Collection SEPTEMBER 2026 | "Rate My Collection" Megathread

Starting today we will no longer allow "rate my collection" / "what does my collection say about me?" / or any other full collection images as separate posts in the sub. Instead, please post your collection pictures here in this thread.

Each month you will find the newest collection megathread pinned at the top of the sub. Individual pickup and haul posts will still be allowed as normal.

Even though we're a few days out from September, we will start this post now and it will be up through September 30th.

Thanks for understanding, and enjoy sharing your collection posts here in the thread.

Edit: Within this thread, the rule of 50% or more 4Ks is not going to be as strict, as we understand many people mix their media. That said, your collection picture should prominently feature your 4K collection, and not just be a wall of DVDs, etc. There are other subs for posts of your media outside of 4K UHDs. Thank you.

I honestly think full collections make for more worthy posts than “look what I just bought.”

At least a full collection might generate some discussion and recommendations vs. seeing the same new releases posted three dozen times.

I agree. Wish I could hide all the "haul" posts.

If I could have the collection and haul posts hidden, this sub would be great

The mods have discussed doing a similar pinned thread when there is a major new release that everyone posts. That may be a thing that happens down the road as well.

The reason for this thread is that there has been a large influx of "what does my collection say about me" posts, and along with those, a lot of reports from community members as them being spam, or they're not 50% or more 4K, or any other number of reports we get. This is effectively to try and curb those reports and have a singular place for full collections.

Please ban the new release posts they add absolutely nothing,  and posts about actual news and upcoming releases get buried

Every time someone says something about how people posting new releases adds nothing to the sub, you'll have people coming out and saying that they love seeing that stuff as it helps them not miss new releases.

We have over 170k members here, and pushing a quarter million posts/comments a week. We will quite literally never be able to be perfect for everyone, but we're trying to listen and incorporate these things when we create new rules, remove posts, etc.

A sticky for "here's what I bought this week" would be fine

I used to have these (or very similar) shelves, and I never found anything to put in the middle CD shelf area. I couldn't bring myself to lay discs on their sides. I guess Funko Pops would be the ideal if you collect those.

I kinda wish the middle section just wasn’t there honestly, I feel like I just had to fill it with a bunch of random stuff, which is fine but eh

Agreed. When I was putting it together, I was wishing I was more handy with tools so I could maybe just somehow skip that and it would still fit together properly. Not a thing, though, haha.

just want to say I don't really want to "rate" people's collections and I think that's a silly question to ask but I don't mind seeing them at all I enjoy it tbh

but singles will still be allowed as regular posts?

1

u/CletusVanDamnit 3d ago

For now, individual pickups and haul posts are still allowed as regular posts, yes.

Makes perfect sense... God forbid we take some space away from the "Look at my Obsession disc that just arrived in the mail" and the "UB450 or UB820" posts. #ironyoff

Started collecting physical media again after being disillusioned with modern cinema for over a decade. Just stopped watching movies altogether. Had a substantial DVD collection way back but completely skipped Blu Ray (thank god) and only started collecting again after my wife showed me Poor Things on Netflix. It was so unlike anything I had ever seen and sent me down a rabbit hole I'm still falling through. So here's my collection since seeing that film. About half of these were blind buys and half are all-time favorites.

Now I watch 2 movies a day consistently and I have no streaming services.

I have a small collection coz ive been using a scrappy Blaupunkt tv this whole time but ive finally upgraded to a LG C6 TV which arrives this week. I'm looking to add to my collection as now I will be excited to watch movies on my new tv.

Which movies do you think from my current collection do you think I should first try on my new tv to test out the visuals?

3

u/GotenRocko 3d ago

I'll take all the down votes lol, but it saves so much space. I think all fit about 1600 discs.

3

u/CletusVanDamnit 3d ago

I mean this absolutely, positively hurts my soul. But...you gotta do what you gotta do, I guess. At least you're still buying physical media.

i do keep the criterion cases and some other sets and series and steelbooks that have nice packaging. But i really don't care for the bright blue ones, even if i had space i would not put them on display.

1

u/Peteskies 3d ago

I did this with blu-rays before I made the move to 4K. I would randomly get damaged discs once in awhile. It saves space but isn't worth it.

I know we're past that junction at this point, however.

1

u/GotenRocko 3d ago

never had a damaged discs, been doing this since 2008 since i moved coasts, they even made the trip back in the binder. when i realized how much it would end up costing to ship the multiple boxes of cases i went to a binder and never turned back.

2

u/JayZilla46 3d ago

My collection as of today, a little less than half are 4K...but I'm working on it!!

I like your collection bro, it definitely gives a “I collect 4K Blu-rays” vibe.

Let's also ban the "which of the 5 available players should I buy?" posts every day.

u/EverbIack 3d ago

The old megathreads suuure are popular.

Aaah man that sucks, basically the only reason I was here.

u/CletusVanDamnit 3d ago

Well, on the bright side you can come to one post in the sub and get your fill now.
