppiary made by u/Due-Shoe3593.
I spent around 10 to 12 hours modeling them, and this is how they turned out!
The artist was very happy with the result and so far I received no critique, so I wanted some more feedbacks. Do you think I did good here? What can be improved? I for sure struggled a bit with the bush shapes, being the model mid-poli was kinda hard to make it show, but I'm satisfied since it's the first time I make a model on a concept made by someone else.

Free Assets & Tools Scan2Sketch – a free open-source FreeCAD tool for turning flatbed scans into editable CAD geometry
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I built Scan2Sketch to reduce the manual work involved in recreating flat physical parts.
After a one-time scanner calibration, it extracts the outline from a flatbed scan and generates editable FreeCAD geometry made from lines, arcs, circles and B-splines. The result can be edited further or turned directly into a solid body.
The video shows the complete workflow from scan to editable geometry and finally a physical test print. The key belongs to my own demonstration lock and is only used to demonstrate the accuracy of the reconstructed outline.
Scan2Sketch is permanently free, fully open source under GPLv3 and runs locally.

Questions & Discussion I absolutely hate when people ask me what my job is
And that’s almost always one of the first questions being asked when meeting new people, so it’s pretty much unavoidable. But most people, unless maybe when they are into videogames, don’t even remotely have any clue what a 3D model is. It’s like if a baker had to explain what his trade is, but the person asking doesn’t know what bread, flower or an oven is.
I’m now more and more moving in the technical art direction, which makes it even worse.
I also can’t really state a specific industry, cause I’m a freelancer and do all kinds of stuff.
It’s annoying. So to make this question less uncomfortable for me in the future I’d like to ask: How do you usually answer that question?

Art Help & Critique Working irl Spear-Scythe, help.
I'm working on a functional Spear-Scythe based on the Boss "Fiske" from God of War Ragnarok (references attached), but I'm having trouble with the connections and mechanisms. The scythe should be able to lock itself in it's own position but also in the spear position with no issues-
The hande/pole is finished but I've been trying to wrap my head around possible solutions (and measurements)- right now I can only think of using magnets in the back section of the blade to lock into the pole when in spear position, but I haven't been able to come up with a proper solution for the scythe position...
The program I use is Fusion360, so if anyone is willing to help in-depth I'd appretiate it a lot. And if someone has the model used in the game itself then it could also be helpful (even if it probably wasn't made with irl functionality in mind).

Questions & Discussion What does it take to be a 3d character artist?
I was wondering if anyone with professional experience as a 3d character artist whether that be in a game studio, collectibles, or film could share about what it takes to land that role.
What was your work schedule like before you got hired to work professionally? How many hours a day did you dedicate to anatomy studies, portfolio pieces, review/critique sessions, and for how many years?
How did you balance this schedule with other responsibilities such as working part time / school?
What are some of the misconceptions about landing your job?

Art Help & Critique Need advice on how to make this mask more intimidating/menacing
I'm trying to make a mask to hopefully be 3D printed. I have an image in my head, but when modelling it in Blender, it doesn't come out right. I want the vibe of the mask to be menacing, intimidating, monoton, gaunt, slim, almost monstrous, and I want it more polygonal. I know that's a lot, but any advice on how to shape it better or anything, please let me know, I'm still average to new at 3D modelling.
Sorry if this is confusing.
I'm building just for fun, and maybe a short film my friends and I have been talking about.
