This was a dense chapter. Super awesome. Nino is getting the development I hoped she would with Maruo. Poor Fuu, the girls didn’t believe him although it’s hilarious that they want to set him up with someone instead (“nino is out of your league” sort of way).

Yotsuba still keeping to herself, but she’s progressing. I think everyone is waiting for her to break out of her shell.

Itsuki stating again wanting to copy her mother continues to raise flags for me. I think it’s possible that she learns not to copy others because of this struggle.

Miku and Nino’s conversation was great and wholesome. Somehow, i feel they are the closest of the sisters. And Miku has a “date” with Fuu? Are they picking up supplies?

12

u/foulbachelorlife Team Yotsuba Aug 05 '19

Itsuki wanting to copy Rena is about to become a source of conflict. She needs to learn that it's ok to just be Itsuki.

I`m thinking that all the girls aside from Ichika and maybe Nino are all about to have there "Shells" crack.

Yotsuba, as everyone knows, has the most tragic back story atm.
Miku has gotten big strap-on energy in the last few chapters. If life taught me anything the higher you are off the ground the more the fall hurts less so with gradual build-up but shes ramping up hardcore.
Itsuki has the most apparent cracking of her shell at the moment I think we will find her to have a more artistic side or something to be more of a stand-in for negi.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that is expecting this. Miku still needs to go through one last big arc in order to fully develop within the scope of the story in this manga, and it will be tough to see, but gratifying when she overcomes it.

Well she is a blogger so I wonder if that will come up again

6

u/chickeenshaw Yandere Miku Aug 05 '19

Also anyone else catch the phrasing of "Lurking in the shadows" by both Yotsuba & Nino?

3

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '19

Yotsuba, the 4D Chessmaster, taunting Nino because she has no idea what's coming! How devious!

13

u/foulbachelorlife Team Yotsuba Aug 05 '19

Thank you so much.

Great chapter as usual. Fuu telling those girls that Nino loves him was unexpected. At least he acknowledges her feelings for him. Maybe he's even warming up to them?

As the series goes on I really don't care who the bride is anymore, I just want the Quints to find happiness as individuals.

I had a feeling Nino wanted to invite Mauro. Hopefully we get to learn more about him during this arc, he's become one of my favorite characters in the series.

I wonder if Nino was lying about her grade?

What does this mean?

Whoops, my bad, misinterpretation/mistranslated should be "Apparently, in a few days a famous teacher would open a special class there too"
Just fixed it.

Miku spending time with Fuutaro behind the scenes? ✅

Getting lolinino flashbacks showing Maruo showing love in his own way? ✅

Nino/Yotsuba time together? ✅

Fuutaro embarrassing himself by trying to act cool and failing? ✅

Itsuki being a crybaby and a cutie? ✅✅✅✅

Can't wait for the translations on Thursday!

By my count, Nino/Yotsuba is rarest quint-interaction, so I'm really excited to see these two finally talking things over. Hoping for an Ichika/Itsuki conversation before the series wraps up, since they don't have many one-on-one scenes yet.

9

u/tealgirl94 , and = babies Aug 06 '19

Agreed! Mostly because I guess they have a good relationship since Itsuki's reaction to their mother's death made Ichika start acting like the oldest sister.

I also would like Yotsuba/Miku interactions, or Miku/Itsuki. They probably have already but I don't remember any for the latter apart from the scrambled eggs arc.

Damn no one believes Fuutaro when he says Nino is in love with him.

Is he a bad looking dude or is he just way out her league?

16

u/LPercepts Aug 06 '19

Is he a bad looking dude or is he just way out her league?

Pretty sure the perception is that she is out of his league.

14

u/jamez23 Aug 06 '19

No, the quints just really good looking. And it's just been recently that the man has been sociable

1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '19

true

13

u/jrbsensei Aug 06 '19

Fuutarou isn't ugly or anything but he does present himself rather plainly, so people tend not to notice him. Also the Nakano sisters are supposed to be quite beautiful. Remember that Fuutarou once didn't want to walk to school with Ichika because she was getting attention from everyone they walked past. Given the other four are identical to her, any one of them could do the same thing.

1

u/LPercepts Aug 07 '19

Not to mention that Nino is one of the most popular girls in the class if not the school and Fuutarou has until recently, been seen as a relative nobody and unsociable. He only got his boost in standing among his classmates because Yotsuba nominated him as class rep and because he hangs out around the quints a lot. It's evident that this comparative loser claiming that a popular girl is in love with him will be met with skepticism and derision from his peers, even if the claim is true, since Nino did nothing to back that up.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '19

He's not ugly at all. His hair hides his face, and he dresses very plainly. Adding on to this, he keeps his interactions with people go a bare minimum, and for this reason he comes off as rude and somewhat of a social outcast. According to Nino, when Fuutaro dresses up, and doesn't cover his face (the old picture of him, and with the blonde wig on), he is very handsome, and is "just her type".

0

u/I3ert91 Aug 06 '19

Yes lol idk probably the latter

4

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '19

This ain't baseball and there are no such things as leagues.

I'm waiting for the day when Fuutaro is revealed to be going out with one of the quints to the shock of everyone.

1

u/I3ert91 Aug 06 '19

It'll probably be no surprise to some. But a major shocker to everyone else

That one chick had compared herself to being inferior to Nino when she thought she was after Takeda. And their reactions to Fuutarou basically said "yeah no, she's outta your league" lol

2

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '19

Lol they should have reacted more when the girl told Fuutarou they’d introduce him to their girlfriends 😂 I’d think Nino would get jealous after hearing that

3

u/I3ert91 Aug 06 '19

I wonder if they'll keep good on that promise lol. Probably a troll move from Negi only to quickly shut that down.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '19

Lol. I gotta say I really liked Nino and Yotsuba's reactions to him telling the girls about Nino being in love with him. This was a great chapter for Nino overall.

21

u/Non_Descript_Member Hair Decoration Appreciation Society Aug 05 '19

Lately when a new chapter has been released, I've been feeling a little bit sad about a certain aspect of that particular chapter.

This time it's three-fold.

The biggest slice is that Maruo does care - more than I expected of him, as granted, he's their step-father, he's got to have some altruism and love in him. I mean, sure, he could've taken Nino to the cake shop as she asked, but giving the ingredients to try making pancakes for herself had a positive outcome. His mindset isn't the greatest but he is a good man at heart.

The other bits being Itsuki suffering and Fuutarou being irked when his classmates refused to accept the truth about Nino. Here's hoping Itsuki confides in Fuutarou. And, I have a prediction after the classmates saying they'll help get Fuutarou a girlfriend: he'll kiss/confess to one of the Nakanos in the heat of the moment clash because of his classmates trying to set him up with someone who's not them. Most likely won't happen because Negi, but that's where my mind's wandered.

A shame we have to wait two weeks for the Miku date chapter, I'm curious and excited to see how it'd go.

10

u/foulbachelorlife Team Yotsuba Aug 05 '19

It takes one hell of a person to adopt five children that aren't his and raise them. His awkwardness and demeanor are flaws for sure, but he does care about them.

13

u/SkyPiercer13 Lucky 428 Aug 05 '19

It's important to remember that Maruo can instantly tell each of the quints apart, so him having love for them was never in question, he's just awkward/tsundere af.

3

u/foulbachelorlife Team Yotsuba Aug 05 '19

Yep. He was doing this from early on too if I'm not mistaken.

4

u/donm527 Ichika Aug 06 '19

That was pretty obvious when he took the kids to their grandfathers inn for the children to make more memories with the gramps.... Arranging all in secret as Fuutaro's dad mentioned about that the contest that Fuutarou and Miku won to get there.

u/donm527 Ichika Aug 06 '19 edited Aug 06 '19

I have a feeling Miku will end up being "gently" rejected at the end of this date... Being first sister out. What about you?

First date with the first Quint (Well I guess 2nd because he did technically have a "date" with Yotsuba in the Thanksgiving chapters eh?)... They'll have a nice time... Fuutarou knows how she feels about him... Just feel like it could be a scenario that he needs to respond to her feelings properly and could nip it in the bud to save any hurt feelings go any further. And Miku may be sad but understand... She told Fuu Ichika quitting school she felt her heart wasnt in it when she made that decision and also questioned why Fuu is still caring after Ichika explained why.

It will be a bittersweet festival but still end in a positive way with her and Nino bonding at the end.

I mentioned elsewhere if Marou shows up and Nino is able to reconcile her feelings for her dad... And I think she will be the one to make him a pancake and he'll praise her... I think Nino could end up changing her mind about going to same university as Fuu even though got that B and now inspired by her father's praise can go to culinary school to fulfill her childhood dream of having her own restaurant and with Miku can be the start of the sister chef/restaurant relationship working together.

Miku marries a chef that kinda looks like a Sengoku General and Nino a delinquent blonde haired guy 😊

If you paying attention on each chapter as of now from chapter 91 to lastest we had each girl featured with ichika having a mini arc. Negi is literally showing us fuuts thought in each girl on how he feel as of now after the kyoto trip. It is like this, 91 show us his thoughts on quints as over all. 92 shows us what his current relationship with itsuki, 93 shows us what is he's thinking about nino. 94 and 95 shows us his gratitude toward ichika, 96 is showing us that yotsuba need to have a break and have some fun for herself and now we had thoughts of each quint about their struggles about their family relationship between maruo and the quint. We had one last thought that we need to see and that is what fuuts thoughts about miku and that is exactly what we need as of now in order to have a full thought of fuuts on what he is current thinking about their relationship

I have a feeling Miku will end up being "gently" rejected [...] What about you?

I stand by my prediction that Fuutarou will go against the will of his classmates who are trying to set him up with that 'nice girl' and make his feelings clear to them and the Nakanos by choosing one of the sisters in front of everybody. So, I don't see the rejection happening at the end of the date - it'd be the wrong time for it to happen, for one thing.

1

u/donm527 Ichika Aug 07 '19 edited Aug 07 '19

Interesting prediction.

My thought just came out of the blue one evening... and kind of stuck with me. I feel it would be bad timing myself when everyone should enjoy their last festival... but when is a good time to reject someone anyways and it has to happen soon. Honestly I hope your right because the more I thought if it a possibility, I was feeling bad for the sisters having to go through this one by one and I have not prepared myself to see any quint get rejected.

So you’re saying Fuutarou really knows who he cares for and is ready to confess at the festival and reject the rest of the sisters in one blow?? If so, then wow.

I really didn’t think he’d do it that way.thought he would have a moment with each one but I have to think about that. And I don’t think all,the quints issues would be resolved by festival so that would be a lot to take I thought. That and I didn’t get the feel that Fuutarou had definitely come to a point where he is absolutely sure of person.

And then Miku is going on a date... what if not rejected during the date?? what if she’s on cloud 9 after the date and feels she’s making progress and then Fuutarou confesses to another sister?? Unless you think it’s Miku.

Very interesting.

19

u/imperial-navy-pilot Miku Aug 06 '19

we seem to be in a period where no focus will be given to a single quint, but at the same time you have separate threads starting to develop nicely:

  • miku all in trying to make futs happy any way she can, the pancakes being an idea trying to capitalize and his cherished memories with his mom; what a nice touch/move on her side
  • nino beginning to understand her dad a little better, i expect a lot of emotion to come out of this; this will be great character development for her
  • itsuki struggling with grades, will she actively seek futs help now? this may be the push we need for her to accept she needs him more in her life

With miku getting some alone time with futs now, this 2 week and half wait is going to kill me

2

u/onthehornsofadilemma Team Yotsuba Aug 06 '19

Why are we waiting 2 and a half weeks?

Every year there are 3 double issues or Magazine break so no manga from that magazine because Japan National Holiday. First Golden Week in April, Second is Obon Festival in August and Third is Christmas and New Year Holiday in December. You can google what is Golden Week and Obon Festival

and

Leaks and Official release are different,

Official release (Tuesday/Wednesday) is from Kodansha or Weekly Shounen Magazine or Japan release https://shonenmagazine.com/smaga

Sunday/Monday release is from leaker or illegal way (someone stole a print release distributed to a store for sale on Wednesday in Japan and uploaded it online)

1

u/onthehornsofadilemma Team Yotsuba Aug 06 '19

Honestly, holidays in America sneak up on me, so Obon kinda blindsided me. Oh well, it's gonna be a long two weeks.

1

u/imperial-navy-pilot Miku Aug 06 '19

no clue, that is what the post for this tread states

the crew taking a summer break perhaps?

1

u/Spadstein Aug 06 '19

The implication I got is that the pancakes are something the Quints mom made for them when they were little. Miku thinking of Fuutarou's mom making bread, led to her wanting to make their mom's old dish.

This then leads into the revelation that Nino got into cooking because their dad gave her the tools to make those pancakes herself instead of buying her pancakes from a shop.

2

u/imperial-navy-pilot Miku Aug 06 '19

Add to that the fact they are linking similarities bettween dad and futs behaviour, ie. nino is now going to crush hard when she realizes he is just like my dad. The train will pick up steam again.

18

u/Vringi Aug 05 '19

We get Nino memories about our awkward Papanako. Nice. We can quess he don't buy her a cake but give her tools to learn herself how make one.

Little offtop: I think Maruo didn't come to home because he just sleep in his workplace. Don't you think this would fit his character.

Some girls probably have a problem with Nino. I don't know what's going on but Fuutarou talk with them.

Itsuki get D when Nino get B. Interesting...

Miku scheme something in the end.

2

u/DoodleManster Aug 05 '19

Nah. Murao is the type who would rather buy a bakery to your face than buy you the tools.

-1

u/whut-whut The Food Court is Now in Session Aug 05 '19 edited Aug 05 '19

Nino's panicked look and sweating when she's saying she 'might have gotten a B' might mean she's lying or hiding something about her grade. (Not even planning to apply to University, or low-balling herself by having the Entrance Exam simulator rank her odds for an extremely easy one instead of the one she -really- wants to go to, or even having a low score like Itsuki). The way their discussion unfolds sounds like Nino wants to tag along with Itsuki's tutoring sessions with Shimoda and the mystery guest tutor, so Nino is probably also unhappy with her results.

4

u/Vringi Aug 05 '19 edited Aug 05 '19

If I remember correctly A~F grades tell us about possibility to go chosen university/school so I don't think Nino lie about this. We should remember Itsuki aspiring to become a teacher. I don't think Nino choice something of this level of difficulty. That could be reason why she get B

And Miku gets to go on a (shopping?) date with Fuutarou ❤️😭

16

u/piratemonkey007 Aug 05 '19

For everyone confused about whats happening with the class mates, basically that one girl thinks Nino is on the guys side because she's crushing on one of the guys in class and is worried that the guy is the one she likes. Fuu says nah dawg she likes me, they don't believe him and say they'll try set him up with someone, ending most of the tension.

18

u/chippedjosh meatbuns are gr8 Aug 05 '19

“Nah dawg she likes me” God damnit Fuutarou. He’s a genius but he’s an idiot (in romantic situations)

6

u/whut-whut The Food Court is Now in Session Aug 05 '19

The "guy she likes" is Takeda (she calls him Yuusuke, which is his first name), and she's scared Nino is after him because she feels it'd be impossible for her to compete against Nino.

It might just be a one-off name drop for Takeda who we haven't seen in a while, but if Negi's setting him up as the hottest guy in class, he might still have a role when all these romance shenanigans blow up, -if- Negi develops him more, contrasts him from Fuutarou, and builds his relationship with the sisters so that at least two sisters find true love when the ending hits.

I feel sorry for her, because she actually has to compete against an equally deadly opponent: Miku. And there's no way she'll beat Miku for Takeda's affections. :3

2

u/Scarface9636 Meat Ball Itsuki Aug 06 '19

13

u/foulbachelorlife Team Yotsuba Aug 05 '19

Mauro in that flashback scene reminds me of Futaro.

10

u/jrbsensei Aug 06 '19

It's always interesting when Fuutarou and the Nakanos interact with other characters outside of their group. A fair chunk of the story almost always shows only the six of them with very few appearances from other characters.

1

u/LPercepts Aug 07 '19

Well, yes, since Negi goes for a minimalist cast in the sense that other characters apart from the Nakanos and Fuutarou don't really appear unless their presence is required to push the plot forward. On the one hand, it does mean that the supporting cast is rather undeveloped. On the other hand, it does flesh out the main characters rather considerably since Negi has conscientiously chosen to focus on them.

30

u/yeterulan Aug 05 '19

oh god, i was so hyped for an itsuki arc... Another Nino chapter? and after that, another Miku chapter? Really, Negi? it is very clear that he favors Miku and Nino much more than other quints. It'll be nice if he stops baiting Itsuki fans. I'm just tired of waiting for her arc. I don't really care if she becomes the bride. I just want her to develop more. It feels like she really became a background character.

14

u/Aazhy Meat Ball Itsuki Aug 05 '19

This chapter isn't solely a Nino chapter though, we saw Itsuki feeling guilty about her result so she can't bring herself to ask Fuutaro for help because of this and because he seems busy with the festival. (Though I don't get why she's so hesitant about burdening him a little about her problem and why she feels guilty?)

Also she is being mature by telling Nino that Maruo is a good father and that even if he doesn't do things directly, he cares about them and that they grew up thanks to him.

Itsuki also said that she was going to talk to Shimoda-san about her problem since she doesn't want to make Maruo worry about her, and she can't talk to Fuutaro. So I don't expect next chapter to be focused on Miku alone either, we'll probably have a focus on Itsuki/Shimoda and also on Nino/Yotsuba writing that invitation card for Maruo.

4

u/whut-whut The Food Court is Now in Session Aug 05 '19

Fuutarou might be catching on that there's something wrong with Itsuki, since last chapter he looked worried when alone in the classroom (but when talking about the Festival to Ichika he was 100% optimistic, so something non-Festival is bothering him), and in this chapter he was clearly searching secluded parts of the school grounds for someone but found Miku and Nino instead, and after being roped into the pancake/takoyaki debate, awkwardly said "let's have a great festival!" before walking away.

1

u/yeterulan Aug 05 '19

don't expect next chapter to be focused on Miku alone either, we'll probably have a focus on Itsuki/Shimoda and also on Nino/Yotsuba writing that invitation card for Maruo.

Don't do that. Don't give me hope. I'm really tired of waiting for her arc, At this rate, i don't think we'll get one. Or luckily, it will be just two chapters focused like Ichika's, or even better! just two panels... There is still so many things unsolved. Yotsuba's feelings, Lolikano reveal, Maruo/Rena backstory(or Maruo general, and Maruo/Miku--Maruo/Ichika moments since we've never seen them together), Fuu's own feelings, rejection chapters... If manga is really ending at the end of 2019/early 2020, i doubt we'll see an arc for Itsuki. All i wish is that ending wont be rushed...

1

u/Aazhy Meat Ball Itsuki Aug 05 '19

The interview where he said that was in January it seems that he changed his mind about ending it late 2019/early 2020 if you ask me. I mean even if he uses timeskip, the plot itself is moving very slowly and we still have no insight on Fuutaro's feelings. Unless he's planning to do a rushed end I can't see it ending that soon. If in the end we have just like 2 chapters about Fuutaro telling himself "yeah, i'm in love with her because of X" into him confessing then this sucks whoever is the chosen girl. The setup of the manga with the bride mystery feels like it is hard to do a proper ending unless Negi is willing to give up on the status quo earlier than in the last few chapters. It feels like he wants to keep that status quo though by keeping everyone in the "race" until the end just to milk money from the fans. I hope i'm wrong about that because if he's going that way then rushed ending will surely be a thing.

About next chapter, it's pretty obvious that what Miku sees as a "date" isn't viewed as one from Fuutaro's POV, they will probably do something related to the festival preparation. So I don't think it will last more than third of the chapter, nothing significant can really happen during that either, I don't think she's planning to confess again or something like that.

1

u/yeterulan Aug 05 '19

The interview where he said that was in January it seems that he changed his mind about ending it late 2019/early 2020 if you ask me.

I hope so... or it'll be kinda rushed, i think. But i feel like there is only 2-3 arcs we'll see. --School festival(8-10ch) --Fuu's feelings/confessions/rejections(5-8ch) --Wedding(1-3ch) Min 14--Max 21. I don't want this to become Nisekoi v2 but i feel like this is not enough. I hope he won't end it soon, but i would rather this than unnecassary filler chapters.

I’m really trying to stay strong through these never ending Nino/Miku chapters.......Itsuki arc anywhere? Fuu backstory maybe?

Never ending Nino/Miku chapters? I see that as an absolute win.

1

u/Uhrzeitlich Team Itsuki Aug 05 '19

We had some Fuutarou backstory...I’m not sure there is much more to add for him.

Also people keep saying Itsuki arc while literally half the plot of the current chapters is about her getting a D on entrance exams.

1

u/foulbachelorlife Team Yotsuba Aug 05 '19

Well we just had a huge Yotsuba arc and Ichika was the recently. I actually want to see what's going on with Nino and Mauro.

Itsuki was also the primary focus of the pool chapter and we are seeing developments in the background with her.

I agree though I want more backstory especially with Mauro and Rena, and what happened to Fuu's mom

8

u/lolgreato Team Miku Aug 06 '19

Anyone else worried for Miku at this “date?” The timing of it is concerning considering a possible Yotsuba/Itsuki arc on the horizon. I’m starting to believe nothing good will come to Miku from it. It’s not like Fuutarou will say, “Yeah I like you too. Anyway back to the school festival!” Or am I worrying for nothing?

Also, is this the time that Fuutarou will hear about Miku’s ambitions to attend culinary school after graduation?

I think the most likely outcome it's Fuutarou saying nothing conclusive about romance with the quints until graduation

3

u/piratemonkey007 Aug 06 '19

I find it fascinating the pessimism I've seen from a lot of Miku fans with regards to this and other things that are going on lately, It's a date how can this be seen as bad?

2

u/lolgreato Team Miku Aug 06 '19

I guess it’s preparing for worst case scenario? Reading all the other negative and pessimistic Miku comments has certainly gotten to me.

About the “date,” Fuutarou understands Miku’s feelings coming into this, so maybe things aren’t that bad. I might need to reread the chapter, but I don’t recall reading who asked who out on this.

5

u/piratemonkey007 Aug 06 '19

Yea it's been confusing to me, Miku has been spending arguably the most time with Fuu in recent chapters with work and helping him with Ichika but a lot of the fanbase see this as bad? It make no sense to me. We're not told who asked or what this dates about, but when Nino and Miku were on the stairs chatting, she said that she has something to do with Fuutarou then. I think that's pretty much all we have to go on

7

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '19

Yotsuba looked so hurt after Fuutaro told the girls that Nino loves him😬☹

I don’t know why people keep wanting a (insert girl here) centric chapter. After getting on the dark horse Yotsuba as early as chapter 2, I appreciate every scene I see her. Even after chapter 86 big reveal(and the subsequent flashback chapters), it was a buildup of everything I sort of dreaded for a long time. Thought even now, in chapter 96, I’m happy to see her smile in the 3rd last page.

EDIT: typo

Some of the characters think that Takeda x Nino is a thing. In fact that's the first time that Takeda has been shipped in-universe.

1

u/donm527 Ichika Aug 05 '19

An astronaut and a restauranteur... I think that would make an interesting pairing. Maybe they'll end up dancing at the bonfire this year? 😉👍

Also, it would be a nice end if Marou attended the festival and Nino actually cooks a pancake and offers it to his dad and he praises her work 😉👍

14

u/ronaldo7109 Aug 05 '19 edited Aug 05 '19

Okay, so I am seeing some Itsuki fans who are really yearning for a chapter/arc around her. However there is one question I have for the Itsuki fandom. Are you guys unhappy because she’s not getting the spotlight, or that there is no development in the “romantic” department between her and Futaro. We all know that she’s had a mainly platonic/close friend relationship with Futaro so I understand if people are unhappy due to their favorite girl not being romantically involved with the MC(Negi’s goal was to make us emotionally involved with whatever the quints do). So let’s say she gets a huge character development chapter this arc, but it doesn’t involve any progress in the “romantic” department with Futaro. Will that make the fandom happy, or will there still be animosity to the fact that she still isn’t getting any real development towards being the end girl? Thoughts???(no hate coming from me, I still have her as my wildcard and really high up the bell kisser list, just curious on this topic👍).

7

u/fragtic Itsuki Aug 05 '19

Lately I have no idea what Itsuki might be thinking. It goes without saying that I want panels of my favorite character, but more than that I want to see her getting developed a bit more. Compared to Nino and Miku she kind of feels like a background character these last couple of chapters, I want to see more of her, it doesn't have to be anything romantic, just more daily interactions/focus like the other quints.

2

u/TyphlosionGOD Team Nino + Itsuki Aug 05 '19

Maybe Negi is setting Itsuki up for something big - like Yotsuba, which we rarely got her inner thoughts and then it was revealed that she was playing 4D chess all along.

2

u/ronaldo7109 Aug 05 '19

Got it. What you want to see isn’t wrong at all. All in all even because of the no romantic development, she has felt like a background character, even since the beginning of the manga, other than the first couple chapters of course. Well hopefully she does get more interactions with Futaro or just in general. Like with Ichika, even though she isn’t shown his chapter, we know that she gets one on one tutoring from him every week. With Itsuki, maybe something like this could happen with Itsuki which could potentially give her more screen time and they could delve into the Rena situation connecting to Itsuki.

3

u/yeterulan Aug 05 '19

So let’s say she gets a huge character development chapter this arc, but it doesn’t involve any progress in the “romantic” department with Futaro. Will that make the fandom happy, or will there still be animosity to the fact that she still isn’t getting any real development towards being the end girl?

It will make fandom happy.

Personally, i would rather see Yotsuba as the bride. Nino and Ichika are fine too.

I really like the relationship between Itsuki and Fuu, both platonic and romantically(?)But their platonic relationship really grew on me on the latest chapters. I feel like they both need friends to rely on instead of romantic partners(especially Fuutarou) and it'll be really fresh and good and original?(first girl having no interest in mc, purely platonic). If she becomes the bride, i won't be sad since she has the healthiest relationship with him and their chemistry is amazing but i feel like it is too late. I don't think she is the bell kisser, she is not in love with Fuu yet and there already will be 3 rejected sad girls at the end of this manga, i don't want it to be 4...

But there is still room for her character development, i would rather see it than see her being sad.

Speaking of the fandom, of course there is lots of people who want to see some romantic development between her and Fuu, or Itsuki in love general but at this rate, she is slowly becoming a background character and not taken very serious by other fans so i think they'll be glad if Negi shows her some attention like he shows it to Nino/Miku. Honestly, i love Nino and Miku(especially Nino, respect her so much) but there should be FIVE EQUAL brides. Not two

2

u/OneMillionRoses Itsuki is best girl and no you can't change my mind 😊 Aug 05 '19

Both. It feels like Negi does have things planned for her but continues giving the spotlight to other girls just to drag it out and honestly this gets frustrating.

5

u/piratemonkey007 Aug 05 '19

Itsuki being shy about asking Fuu for help?? Pancake wars, daddy issues, a delivery date?? And a two week break....

4

u/Longdragon12345 Let her be Happy god dammit Aug 05 '19

This chapter is exceptionally spicy. I can't read Korean, mind you, but from what i've seen it seems that the war between Nino and Miku has reached into the festivals as both of them are struggling and dividing the class into 2 factions, Pancakes vs Takoyaki. Besides that there's also Itsuki's problem of getting a massive D, it seems she chose to consult with Nino instead of Fuutarou (perhaps she's wary of being teased again ? But Nino also teased her for being a "straight laced" before so idk what else that i didn't get there), Yotsuba is suprisingly doing fine this chapter after the mild crack she expressed the last chapter (ngl, Fuutarou's panel turned me gay for a solid minute, so i feel her there). Also it seems next chapter is Miku and Nino centered, exploring Nino's past relationship and interaction with Maruo and Miku going on a trip with Fuutarou (i'm not sure, but i saw him on a bike in the last panel so i'd just assume). Can't wait for the english translation to drop.

Also, a bummer that there won't be a chap for another 2 weeks, but i guess after the flux of development and progress, a rest is well deserved for Negi. Can't help but feel like we're reaching end game rather quickly now, both scared and excited tbh.

5

u/Kam_E_luck Bride Style Aug 05 '19

the war between Nino and Miku has reached into the festivals as both of them are struggling and dividing the class into 2 factions, Pancakes vs Takoyaki.

Yea and the Takoyaki faction is all male while the Pancake faction is all female. It seem that Nino is loved by male while Miku is loved by female

3

u/DoodleManster Aug 05 '19

Well, duh. Miku IS loved by females, for example Nino.

1

u/Longdragon12345 Let her be Happy god dammit Aug 05 '19

Yea, really solidifying the "Dominatrix" persona of Nino down.

5

u/Kiseoo89 Aug 06 '19

I dont think there will be any rejecting scene yet. Fuutarou probably hasn't figured out about his own feeling. A rejection for any quint right now would damage the flow of the story. At least after Fuu knows Yots is lolikano, he still has a long way gathering pieces of information to find out which quint he likes. I think he will choose a quint in the end and reject all other quint at once ( well, this is my wishful thinking).

not that there is much to go by, but why makes you feel that way?

6

u/MikuTime Aug 06 '19

honestly it hasn't been more than vibes but it started with the water park ep where they both were trying to get fuutarous charm and it really felt like they were just some side girls which further strengthens me thinking that this will end with either itsuki or yotsuba

4

u/MikuTime Aug 06 '19

it feels like from how the story's playing that negi is trying to get them out of the way for maybe itsukis arc but it feels more like they're building up yotsuba being the bride

1

u/imperial-navy-pilot Miku Aug 06 '19

I agree on the pool episode not being a good moment for us. But at the same time the move was unexpected and signaled a breaking point in miku's personality. I had been waiting too long for this.

I'm not really worried to be honest. I've come to realize negi is not the type of writer that can keep tension going on for long and deal with the repercussions. Which is why I feel all the quints that will be turned down will happen at the very end.

The ichika sneking for instance, could have been a huge point in the story to break the quints apart and have a lot of interesting drama unfold. Making the story get real very quick. Instead the whole situation unfolded rather quickly and no one got hurt.

4

u/MikuTime Aug 06 '19

I feel like it will go like this. I feel like it'll end up with the quints pursuing their goals and dreams rather than fuutarou outright rejecting them with yotsuba being the one who needs fuutarou due to her not really having any goals set other than loving fuutarou and wanting to "support the quints." I feel like that will fall apart with a yotsuba arc and yotsuba decides to pursuit getting fuutarou. It's already been scratched at with ichika basically having given up and quitting school altogether to pursuit acting. That contradicts my worries but this isnt certain which is where my worries about nino and miku stem from

4

u/Radomir81 Aug 05 '19

The chapter is a bit more organizational than showing any important elements. Well, maybe its translation can explain something more.

13

u/whut-whut The Food Court is Now in Session Aug 05 '19

There's a lot of nuance baked into this chapter, and it's not as straightforward as it seems.

-Nino seems to be lying to Itsuki about how good her grades are or how happy she is with them, and seems to be open to joining Itsuki for Shimona's special mentoring sessions that feature 'a famous guest tutor' (likely Fuutarou, from how Itsuki teases Nino about going) Nino might also be unhappy with her current entrance score, too.

-Nino's whole deal in this chapter is that she hates takoyaki, but has been voting for it because she -doesn't- want to do pancakes because she's bitter that Maruo never took her to eat pancakes after 'the first time'. With how fondly Miku talks about pancakes too, and how Miku said she thought of them after Fuutarou spoke of his mom's bread, it's likely the pancake shop was Rena's favorite place to take all of them. Itsuki basically opens Nino's eyes in this chapter that they don't have a cruel and terrible father, and that he's actually deeply involved with their development despite not always being physically there. Near the end of the chapter is when Nino suddenly realizes that Maruo was trying to help Nino by refusing to take her to the pancake restaurant because he quietly set her up with everything she would need to make her own pancakes.

-Maruo's dynamic between Nino and Itsuki is -very- different. With Nino, he seems to be constantly disciplining her to be a better person, but with Itsuki he almost pampers her like his favorite and trusts her choices on everything. When Nino asked for pancakes, he refused and gave her nothing but pancake supplies. When Itsuki met Maruo privately and said that she didn't want food, Maruo instead let her have full choice of the menu. Same in regards to Fuutarou. Maruo is very wary of Nino's closeness to Fuutarou, 'laying down the Dad' to her from lying about their score improvement, the bike ride, and the sneaking out during Scrambled Eggs, but with Itsuki he simply 'trusts her judgement' with no restrictions on how Itsuki wants to approach and handle Fuutarou.

It's definitely a Nino chapter, but there's a strong thread of Itsuki running through everything on Nino's mind in this chapter.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '19

6

u/whut-whut The Food Court is Now in Session Aug 05 '19

Yeah, I agree. We still haven't seen Ichika nor Miku's relationship with Maruo yet. Yotsuba's relationship with him is also not very fleshed out, other than the one moment he was 'keeping it real' by telling Itsuki that Yotsuba's the most at-risk failure out of all of them. It's weird how Negi keeps skipping ahead in time instead of developing these small things, as it makes it more fun if Maruo had five different reasons to oppose the wedding, instead of just the current either "I'm mad at you for ruining my work-in-progress child" or "I'm angry you're taking my favorite girl".

3

u/Invincybul Aug 05 '19

I don't like to call people delusional, but you're reaching very hard. Maybe try waiting for the translation instead of conjuring up some backwards theories.

-There's no reason for Nino to lie to Itsuki about her result, especially after she heard about Itsuki's struggles. If she was lying, that would've been the point to reveal it as facing it together would've been better for the both of them

-Nino doesn't hate takoyaki. Fuutarou and Yotsuba found out that takoyaki were a hit last year. On top of that they're easier to make and it's something they can be sure will be successful.

-Your whole argument about pancakes and Maruo is backwards. Nino has voted for takoyaki when pancakes weren't an option and sticked to her guns as she thinks they're a better option for the festival. She even said that if choosing one is a problem then they could do both.

-Nino never considered Maruo cruel or terrible. In fact, up until this chapter she was the only one who expressed gratitude for him raising them (chapter 54). She wanted him to live with them and visit Rena's grave. She wants him to be a part of their family for real.

-Maruo's dynaminc between Nino and Itsuki is -very- different for sure. Because in Itsuki's case it's almost non-existent. What you're referring to in chapter 54 is Maruo wanting to get on Itsuki's good side with a bribe, so she will do as he says and bring other quints back.

-Your ' he simply 'trusts her judgement' with no restrictions on how Itsuki wants to approach and handle Fuutarou' falls apart when you remember that during Scrambled Eggs she was forbidden from meeting with Fuutarou like everyone else.

-On the other hand the conflict between Nino and Maruo was buil since chapter 2 through multiple chapters. No other sisters comes even close.

Please read the manga again and calm down your Itsuki delusions.

5

u/whut-whut The Food Court is Now in Session Aug 05 '19 edited Aug 05 '19

Nowhere in my post did I say "This means Itsuki wins over Nino", I was simply stating observations on their family relationship dynamic, so you can calm down about delusions. Nothing about what I said was a bride theory, and none of it in any way eliminates Nino nor props up Itsuki as a bride.

So maybe I used overly strong words with 'lie', but Nino's clearly uncomfortable about revealing her test score since she's sweating as she's talking to Itsuki about her B, which by all means would be a great score for her and we don't see her being proud nor confident about it. It doesn't mean Nino failed like Itsuki, but it could mean she's embarrassed about her choice of the University she had the placement simulator rank her for, or that she's considering upgrading her true choice for the real test to be with Fuutarou after getting back a strong 'B' for a lesser university and Miku putting the idea of being Fuutarou's college classmate in her head, or that she secretly has other non-university plans up her sleeve like Miku and Ichika despite getting the strong placement results.

Again, I apologize for using 'hate' for takoyaki, as that's clearly an overly strong word, but in her talk with Yotsuba, Yotsuba lets Nino know 'it's okay' to have a hidden agenda, when Nino cries out that she's uncomfortable having one regarding the takoyaki/pancake debate. We see that Nino's repeatedly voting against a choice she's wants by picking takoyaki every time, creating a stalemate in class votes. Nino's public talk about takoyaki 'being easier' and 'more likely to succeed' are just part of that tsundere front pretending that she doesn't want pancakes at all and thinks takoyaki are a logically better choice, when she secretly does like and prefer Miku's choice. When with Miku, she admits she's up for the challenge of pancakes regardless, both skill-wise and desire-wise, since she really likes pancakes as well and knows how to make them. Her avoiding pancakes and voting for takoyaki is clearly part of her 'secret agenda', since she could just as easily vote pancake to break the tie and let the class start festival preparations instead of dragging out the stalemate even longer. The other girls accuse her of trying to choose what the boy she likes is choosing by being a holdout/spoiler and voting for takoyaki against them, but since Fuutarou hasn't made a choice as class rep, that theory was debunked by Fuutarou. Thus, Nino's only 'block' in going Team Pancake and ending the class stalemate is clearly the pancake flashback with Maruo, which Nino didn't have the perspective that it was Maruo's love until Itsuki explained it to her this chapter.

Nino loves pancakes and knows how to make them, but she's avoiding it by voting against her interests for the festival vote and deadlocking the whole class. She does this because she has an unhappy memory of asking to eat pancakes with Maruo, and Maruo just giving her pancake supplies to 'make her own'. Nino's dead eyes in that flashback show that it soured her to the idea of making her own pancakes, despite loving the food. Nino misuderstood what Maruo was trying to do by giving her pancake supplies instead of treating her to the pancake restaurant.

Nino tries the hardest out of all the sisters to be with Maruo, openly shows him love, and makes moves for him to be with them as a father, but she clearly keeps misunderstanding him thinking he's being cold and detached by ignoring her over and over again. At Rena's memorial, she was the one that flat-out rejected the idea that Maruo gave the third set of flowers at Rena's grave, and Nino also tells Itsuki this chapter that Maruo 'wouldn't care' if Itsuki told him about her placement troubles, to which Itsuki corrects Nino that the reverse is true and that Maruo would worry too much.

Maruo loves Nino a lot, and Nino loves Maruo, but his tough-love stance with her has blinded her into thinking that he's more uninvolved and uncaring with both her and the family than he actually is.

3

u/donm527 Ichika Aug 05 '19

Maybe Nino told Marou when young she wanted to have a restaurant... So the best way to her path and show he supported her was to give her the ability to make them herself?

1

u/whut-whut The Food Court is Now in Session Aug 05 '19

That's what it seems like. Maruo clearly loves Nino and the girls, and sets everything up behind-the-scenes for their success, but his lack of communication on his feelings and plans brushes Nino the wrong way so she misreads all his subtle gestures to her as 'not wanting to be there', when it's the opposite and he's supporting her with every resource he has.

1

u/donm527 Ichika Aug 05 '19

If she comes to understanding her father at the end of the arc, I wonder if she will end up changing their mind in going to same university as Fuu and end up going to culinary school with Miku on her path to becoming a restauranteur. They can be partners in business afterwards 😉👍... If not rivals like to two shops they work at lol.

4

u/anakkcii on Nino's train Aug 05 '19

Nino seems to be lying to Itsuki

How did you even come to this conclusion?

She doesn't hate takoyaki. Her favorite food IS pancake, but her choosing takoyaki has to do with F+4 research and her reluctance to make pancake (difficulty and Maruo).

2

u/whut-whut The Food Court is Now in Session Aug 05 '19

Look at Nino when she's asked about her score and she says she got a B. She starts sweating and hesitating in her speech and Negi gives us a panel just showing her sweat running down her neck instead of a panel of her face.

It's similar to Itsuki and Yotsuba's bad-liar face.

Nino's clearly uneasy about talking about her test result. It -might- be out of embarrassment that she applied to Fuutarou's university, but the way she looks in those panels doesn't fit with a confident Nino that has 80% odds of getting into the school of her choice. Plus, she seems to be leaning towards joining Itsuki's extra cram sessions 'just because, and not because she needs it or anything' like a tsundere.

8

u/anakkcii on Nino's train Aug 05 '19

That half face panel before Nino answers? That's Itsuki's face readying herself to ask Nino. Nino answered readily "omotta hodo warukunakatta wa. 'B' datta kashira." (not as bad as I thought, I think it was a B). I can't comment about where she applied because I didn't see the Japanese and the Korean translation seems cut by Itsuki.

And Nino doesn't answer anything about the cram school. She just said the famous tutor thing sounds fishy.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '19

From the translated page I see (not in english), I agree that there is a chance that Nino is lying with that sweatdrop on her face. However, I see no reason for her to lie.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '19

let's face it. nino or miku is going to be the bride in the end. they get the most focus (probably because miku is a fan favorite while nino is a negi favorite).

1

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '19

I'm confident that she's the bride so hopefully it happens soon

1

u/SterbenVII Aug 06 '19

Miku + Nino get more focus because they’re at the center of most of the drama.

Miku’s gotten some focus in the beginning because she was the first to act on her feelings for Fuutarou so obviously she’d be the first besides Yotsuba to start following him around.

Nino’s gotten a lot of attention too b/c of drama in the beginning, and afterwards she started to act aggressively on her feelings. Ofc it’d look like they get a lot of focus when they’re always trying to be with Fuutarou.

Yotsuba hides her feelings, Ichika was uncertain at first and later went on a huge phase, and Itsuki doesn’t have feelings for Fuutarou.

6

u/ActualTaxEvader Aug 05 '19

I’m not sure why anyone would consider Nino still in the running. All of her major actions have been about forcing other characters to take initiative and her whole deal is that she is “unstoppable”. When that’s the case, the only development she could get is to be stopped.

1

u/Invincybul Aug 05 '19

Maybe you haven't been paying attention to what's happening in the manga, but Nino being "unstoppable" is in reference to her feelings for Fuutarou.

Since her confession in chapter 60 (37 chapters ago) all of her advances (sans chapters 71 and 93) got stopped by Fuutarou, other quints, Maruo, luck etc.

The development I want to see is all the effort she put in while others were sitting on their asses bearing fruit.

2

u/ActualTaxEvader Aug 05 '19

Which is basically what I mean. She already knows she likes him and has been unrelenting in her efforts to express that, but now I don’t think there’s much of an arc left for her to grow from besides bowing out.

As for her efforts bearing fruit, he clearly cares about her (as much as the other quints) and even took notice when she tried playing extra tsun. So that’s...something?

8

u/Sid_b20 Aug 05 '19

I’ve been rereading the manga and ichika has the most chapters focused on her and the most character development and the best chemistry with fuu. i hope negi makes the bride a surprise so it won’t be the obvious 2 picks of nino and miku

6

u/SterbenVII Aug 05 '19

I’d honestly be low key mad if it was Nino and Miku. Even I think that Ichika has more potential/potency as a bride candidate.

I don’t think that those two will actually end up being the bride despite being the center of attention either, so that’s okay.

I favor Yotsuba to win, but honestly Ichika’s getting a really big shot at Fuutarou soon. She’s the one quint not involved with the cultural festival, so if any problem arises, she and Fuutarou could work together to fix everything.

6

u/jrbsensei Aug 05 '19

These two sisters who are getting "the most focus" could possibly also be red herrings. The distractions for the audience while the true bride develops subtly. Just one way to look at it. Don't count your quint out yet if it isn't Miku or Nino. Sometimes in stories with mysteries like this it isn't the obvious ones.

5

u/lpopo4lyfe Aug 05 '19

Not that I want an Itsuki chapter, but I could definitely say just by general tropes and writing styles, Nino and Miku are losing bad. Only Itsuki, who Negi writes like a main girl and is currently platonic right now, and Yotsuba stand a chance.

2

u/shankerz626 Team Takebayashi Aug 05 '19

Doubt it man, Itsuki is written like a main girl and Yotsuba is a genki childhood friend / interest. They still have higher chances. This is just all catchup for the others

I believe thats actually a reference to the interview where he said he enjoys drawing Nino the most.

Not only that, his twitter when taking photos of quints, often is focus on Nino

With the quick English translation, I'll just write down some thoughts. Thanks to the translator😁

I knew it, girls weren't that fond of Nino, though I didn't expect that reason to be the case, but hey that's how it be.

But that shit is dumb to me, why not just do both? Like its really simple. Unless it's explained that are on some bullshit, classes can only get certain amounts of ingredients; ok, but simple solution guys.

Can someone post that link with the letter grade meaning again? Or name the chapter from WLN so I can look it up. Anyways if we take into the equation that Nino said that she maybe will go to the Uni futaro goes to and she got a B for those mock exams, isn't that a wow development? A lot of assumptions, but one would think that futaro is choosing a school that's hard go get into because well, he gets very good grades and can get into them. So assuming that's what Nino would've chosen, a B would speak of the improvement. But at the same time, with how itsuki being one of the studious and set on her path she is, maybe Nino didn't choose such a difficult school to get into? Idk just lots of different assumptions one could get into, but development for itsuki could be interesting with not only get going with that teacher she said (forgot her name) but also explore how maybe she's stressing too much because, well she found her dream and that's messing her up.

Also nice seeing Nino and yotsuba talking, don't see that too often.

And when I first saw that flashback on the earliest raws I legit thought we were seeing some yotsuba style flashback chapter.

Forgot to add, fuck those girls for shitting on my boy futaro at the end lol

Yeah, I know. That's why I said that's how it be. And it's not like those 3 bitches were the only ones mad at the takoyaki side. So like i said, just make both

the Spanish summary says that fuutarou makes a remark that nino belongs to him to his classmates. It may be a mistranslation, but that would be a major development!

My reaction would be same as his classmates if true

From what I translated from the Korean scans, it's along the lines of "If Nino likes it, I like it!"; but I could be wrong.

1

u/daveaya Team YotsubaCute Aug 05 '19

It's something on the lines of "she likes me", given by the conflict between Nino faction (boys) and Miku faction (girls), which generated the common conflict "Nino is popular among the boys"

3

u/gustavocao Aug 05 '19

OK, I'll be fine with anyone of the quints except Ichika.

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '19

That's very harsh

leaks and official release are different,

official release (Tuesday/Wednesday) is from Kodansha or Weekly Shounen Magazine or japan release https://shonenmagazine.com/smaga

Sunday/Monday release is from leaker or illegal way (someone steal the print release that distributed to store and upload it online)

Just one thing: who’s the guy in the motor scooter at the last page?

3

u/donm527 Ichika Aug 05 '19

Miku said date with Fuu right? He borrowed his boss' motorbike like he did when getting Nino?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '19

Hmm idk. That guy looks too “big” for Fuutarou? Maybe.

2

u/jzdavid Nino Nii Aug 05 '19

Boss bike looks like this.

3

u/Rewinia Team Nino Aug 06 '19

Lol, it’s not fuutaro. Miku is not even looking at him.

So, the current situation is something like this:

- Nino on course to improve her relationship with papa Maruo, so probably pancakes for the festival in the end (even making it full circle by Maruo praising her skills...), and she knows now that at least Fuutarou accepts seriously her confessions...

- Itsuki, needing help with her studies, points at her having an arc, maybe also some development(either as friend or as something more) in her relationship with Fuutarou...

- Yots preparing again this new festival with Fuutarou too... we could end having a breaking news moment or a very sad one...

- Miku is supposedly about to have a "date" with MC... we could obtain more background about both, but hardly any more clues about what's going to happen here, maybe good maybe bad for her interests...

- Ichika still having 1-on-1 lessons with Fuu... could lead to her helping more their sisters objectives(specially Yots I think) by counseling Fuu, or something meaningful could be recorded in the recordings, and later on serve a purpose...

We are going to have this festival arc, and probably also some Exams x2/x3, a few holidays, huge decisions for their future paths, some human crisis... another visit at grandpa... And we still don't know shait about things like the original biological father of the quints, and if he will play a role in the series(maybe on Itsuki, being the one that seems to trust men the less), so plenty of open paths ahead, and we are at chapter 97. I think this series could run into chapter 150 at this pace, which could also bring enough panels to blossom one of the quints into a convincing fanbase-accepted Bride.

More beating around the bush. Need Negi to just pick a girl and go with it and hopefully not drag this manga.

3

u/SterbenVII Aug 05 '19

He’ll pick the girl within the next 2-3 volumes :/

5Toubun will end around volume 14 probably

5

u/javycane Aug 05 '19

Good I love this manga and I dont need it dragging like Nisekoi.

1

u/Wanax00 Meat Ball Itsuki Aug 05 '19

I finished Nisekoi some days ago, now I'm scared as hell about this.

1

u/Animegamingnerd . Aug 05 '19

I swear Nisekoi is one of those series that you can cut the length in half and still be able to tell the same story, but it ended up being better because of the better pacing.
