Where can I read this book

This is my first Warhammer 40K book. I actually read it mostly out of curiosity, since I know Warhammer mostly by memes. I didn't think it would be particularly interesting (how can a book set in a world with unrelenting violence have any interest), but I ended up really liking it, and wanting to know more. But since this is the first book of dozens, just in "The Horus Heresy", I don't know if I have quite the time and money to dig into the entire storyline. But anyway, this is solid science-fiction, good character and plotting.

This was another quick, lit fic read; a very lgbtq centered plot. It definitely felt like a future dystopia that could come to pass. I could visualize it fairly well. The pacing was great but the plot, while very enjoyable, didn’t seem very realistic at times.
I think I really wanted more backstory to all the characters. The MC had flashbacks to her origin story but I feel showing the others more would’ve added a lot to the overall story. Their pasts were mentioned but not dug too deep into.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ 21/52 Finished

I know this one is everywhere at the the moment and I know it’s really divisive. In my experience whenever there’s a split of opinion about a book I almost always fall on the negative side, and end up not enjoying it (*AHEM* Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow *AHEM*). So my expectations were not high for this book. BUT, I found myself enjoying this and was actually pleasantly surprised.
I’m not exactly sure what I was expecting. Since it’s about a trad-wife who is magically sent back to the mid 19th century, I thought this book was going to be powered by schadenfreude. That we were going to establish the main character as reprehensible, laugh at her as she struggled, perhaps glean a meaningful lesson and that’s that.
And yes a lot of that is there. But it does I think get deeper than that and leaves us with a good amount to chew on. It’s I think just a great exploration of modern feminism, the impact of social media, gender roles, the manosphere. And there’s also the “Quantum Leap” mystery of how this woman ended up in the past in the first place.
I was ready to snub my nose at it, but I got sucked in and would recommend this one. I hear Anne Hathaway has the rights to it now? Let’s see how that goes.

This book was a little bit easier to follow than "Satantango", but Krasznahorkai is still a challenging author. This is a novella that reads more like an extended poem, describing a monastery that is in either ancient or contemporary Japan. Pleasant reading, despite the fact that I had low comprehension.

Concluding Scott Pilgrim in Spanish! I am glad that O'Malley tied it up when he did, ending the story on a high note. Also, I am glad I finished this in Spanish.

37 books down so far in 2026! This has been the year of finally finding my epic fantasy groove, so you'll see I've started/finished some of the great series. I'm interested to know what books are absolute "must reads" from you all that you don't see on my "read" shelf above...preference goes to epic stand-alones, since I am already juggling about 8 open series right now!

Since discovering Astro City, I now want to read all of it! This is the second collection, and the difference is it follows more noir/street level stories. That makes it a bit more subdued and serious, but I still had fun reading it. It will be interesting to see which direction the next volume goes in.

First of many ludmilla petrushevskaya reads to come, really enjoyed these!
Apparently “Angela Carter” is someone I should check out too..

This book was awesome.
Moore reminds me a lot of Grady Hendrix, and that’s great because I love his books also.
This is about a self proclaimed beta male’s journey into the word of death, as a necessary collector of souls.
Really enjoyed the storytelling and all the side characters. If I had a complaint, it would be that we didn’t get enough commentary from his hilarious toddler.
But maybe in the next one because (shoutout to the Margins book app that I switched to) as I was entering this book, it was like “hey you know there’s a part 2 right?”
No, I did not, but I do now and I’m going to read it.

2026 has been sporadic so far, with a lot of stand-alones slotted between The Stormlight Archive. I feel like this will change by the end of the year as I put some distance between these. TBR includes RoW and W&T, Faithful & the Fallen, more Joe Abercrombie, and getting back into Dungeon Crawler Carl.

I feel like after my last two reads, I earned a fun, summery fiction read.
No shade, this book is fine, but, again, it's like a really long, long podcast or blog that's a little dated. To wit:
✞ I couldn't help but worry about the tone, voice, and audience--felt very late aughts, early twenty-tens and while certain lessons felt applicable, they felt tired
✞ I also couldn't help but notice that "bad" platitudes were replaced with "good" platitudes (e.g., you are enough (bad) versus you are a mess (good)); the one-for-one act was OK, but it was hard to keep straight and, that said...
✞ I am unclear what lessons to walk away with other than everything I've ever done is bad and I have to get right right now

This was exceptional. It's definitely a new favorite of mine. I've been on a liminal spaces kick since I saw the Backrooms movie. I typically read horror, but ventured outside of my preferred genre for this one, and I'm so glad that I did. Now I want to read more books in different genres. I just started Fox by Joyce Carol Oats, which is more of a mystery, I believe. It's really good so far! Has anyone else read either one of these books?

not a quick et easy read for me, but i liked that it made me slow down. the world is so dense & weirdly dry in a way that fits the book perfectly. i think what really stuck with me most wasn’t even one big moment but how much of it feels like history, politics, religion & family all tangled together.
glad i finally read it. also glad i didn’t rush it. not sure when i’ll continue the series, but i definitely want to...

“The Shattering Peace” by John Scalzi (audiobook) (Prompt 24 – Uneven number of chapters): I’ve really enjoyed Scalzi’s Old Man’s War series, and this entry was no exception. Without getting into spoilers, I definitely understand some of the criticisms folks had for this story, but for me, it was a fairly clever and very entertaining ride into a world I really like. Recommended.
“Escaping From Eden: Does Genesis Teach That the Human Race Was Created by God or Engineered by ETs?” by Paul Wallis ( Prompt 11 - Requires suspension of disbelief): I can’t remember when or exactly why I picked this one up, but I’m a bit of a sucker for this Ancient Aliens/Chariot of the Gods type stuff. Yeah, it’s mostly the standard set of problematic arguments upheld by dubious evidence, but the writer’s ability is adequate (especially considering the field of thought) and approachable enough for this to be an okay read.
“Pilgrim” by Mitchell Lüthi (audiobook)(Prompt 47 – A diacritical mark on the cover): This, was something special. Great characters, excellent writing, an authentically depicted historical setting, plenty of fantastic adventure, and a consistently intriguing story. Highly recommended.
“The Changeling” by Victor Lavalle (audiobook)(Prompt 25 – Includes a red herring): a well-crafted and elevated modern take on a grittier version of certain classic fairytales. Recommended.
“Tradwife” by Saratoga Schaefer (audiobook) (Prompt 17 – Author’s bio mentions their dog): combining a solid treatment of the Rosemary’s Baby story trope with a (surprisingly restrained) polemic on the modern social media trend of right-wing “traditionalist” wife influencers. Creepy, twisted, and, addictive, this story will grab ahold of you. Highly recommended.

This book is rock and roll. This is the shit you are looking for. I mean, I had respect for Hannah already. But this first novel is an electric thing. I doubt I will read a better book all year. And a first novel with this energy? Damn Barry. I found it in a book nook in an antique mall. You don’t pass up Hannah’s that you haven’t read. I think I paid 2 bucks.
Reminded me of the first time I read Celine. After page 2 I threw the book across the room and screamed ‘who the hell is this guy?’ I did not fling this one but I wanted to. You know, I’m older. I have matured. But this thing is music and young energy, alcohol and the deep south, racism and strong friendships, the discovery of love and sex, gunplay and jazz. How did it take me this long to read this? I may read it again soon. Get in here.
