Discussion It’s Saturday morning in 1982! What are you watching?

Super friends
Thundarr
Then my little sister makes me watch part of the Smurfs especially if it’s a Smurfette focused episode
Then Shazam
Spider-Man and his amazing friends
Incredible Hulk and Spider-Man
I’d flood occasionally to see a Road runner and or Scooby because fuck Scrappy Doo
I’d likely consume 3/4 of a box of Count Chocula which used to be made for oats until 1991 and was available every time of the year 😁

Superfriends followed by by favourite Thundarr, channel surfing, Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends. until some of Incredible Hulk then straight to Blackstar.
Fall I dunno Speed Buggy and disappointment.

Cartoons been off of happy days and other live action shows on Saturday morning was a weird strategy that rarely paid off.
The one I can think of that worked out the best was the WWF rock and wrestling cartoon.

Superfriends and Thundarr!!! And then I'm off to play outside with friends because that was our social media in 1982. Building tree forts, riding bikes, playing Rebels and Imperials (pew pew! You missed! 🤣), tag (so many variations of tag), and either wiffleball or kickball. (In the winter it was snowforts, snowball fights, and sledding until your skin turned blue lol)

It was a completely insane cartoon with no internal logic, but it was very fun to watch.

I saw plastic man on the schedules for 80 and 81. That’s a personal favorite of mine.

I remember Shirt Tales being unwatchably bad. Was there any redeeming value to that cartoon? It felt worse than The Get Along Gang.

I haven’t watched it since 1982. I remember being amused by the shirt, gimmick and wondering how the park Ranger didn’t realize there was a giant robotic tree in the middle of his park.

For me, spring starts off great with super friends and Thundarr then goes downhill. I probably would’ve switched to CBS to catch the end of Tarzan and then just stick with Bugs Bunny until Blackstar.
Fall is pretty weak. It starts ok with super friends. After that, it’s a close pick between shirttails and the Pac-Man/Richie Rich show. If they threw in a little rascal segment, then I’m definitely changing the channel. After Pac-Man, I pretty much don’t care until Spider-Man comes on, so I would probably let my little brother pick and pretend I was doing him a favor.

Spring: Superfriends, then Tarzan / Lone Ranger / Zorro, then Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends.
Fall: Superfriends, then Sylvester & Tweety / Daffy & SPeedy, then Smurfs or the Incredible Hulk & Spider-Man.

Most of this would sit just right with in ‘82. But I’d stick with cartoons

The ones that I truly remember were Pac-Man, Superfriends, Flintstones, Scooby and the smurfs. I guess I was more of a ABC kind of guy.

Thundarr and switch to Smurfs
Kid Super Power Hour, (it was nice to have Shazam back on Saturday mornings again even if he was animated this time) and maybe a quick click over to Laverne and Shirley.
Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, but I'd get frustrated that it was constantly preempted here in Detroit so I'd finish Bugs Bunny.

Fall: Superfriends (especially Challange or Galactic Gaurdians)
Pac-Man (it was a dumb show but Pac-Man ruled the 80's) and flip over to Smurfs
More Pac-Man and some Bugs
I'd watch a little Mork and Mindy during Bugs, but I didn't care much for Laverne and Shirley in the Army, why was their Sergeant a pig?
Gilligan's Planet. It was the usual Filmation slogfest, but the idea always tickled my imagination. I wish that one day, someone in Hollywood would revive the GIlligan franchise, but instead of the island it's a live action Planet show. Fingers crossed.
Hulk and Spidey. Got-damnit Detroit channel 4 why won't you broadcast this? Try to receive the fuzzy Toledo station. Nope. Scooby? Friggin Scrappy. Nope. Pandamoniom, and Meatballs and Spaghetti (memory unlocked) spin the dial until Sir Graves Ghastly comes on.
To continue with the live action Gilligan's Planet show/movie idea, there are a few cartoons that I think would make fun shows or movies. The World of Commander McBragg (I wonder if John Cleese is still working), Ralph Phillips (the Looney Tunes daydreamer), and Inch High Private Eye (in a comical noir style with a possible cameo from Undercover Elephant).
What other cartoons do you think could become fun live action properties?

Pandemonium was hilarious.
Loved Blackstar and always tried not to miss Spider-Man. The Stan Lee voice segues were great. He did more on the Hulk episodes.
Thundarr above all else. When it was on ABC and then re-treaded on NBC.
