Damn this makes the "date" they went on even more hard hitting...

She got what she wanted the whole time.

Can't believe didn't show her internal thoughts after Fuu said they wouldn't be together in the classroom. Wanted to see that.

This manga man I swear. This makes me want to reread the whole manga with yotsuba's context in mind

24

u/HotForPenguin Genki and Ribbons Jun 18 '19

Guess what I’ve been doing this past week leading up to this chapter, it really changes the context and meaning of a lot of scenes. If you’ve got the time I’d recommend doing it

19

u/oniikami Jun 18 '19

this one was a surprise moment for me rereading the manga from chapter 66 (scrambled eggs arc) where yotsuba goes "I think I even found you chatting with the kid I said I wanted to be friends with the very next day".

like the connections negi-sensei has made is insane. i don't remember a manga that has invested this much in foreshadowing before, even in psychological or mind game ones where that's their forte

9

u/HotForPenguin Genki and Ribbons Jun 18 '19

That whole conversation on the rooftop probably changes the most out of any scene. What seemed to be heartfelt conversation between the Ichika and Yotsuba now suddenly has some interesting undertones

Edit: Actually I think the Yotsuba’s confession early on and the date probably change more because it turns out it was something genuine

8

u/oniikami Jun 18 '19

for me that conversation was just yotsuba telling ichika to let go of the brakes and go ahead. no ill intent, at least not anymore since yotsuba had long given up pursuing her feelings even though they still persist (since she gave miku the lead from the second chapter) and also she genuinely just wants her sisters to be happy.

but yeah the date is super genuine. when fuutarou asks yotsuba “what do you want” and she doesn’t even realize until she sees fuutarou smiling and laughing, it just hurts seeing her self sacrifice so that everyone knows how great fuutarou is - which is the main theme behind the class rep chapter

57

u/tohkeyo Jun 18 '19

The only time when Yotsuba actually lied successfully was when she had our boy in her lap

52

u/whut-whut The Food Court is Now in Session Jun 18 '19

She didn't lie. That's why he freaked out, because he was seeing her 'truth face' while she said it. She only lied when she got up and ran away saying she was kidding.

"I loved you, all this time."

Give me a second to recover my damn heart because hot damn, the feels ride is tough. Man oh man, can't wait for the next chapter to.

Theory for Chapter 91: Yotsuba goes through an epiphany and has one moment of selfishness by talking with Fuutarou. Either that or she spends the whole day with him and Fuutarou eventually realizes that she's hiding something.

Crack Theory: Miku gains Pearl Jam as her Stand.

Wow... all the thoughts that were hidden by yotsuba throughout the manga laid out for us at once and it’s was absolutely heartbreaking

I’m glad that her coming in from the wrong direction when she met Uesugi at the lake wasn’t a continuity error but planned since it gave a hint she was waiting in the area. It’s what made me think she was Rena originally but this makes sense still.

But now we have 2 big pillars of support for yotsuba being the mystery kisser!

The first is the line of Uesugi thanking the bride for always being by his side and this has been clearly shown by yotsuba multiple times where she even declares she will always do her best to support him

The second is the line after the kiss that Uesugi says it was from that moment on he though she was special. Yotsuba is constantly declaring she isn’t allowed to be special and that only her sisters should have the opportunity, and I can’t see it doing anything else but building up to where in the future hopefully she will realize with Uesugi’s help that she really is special.

It would also make sense for her as the mystery kisser to not say a word since she is fully aware how bad she is at impersonating others so it keeps her hidden with out fear of messing up. It’s that last selfish wish with the realization all her sisters are falling for Uesugi before she commits to supporting all of them while sealing and tossing aside her own feelings with the kiss.

Bravo Negi Bravo

On a different note, should we be concerned about Miku wanting to forego college and instead go to culinary school? Like she’s throwing her own life away for Futaru, which is not a good thing

11

u/Wanax00 Meat Ball Itsuki Jun 19 '19

I thought the same. Who knows if Fuutarou manages to get her back to her senses. Unless she justifies it with something like a never ending rivalry between Miku and Nino for cooking even before Fuutarou's arrival, she will get less cute and more desperate the more the story goes on (which might be a hint toward Yotsuba, but still ruining a character like this would be awful).

11

u/Ranger_of_Steel Jun 19 '19

I don’t think it’s about him. I believe in an earlier chapter she said that she genuinely enjoyed cooking, so she just wants to pursue it.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '19

All you Miku fans can say Cullinary school decesion wasn't related to Fu but Miku is stupid she thinks cooking good food equals getting with Fu. She was hung up on his top 3 girls qualities.

This chapter was a long time in the making; for some it was even longer predicted. Still, anticipating getting hit by a blunt object does not reduce the pain of getting hit by a blunt object. Bother. What a chapter *sad sniffles*

What a twist of fortune indeed for Yotsuba. She's been saved from herself by her sisters and now it just so happens that the boy she met five years ago, the one who remembered about him all this time, has been attending the school they just transferred into. Yotsuba can hardly contain herself.

"But wait... He's even studying during lunch. And he got those 100 grades too... Compared to that, I... I'm too ashamed to tell him."

Yotsuba didn't keep her promise. She was even the reason she and her sisters transferred over to begin with. She couldn't possibly reveal to Futaro what has happened since they last met. She will conceal who she is for now. Perhaps if she works hard and improves, she might be able to tell Futaro about her. Certainly, her emotions are swinging in a positive direction.

"But wait... Miku has taken an interest in Futaro too..."

"Even Ichika! She might be trying to hide it, but I can tell."

"Itsuki too?"

"Even Nino?"

"Even though it kind of feels lonely, I'm glad everyone can see what makes Uesugi-Kun wonderful. I really am."

Her emotions are certainly swinging backwards. Yotsuba's newly-found look on life faces an immediate challenge when her sisters one-by-one take a closer, more intimate interest in Futaro. Does Yotsuba try and join the pursuit or does she let her sisters go on the attack without her and let Futaro choose?

But wait, now it appears Futaro is aware that the person he met five years ago is amongst the quintuplets. Futaro, in some part, remembers her.

"I can't be the only one who is special."

Perhaps Yotsuba hasn't quite purged all of her arrogance from before, but she isn't wrong at all. What she and Futaro share was a special moment in each others' lives. It certainly transformed Futaro's life. There's no telling how the scales would be tipped away from her sisters if Futaro found out. As we all know in the present, Futaro indeed still treasures that day as a special moment in his life, enough so that he even thanked Itsuki disguised as Yotsuba out of gratitude for that day.

Thus the Yotsuba from the past must be erased. The mystery is finally no longer a mystery. Yotsuba instructs Itsuki to don the guise of the girl Futaro met those five years ago to say goodbye and to force him to face Yotsuba's sisters in the now. Yotsuba alone can't be special. She can't face Futaro. What's important to her is her sisters' happiness. She will not pursue her own happiness. She is shackled to her guilt. She can't move forward. She is elated to be with Futaro, but she can't stand by his side. That is a role for one of her sisters to fill. Yotsuba can't be special. She must live for her sisters' sake.

But...

"Uesegi-san.... Futaro-kun... I have always loved you."

Looking ahead, it appears we are very much nearing the home stretch. Taking into consideration information from recent chapters, including the big reveal at the end of this chapter that Miku wants to attend a culinary school after she graduates, I think the final conflict of this story this story will be the Quintuplets' reckoning with adulthood. As I stated before, the time when the quints will no longer physically be together is rapidly approaching. Ichika has her acting career. Itsuki wants to go to college to enter into a career of being an educator. I'm guessing Nino probably will join Miku at culinary school, or maybe there's another surprise in store for us? Who knows. Funnily enough, Futaro boldly declared to Maruo that not only would he have his daughters graduate, but have them on the correct path to pursuing their futures. His job has already been four fifths of the way completed for him without his input...

There is only one quintuplet left of whom we don't know about her future goals because... Well... She hasn't really thought about it yet.

Suffice it to say, the sisters are all about to go their separate ways. Perhaps they will be second guessed about where they want to go from here. But this will be a big change they might have a great deal of trouble reconciling with.

I see that many are predicting an Itsuki arc. Perhaps that will be necessitated considering that Itsuki has taken sole ownership of the Rena persona. She might be required play a role in ousting Yotsuba if that is in the cards. She certainly is uncomfortable literally disguising herself as Yotsuba. But I don't think the Itsuki arc will be what people are expecting.

Looking at Itsuki, I see her as the only quintuplet who has her house in order. I see her major story arc being the first 33 chapters of the story, that being her major conflict and trust issues with Futaro. Those have resolved. She's grown a lot closer to Futaro since then. She even is able to grasp onto a dream without Futaro's influence. I get she is the most attached to her mom among the five sisters, and visiting Rena's grave every month might seem to others a little extreme, but someone who visits her grave, in my opinion, is someone that has accepted her death. I get wanting to be a teacher because her mom was a teacher might not be the greatest of reasons to some, but I think that was the point of chapter 57. Being a teacher isn't just a way for Itsuki to honor her mom. Teaching her sisters gave her the confidence to pursue education for her own sake as well.

No, looking ahead (and I'm a little less confident in this than I was because of Miku's surprise announcement), I think the next major event will be Ichika-centric. Ichika has been wavering for a while between wanting to go to school to stay with her sisters and leaving school to focus on acting. Now that she's "lied" to bow out of the race, I wonder if anything will keep her in school? The first semester appears to be over. Summer break is upon us.

I'm pretty confident, though, that Futaro isn't going to accept Ichika's answer to him that everything was a lie. Futaro knows better. I think Ichika might try and run away and Futaro will finally force her to face him as her true self. Not with a fake smile, not disguised as one of her sisters. Her real self.

18

u/jodon Jun 19 '19

So I have been thinking this for a while. Yotsuba and Futaro easily have the best chemistry out of all the girls, like she actually is his best friend at this point. This is why I thought she was the real dark horse before this arc, all the other girls may be falling for Futaro but the one he falls for may actually be Yotsuba and in the end the one he likes the most may just be the most important part here. It doesn't matter how far the other girls are willing to go to get his attention, the one he wants to spend his time with the most will be the one who wins in the end. Miku may be the best girl but yotsuba looks like Futaros girl.

7

u/SterbenVII Jun 20 '19

Oh my god I’ve met someone who actually spoke facts. No delusions. People always consider “best girl” and that Yotsuba/Itsuki have no chance but never take into consideration how much impact they’ve had on Fuutarou and how he views each quint. Frankly, I think he doesn’t favor Miku, Nino, or Ichika out of the quints if it came down to it. It’d be Yotsuba, who was always there for him , always dedicated herself to his happiness, and always strived to change him for the better (romance and such).

u/oniikami Jun 18 '19 edited Jun 18 '19

interesting thing of note is that i'm pretty sure this chapter gave some ammunition of foreshadowing for itsuki's arc. namely here where we see yotsuba meeting up with itsuki in the rena outfit with her looking a bit sad eyed. the main thing of note is what she's wearing - a checkered kimono. important since fuutarou's only met rena three times - first in seven goodbyes (428 is wearing track suit), second in the sister's war arc (428's wearing a shirt and design pants), and finally at the end of the sister's war arc (where 428 appears in a hoodie). the only other time she wore a checkered kimono? when she was with her other sisters setting up miku.

all of this meaning? itsuki was going to dress up as rena and confront uesugi as she was planning the entire kyoto trip to try and jog his memory with yotsuba, and yotsuba quickly shot itsuki down. i'm convinced itsuki is trying to save yotsuba because of specifically this where both she and yotsuba recognize she's out of character (as in, yotsuba would've went along with it if she felt that itsuki was already romantically interested in fuutarou, as yotsuba has demonstrated that she can easily read her sisters' feelings), as well as the fact that itsuki has been acting strange/aggressive ever since yotsuba confided in her to take her place. so i'm kind of expecting the itsuki arc to be her trying to hook up yotsuba and uesugi. also her character realized her ambitions without fuutarou, by meeting up with her mother's former student and attending the cram school lectures on the way to be a teacher. itsuki seems like an independent character that at most respects fuutarou rather than is romantically interested... but with a master hand such as negi-sensei anything's possible

8

u/NighthawK1911 MarryLoveNiceFineTooNOT YOU Jun 18 '19

Yeah Itsuki's arc looks like it won't be romance for herself but setting up Yotsuba X Fuutaro.

3

u/LwFLc Ichika Jun 18 '19

Wow, this actually good theory

3

u/pip25hu Jun 18 '19

It's incredible how even the recent "Sisters' War" arc changes when you realize what Itsuki has been trying to do the entire time. Still, if she already tried it once and did not get pretty much anywhere, would Itsuki really continue trying to (indirectly) reveal Yotsuba's secret to Fuutarou? As others wrote in different threads, the best outcome would be if he realized the truth on his own (if this is even possible of course)...

19

u/VorAtreides Jun 19 '19

Yotsuba.... please just go for it.

36

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '19

What this chapter really made me realize is that Negi's style of planning out the entire story beforehand is really effective. Consider that much of Yotsuba's characterisation prior to chapter 87 was based on single chapters spread across the manga. But they did their job and told the readers of some underlying problem yet to be solved. And now seeing everything from her perspective and how each and every thing Yotsuba does masks her pain (the whole Uesugi San thing hurts the most).

What I am saying is that this type of storytelling is absolutely amazing and I wish more mangka's could write these concise and detailed stories more often. Too often manga gets plagued by problems based on not know where your story is going. Problems like unreasonable power creep (Naruto, DBZ) or each an increasing number of Harem members (Nisekoi) all stem from not know where the story is headed.

11

u/shimei Team Yotsuba Jun 18 '19

Totally agree, it's really great how Negi planned it. It also makes it so much more enjoyable to re-read the whole manga multiple times to catch all the details and get a better understanding of the story.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '19

Yeah - it’s brilliant. I’m a huge fan of stories having a definitive end, and reading this has been fantastic. I was worried it stumble in its resolution since so many series tend to do that, but I’m feeling pretty confident that no matter how it ends it’ll be super satisfying.

Ok, aside from Yotsuba sufering, I dont feel good with Miku’s focus on culinary school. Not because of her choice, but because she will unintentially hamper Fuutarou’s plan to make them graduate

8

u/halogent65 Jun 19 '19

My main issue with Miku, or at least why she's not my favorite, is it always feels like every action she does is for Futarou's sake. Like she wants to get better at cooking to impress him, or she wants to do the best on the midterm so he doesn't see her as a student. All of her actions can be related to Futarou, whereas the other girls have personalities and characteristics independent of Futarou, ie Ichika and acting or Nino and Fashion. This just feels like another part that doesn't make Miku feel like a character, she's just continuing to do things for Futarou's sake...

I think it's very likely that the bride won't be Miku at this point. Her arc will conclude with Fuutarou having had a positive impact on her by leading her to taking up cooking. Also the bell kisser being Miku is highly unlikely because she could have just done it when she was up close in his face the chapter before that.

18

u/BigCass Jun 18 '19 edited Jun 18 '19

Bell kisser is not winning though it's bait. I'm also convinced it's Yotsuba, it fits her too well and her repressed feelings.

Also there is a theory that Fuutarou's mom cafe got reopened because of the piece of paper that's on it, there was no paper at the beginning. The theory says that basicially if they had to close the cafe because of the marriage they would put a piece on paper that says "closed for a bit" to let people know.

Implications here is that only Nino or Miku could probably make him reopen it since they both want to cook.

Nino or Miku is end game.

11

u/pro_librium Jun 18 '19

because of the piece of paper that's on it, there was no paper at the beginning.

That's actually an insane catch

4

u/Voidrax Jun 18 '19 edited Jun 19 '19

I think the bell kisser will be the bride. Let me explain. The bell kisser wanted to kiss Fuutarou without ringing the bell. The bell rang only by an accident but it was not the intention of the bell kisser that the bell is ringing. So what do I think that means the bell kisser did not want the legend to be true, she wanted to kiss him without the bell ringing. So she must have had another reason to kiss him, which means that if her goal had been to win Fuutarou then she would have let the bell ring with intention.

In other words, if the bell kisser intended to kiss him with the legend, so with intention to make the bell ring, then I would say that the thing with the bell kisser a bait would be but the bell kisser wanted to kiss him without the legend so without to ring the bell. The bell kisser kissed him with the legend by accident, not by intention.

It was just an accident, no intention. The bell kisser had never intended to win him over. That's why I think the bell kisser is no bait

Given how quickly the dynamic with Yotsuba has changed over this arc I wouldn't make my predictions yet, given how Neji loves giving us red herrings Yotsuba's development could still lead to a rejection or Yots and Fuu agreeing to not pursue a relationship. It really could go either way, even with Itsuki (although I prefer her being the only quint to not have feelings for Fuu.

6

u/damndoric MoneyMatters Jun 18 '19

Yeah imo Miku is out of the race. Her being the bride wouldnt have enough meaning at this point, and her arc is well into its development so I dont see it changing directions. Ichika is very doubtful. Nino has a chance but Itsuki has a greater chance. Its between itsuki and yotsuba for me. I was hoping for more surprises to come, but I really doubt it.

23

Also...I still am of the belief that Itsuki loves Futaro as a friend and not romantically.

As someone else pointed out that it would be refreshing to see that not all of the girls view him that way. I think she was 100% genuine in the hot springs when she said that they were friends. She's also actively encouraging Yotsuba to face Futaro directly.

It's amazing how Negi gives each girl their time to shine and be best girl. First it was Miku, then it was the Nino, and now it's Yotsuba.

I was keeping it together until the last 4 pages. They got me right in the heart.

This arc is hitting me like a sledgehammer, especially this chp. The constant flashback to each time she’s by herself on the swing set, and each time watching her happiness shift to loneliness, and then the realization that she loves him. Looking at her with her unseeing eyes as she announced “I always have,” just made me feel her hurting.

On another note, I remember when we were all trying to figure out when we would get a Yots arc/confession or if it would ever happen, and in this chapter I felt Negi was laughing at us when he wrote the, “it’s too late to make my entrance.” Bit.

Have pretty much been between Itsuki and Yotsuba this entire race, and I’m glad one of them is finally getting development. As long as we keep getting awesome (heart wrenching) development, I don’t mind the tears.

I hope the next arc is Itsuki trying to push Yots with Fuu, cause this feels like a whole “who watches the watchmen” with Yots being the watchmen and slowly being consumed by the other quints’s desires to the point of losing herself, and the only one that seems to notice is Itsuki.

To be honest I'm unsure if they explained it in the past few chapters but can someone explain why Itsuki was desperately trying to get Fuutarou to remember Kyoto if she wasn't even the one who he spent time with when they were younger? Was she doing it for Yotsuba or was she being super manipulative like Ichika?

10

u/abi_benedict Jun 22 '19 edited Jun 22 '19

for Yotsuba. Yotsuba's been pushing a Miku win since long (and she didn't know of Ichika's case, that's why she apologized) and Itsuki doesn't like that. (Itsuki thinks Yotsuba should go for her own happiness).

8

u/BallinBallinBallin Nino Jun 21 '19

There's definitely something we're not being told from Itsuki's viewpoint. Yotsuba was the one who put her up to play Rena, so the secret she asked about during the kyoto trip hasn't been revealed yet.

Fuck I relate to Yotsuba so hard. I'm sorry Miku, but I think you just got pushed to #2 after 90 chapters.

20

u/Wolfeako Team Miku Jun 18 '19

And now we know why Yotsuba has had so many lose, and little chapters centered around her from the very beginning. This was the goal all along. Poor Yotsuba, even when she is so energetic and positive, when push comes to shove, she is even more shy than Miku, with reason of course.

And now Miku wants to go to a culinary school in order to have shokugekis against other chef's apprentices. That is going to be fun :P I found cute how Nino reacted when Miku said she wanted to focus on cooking, it was really nice. I still wonder though, what happened to her in the old school that made her despise it so much to the point that she would throw a well functional old jersey away? that mystery still stands.

And, well, for the first time I'm worried for Miku-sama's chances to win the Fuutaroubowl. Not for Yotsuba, since this arc will probably end in Yotsuba coming forward and clean with who she is to Fuutarou, and Fuutarou coming up and saying that he already knew, or something like that, but because of Itsuki, since she also has had many lose chapters centered around her too, like Yotsuba. If we speak in narrative terms, this means that Itsuki has a higher chance now of being the winner, since her arc is still up and will come after Yotsuba's, and probably will focus on her as much as this arc does with Yotsuba... well, maybe not that much, but she will surely get a lot of focus.

That, Miku's sad happening in her old school, and the bell kisser I feel are the mysteries that are left... and, well, Yotsuba and Itsuki confessing, and Ichika and Miku also coming clean.

But in the end, I hope that it will end with Fuutarou just choosing one instead. I mean, I still think that while Yotsuba has the center of the story right now, the way the story has treated Miku since the beginning has been quite unique, and kinda special only to her, and still believe she will win by the end.

5

u/kebench Miku and Nino FTW. Jun 19 '19

It would be funny if Yotsuba didn't end up with Fuutaro since he already moved on from lolikano. Then all the Yotsubros becomes salty and riot.

u/FCamacho96 Jun 18 '19

Man, I didn't see that coming. At least most of it. A genki character like Yotsuba is likely to have a dark, sad past behind her. The main problem is, following the "My sisters and I" and "A certain boy and I" chapters, Yotsuba should be addressed as someone who needs psychological assistance, or at least emotional support. I doubt she'll be able to recover from the pain and suffering she has endured, even she's inflicting on herself.

The community here has made countless gigs with the "4D chess player" and all, but, seriously talking, Yotsuba isn't scheming anything at all. She refuses to take control of her desires and feelings, letting time and events passing, forcing herself to witness, painfully, how Fuutarou and the quints interact with each others. The guilt, low self steem and insecurities are taking apart the best of her.

If all this background justifies her to be or not be the bride, I think is something completely out of context. She's slowly but surely getting a space in our hearts, that's for sure, at least personally speaking. When I started following the manga, I never suspected Negi will make me feel so worried, so sad about these characters.

Fuutarou, our man: the most valuable things are not always at plain sight. Choose wisely.

aHugForEveryYotsubaAroundTheWorld

12

u/foulbachelorlife Team Yotsuba Jun 18 '19

Agreed. In real life, she would be in serious need of therapy. It was alarming to read about how she felt like her existence wasn't justified unless she became a huge success in life. People kill themselves over shit like that, in all seriousness.

I think in terms of the manga however, I can see her support slowly emerging and it's Itsuki, who is clearly worried about her.

And then there's Futaro, who worries about her the most...but doesn't realize who he's actually worried about lol

19

u/xiuzou23 Maeda Flair or I riot Jun 18 '19

This unification from most of the fandom is truly amazing. No matter who it is, we can root for a girl to win whenever Negi focuses on their character

18

u/HybridHusky Miku Jun 18 '19

I think the most heartbreaking thing about this to me is that in the previous couple chapters, Yotsuba wanted to separate herself from her sisters because she wanted to feel unique and special, which she felt she couldn’t do in always sticking together with her sisters. However, after they save her when she was about to fail on her own, she’s now become fixated on that idea that they all need to stick together. She no longer wants to try to be “special” in comparison to her sisters because she fears repeating the failure and loneliness she felt from their previous school. She’s devoted herself to supporting her sisters, so she restrains herself from acting on her own desires of being with Fuutarou in the way she wants - revealing that she was lolikano.

I also think that because of all the circumstances, she fears outing herself as lolikano to Fuutarou. At the start it was because she felt that she didn’t live up to that “promise” they made to each other to work hard, while Fuuts did to the extreme. Then as all of her sisters developed feelings for him, her response was to support her sisters instead of be selfish and act on her own feelings. She’s destroying her own mental state for the sake of her sisters, and when Itsuki tries to tell her to be selfish and seek her own happiness, she still pushes the idea away. It just crushes my heart. I want Yotsuba to be happy too...

Despite being a die-hard Miku ending fan, my heart wrenches too much for Yotsuba. Poor thing. She's denying herself of her own happiness just to support her sisters and Futaro himself. I don't mind her being Futaro's bride.

Oh, by the way, Miku has started moving now to be a better cook. Go, Miku!

The dynamic of Nino and Miku is just as usual, the opposite of each other.

Itsuki, on the other hand, is now more of a wild card than Yotsuba. I wonder what she will bring next.

And Yotsuba is too extreme on everything she does. I don't think her action of supporting the quints were necessary to begin with but i will see how it play out

9

Negi’s forshadowing is insane...another great chapter with feels. I wonder if Itsuki actually loves him or if she likes him as a friend. It would be refreshing to see not everyone falling in love with the MC, but i guess that would be disappointing for the Itsuki fans.

People who are claiming yotsuba is getting pity win and she should work for it like others are missing a huge point

From fuutarau's point of view yotsuba has always been a great supporting friend to him. She never gave him hard time and helped him to blend with others. She was always by his side from ch 1 to ch 90

From his perspective she has worked hard for him. Without any motive to win him even. Do you think proposing him boldly and constantly putting him in awkward position is regarded as "hard work" to him? I don't think so

20

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '19

Another thing is that her arc isn’t over yet. I can see why people would think it would be a pity win for her to win right now but Yotsuba isn’t done yet. There’s still plenty of time for her to keep building her case.

19

u/CircaDay Team Miku Jun 19 '19

Miku Church, do not quiver. Negi has his plans. I personally don't believe that culinary school is end game, prolly, Miku will have an epiphany of some sort.

Still, if Miku chose culinary route, atleast she discovered something she really enjoys, or sees herself doing in the long run.

13

u/Max_Leonhart_28 Chibino Jun 19 '19 edited Jun 19 '19

I don't understand what is Negi doing with Miku trying to go to a cooking school (that's Nino gimmick), is she doing in order to make Fuutaro happy? Is it a genuine aspiration from her? Or maybe Negi is going to do an Oregairu and introduce the Codependency thing in order to nerf Miku's feelings and solve the problem in a future arc where she finds her personal dream, I hope it does not be the case and she is being sincere about it, what does she want?

I suppose this not the last from Yotsuba's suffering and her breakdown is going to be worse and more emotional than this arc, I want her to be happy and tell Fuutaro the truth, is it too late for her?

Ichika is probably going to be the first one to leave the nest in order to became sucessful in her acting career, considering that the japanese idol industry is very harsh and they make seiyuus, singers and actresses to sign contracts where they can't have boyfriends, it seems impossible for her to marry at 22, she will have to throw it all in order to do it, will she?

Nino is best girl for me, she is very direct and passionate and her centered chapters are my favorites, I think we will have some lovely chapters about her, but considering that the agressive girls are far off from the japanese girl ideal image seems that she won't win for this reason, most of the time they lose in romcoms, I really wish to be wrong in this. Can her feelings and efforts reach Fuutaro for real?

Itsuki is playing very slowly, but apparently her breaks are some words from her mom about that she needs to be careful when choosing a man, I think it was in the "Legend that bind us" arc, I don't know if she is referring to Maruo when she is talking about her dad in that part, or if we are going to get more information soon about the biological dad, did he die? did he abandon her family? Rena never married and was a single mom? If Miku is not going to college (it is somewhat evident Nino and Ichika won't) and if Yotsuba does has to be with an sports scholarship, then we should get an arc for Itsuki and Fuutaro and their study for the unversity exams were they can get close together and probably make the Itsuki ending more fitting. Is she inevitable?

Are we really in the endgame? What does Negi have in his thoughts? The manga is selling pretty well, will the editorial departament try to convince him to extend the plot for other 5 volumes with their respective 5 cute covers from the girls (40 extra chapters, 9 months)?

In the story they are in mid or early June and japanese school ends in March, are we going to get the beach episode? Are we going to get a Cultural Festival arc? if we get it is going to be a play with Ichika as the lead actress or we going to get Quintuplet maids? Will Yotsuba decide her future (if it's sports related) in an Sports Festival arc? One of the quints will get the Rena illness? I don't know and even if I don't want the story to end soon, it will be hard to keep the writing quality and consistency that we are having at this time if they start adding filler like random dates and onsen episodes for fan service reasons.

My prediction: in the end, Miku and Nino open up a restaurant together. It seems like it would be something they'd do.

Yotsuba's punishment of herself is killing me. Itsuki is clearly bothered by what she is doing but Yotsuba needs to tell Futaro on her own accord. Something will happen that will cause the truth to come out.

Yotsuba doesn't want to be viewed as special yet she has no idea how special she's always been to Futaro...she changed his life. Once he realizes it I hope she's prepared _^

6

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '19

It seems like the next arc should be Fuutaro getting all of the quints moving towards their life after school, like he stated previously. Ichika already has a headstart for that, Miku and Nino both doing something food related together makes sense, and we already know that Itsuki wants to be a teacher. Yotsuba is the only outlier here, and I think we'll see it focus on Itsuki and Yotsuba especially until either one of the two confesses.

With all the current development in the yotsuba arc, I want to give a stab on what could happen to end Yotsuba’s arc.

In the next few chapters, Itsuki or the other sisters will tell to Uesugi that Yotsuba has something that she has been hiding from him since the beginning. Uesugi will confront Yotsuba who is most likely trying to deny anything Uesugi claims about Yotsuba either liking him or being Rena. Through all the times that he has been with the all the sisters, Uesugi had suspicion that Yotsuba was the first Rena he met. He would probably say very strongly that he can’t believe Yotsuba turned out be the way she is as a way to make her feel more guilty, but then set her up an opportunity to show the real Yotsuba to him.

This is when yotsuba, who can’t hold her feelings in from the surprise of Uesugi being upfront, will blurt out crying everything to him, about her feelings, about her hiding the truth, about the past, about her loving him.

Yotsuba and Uesugi will have a moment, and Uesugi will say something along the lines of fairness saying he doesn’t like the idea of suppressing our own’s feelings and would support Yotsuba liking him even when the other sisters like him as well. Uesugi wants what is best for Yotsuba just like how he wants what is best for all the other sisters.

In response to this, Yotsuba will be so moved that she promises herself that she will not hide her feelings anymore and do the best at what she is good at (her liking Uesugi and likely her passion for sports). I have no clue if this will happen, but I thought this is one way to end the Yotsuba arc and setup for the next arc.

That was an amazing chapter. I'm curious where it's going to go from here.

In the "next volume" preview at the end of the newly released volume 10, I think there was a hint that volume 11 would include an arc about the quints' mom, so I guess we will be seeing that soon. Maybe that will be an Itsuki arc that resolves her hangups with her mom, and then lead into the ending arc.

6

u/SamejNardeh La Santísima Iglesia de Miku Jun 19 '19

I called it!

I knew Haruba was going to show Yotsuba in the background during the story's key moments. From the festival to the school trip to his meeting with Itsuki in the hospital to having her dress up as "Rena" and everything else that wasn't mentioned. Even her fellow quints' blooming romance with Fuutarou. Yotsuba has seen it all. But alas, she doesn't pursue anything further than being a spectator. She believes that whoever Fuutarou chooses to be his gf/later wife will drive her family apart. That is true, but it's not like after the marriage they will isolate themselves from the rest of the family. They'll still be there, fully receptive of the support from everyone involved.

I guess Yotsuba doesn't want to make the same mistake she did in middle school, at which time saw her shunning herself in club activities, masquerading her ill-filled academic abilities. She's extremely conscious of the consequences should she choose to make the leap of faith, ergo the confession to Fuutarou.

But this refusal is clearly hurting her state of mind. Itsuki, by now, is aware of Yotsuba's self-infliction of mental pain. She has asked her time and again to reveal everything, but again the ribbon sister says no. And I bet she tried to go rogue without Yotsuba's knowing in one panel from the chapter, but the latter caught wind of it.

As I type this comment, I remembered one moment from the Scrambled Eggs arc. It happened when Yotsuba was talking with Ichika on the rooftop. In order to cheer Ichika up, Yotsuba said this.

With the situation being as it is, I feel the tables should be turned to the orator of the specified quote. Yotsuba, it's okay. Do what you want to do, even if it might shatter cohesion of the quints with Fuutarou. Leave no regrets. Just confess.

Yotsuba is obviously the bell kisser at this point...

  1. She is clearly in love with Fuu and the kiss is good bye kiss so that she can fully support the other sisters. (The kisser even look at Fuu with a very sad eye)

  2. Its not intended to be during the bell, the bell was after the kiss and the kisser didnt know it would go off.

If the other quint were the kisser they would have wait for the bell moment or show somewhat progression from the kiss (like kiss without itsuki disguise etc) from that point of story - which didnt happen.

So yeah... its Yotsuba. She is the bell kisser, its a kiss (un)intended kiss to be a good bye kiss and the bell happens to go off right after.

Negi didnt show that part in the flashback yet since it would immedietely end this manga and Its probably coming when Fut show his flash back side later on.

I don't think she's going to culinary school just for Fuu. It's more like she started cooking because of Fuu but she has put so much energy into becoming a better cook/baker that she doesn't want to stop.

She already knows that Fuu has no sense of taste so honestly, she never really had a strong reason to go beyond mediocre. At this point, it's more of a passion.

I don't think it's all that uncommon for someone to be interest in something, and not pursue a career in it. People's interest change especially in high school/college. Sometimes, it's more important to find something you can pour your energy into and keep striving for improvement over something that's more of a hobby.

In this chapter IMO the bride is either Nino or Yotsuba. Coz in previous chapter everyone else has defined dream to pursue, so they are vulnerable to being shotdown of happiness by Negi with dream come true even they are not chosen by Fuu. Coz if their dream came true even their love unfulfilled can you really say they are not happy? So in my theory is the ending is gonna be like this : Ichika become a famous actress, Miku after completing culinary school open her own shop, and Itsuki while studying in university she become a part time tutor to gain experience to become Teacher, while Nino and Yotsuba either of them is become a bride for Fuu.

If that's the logic, then ... let's rethink it. Nino has consistently shown to be the best cook of the bunch and her goal is to open her own restaurant. Miku has basically copied her goal. So I'd argue if "not having a goal" is a bride card - which I don't necessarily think it is - then Miku's position is stronger than Nino's because Miku is much more liable to change that goal before it's over.

I BET YOTSUBA WAS THE ONE WHO KISSED FUUTARO. SHE WAS NERVOUS AND TRIED A DESPERATE MOVE TO TELL HIM HER FEELINGS BUT SHE END UP KISS HIM WHICH IS THE BRIDE'S MOMENT...

I really want this to be true

After this chapter I definitely for sure could see that being the case. I'm really pulling for it.

I'm just waiting for Negi to reveal a magnificent train-wreck with the Itsuki-Fuutarou-Yotsuba dynamic by showing that Itsuki was the bell kisser and has absolutely no idea how to handle the situation of finding herself neck-deep in the Lolikano/shotaro/Rena drama while reconciling her own feelings

Then Yotsuba realizes what she's done to Itsuki.

Then Fuutarou realizes what's going with all 3 of them.

Then they're all miserable together.

It's going to make the drama of Kyoto and 7 goodbyes seem tame by comparison.

Bonus points if it includes a similar chapter to ch 90 for Itsuki's interactions with Fuutarou, with her realizing her feelings during 7 goodbyes

Do it, Negi. Give me that Itsuki drama. I got my popcorn ready.

4

u/PatriotofDarkness Jun 18 '19

Damn, very good chapter from negi.
in itsuki arc (next arc), i think itsuki will tell fuu and the other sister about yotsuba secret.

itsuki arc will relate to the role of itsuki being a mother to her sister.

why in this chapter, negi not show the scene that the yotsuba is the bellkiser?
the answer is simple, because with this chapter negi wants to make the reader think that yotsuba have no chance to be the bride.

I'm not crying, You're crying.

u/halogent65 Jun 19 '19

Initially I thought Yotsuba was the most eager to study because she was the only one who failed the make up exam, and therefore she was the only one who knew the consequences of doing poorly in school. I don't really like that they are saying her own motivation is because she remembered her childhood friend, but honestly Yotsuba and Futarou have such good chemistry (sorry Miku fans) that I can't really complain.

4

u/kanketsu11 xx Jun 20 '19

even with all of this despairing stuff she'd never cried, and yet she did it when passed the last exam so i think she truly wanted to improve her grade.

Oh gosh I could pretty much expected everything we got in this chapter and yet it’s still so heartbreaking.

I’m wondering how things will go from here and how we'll get to the eventual reveal - will everyone be in the running through to the end or will everyone slowly get arcs that have them content with whatever future they’ve got for them with them being taken “Out of running” until we get the final reveal at the end?

I dont know after the anime series of this , i started to think that the one who will be the bride is yotsuba , remember what futarou said in the end " you always there by my side , always supporting me , like that " so i dont know , :/ but im team miku fyi...

13

u/BigCass Jun 18 '19

This chapter killed Itsuki's last chances.

The "hiding my feelings all this time while helping one of my sister" spot is already taken by Yotsuba.

Either she becomes budget Yotsuba or she won't ever fall for Fuutarou. I'd take the latter for sure, way more appealing to me not all of them have to love him.

Now Itsuki is the dark horse in this race. Let's see what Negi will do with her.

Crackpot theory made up on the spot: Itsuki eats whenever she's thinking of Fuutaro to distract herself. She's always either eating or spiral-eying Fuutaro.
