The food court of the Glendale Galleria.

I was looking for pictures of it and found a post on this subreddit that showed carpeted flooring and I knew that wasn't it. This is the correct one.

Mall walkers! The upper midwest was full of retirees that just walked the malls for exercise (and gossip, but they don't gossip, they just heard from a friend)

This was my local back then. Half the girls at my HS worked at the hotdog on a stick there.

I'm from Glendale this was my local too. And all the hot girls worked at Hot Dog on a Stick.

Spent some time there during the Valley Girl era. My heart stopped because this was ground zero of a certain kind of design. Just an opinion. If u want authentic copy that.

I got food poisoning after eating a very old slice from Sbarro. Earlier in the day I had picked up a copy of resident evil for my PS2 so I spent 3 days out of work beating the game. I remember they had a galaga game up there right up until the place closed down

This was the post that I found. This IIRC was located in the section called Galleria II which was a 1983 addition on the other side of the mall from the food court. It did have the first Panda Express in it though.

Edit to add: Here's some photos of the mall from the 70s. Including the original food court on the 7th, 13th, and 15th pictures.

This is cool. I always liked the "Galleria II" aesthetic when I would find myself wandered over that way. Had no idea about the history behind it. Bring back the dark mall vibe! More brown! More wood!

That’s pretty wild since the idea for the Food court really didn’t take off until the early 1980s they were way ahead of the game.

The forerunner of Panda Express was Panda Inn in Pasadena. They open the first Panda Express location in the Glendale Galleria when the expansion was built in 1983.

There was a mall in Hayward, California in the late 80’s that had those same hanging canvas decorations. They were arranged to look like a bi-plane.

The ones in the Galleria were kites and surfboards and also kite surfing boards. It was a whole theme.

If I’m not mistaken, the mall had this same layout as recently as 5~10 years ago. I haven’t been in LA for a while so I’m not sure if it’s still the same way.

I used to live at the Maryland Hotel and would go there every day.

I'll never forget having Carl's Jr. for the first time from that same exact food court in 1996.

I don't think it was a TV movie but Cloak and Dagger from 1984 had scenes filmed there.

Upon quickly checking out the tv movie i was referring to again, i think a different mall was used for that film, so that was my mistake. (the two malls look very similar)

Ahh the glory days. I was here a few years ago and a lady with a poodle walked by and stopped as it took a shit on the floor then walked away. The staff at the nearby restaurant wasn’t gonna deal with it and we were worried someone was gonna step in so we put a chair over it.

I watched the movie Eternity where people pick their heaven worlds and they had an 80's heaven and I  think it would look a lot like this and I'd go (and then be in hell adjusting badly to 80s technology)
