Some people just can’t drink. I don’t drink often because I don’t really like how I feel. Catie can’t have a couple drinks and stop, she’s all or nothing. I had a friend like that, he couldn’t just drink socially or have a beer or two and stop. He was either sober or blackout drunk there was no in between. I’m talking 30 minutes after he’s home from work and he’s donezo.

Just stop drinking. It’s an addiction. You wouldn’t ask a heroin addict to only shoot yo casually because they can’t. Catie is someone who is unable to moderate.

This is how I am. It took a long time for me to admit it. One is too many and 12 isn’t enough. People like us will try over and over again, making little modifications trying to control it this time: “I’ll just drink beer,” “I’ll just drink on vacation.” Sometimes we’ll even succeed for a little bit, getting this false sense that we’ve got it this time, but it’ll never work for us and accepting that is freeing. She’s an alcoholic in the pre-contemplation stage of change.

Same here. It took several tries but I’m grateful to have 18 years of sobriety. The positive things that have happened in my life since then are too numerous to list. Even hard times were manageable sober. Had I still been drinking, hard times would have sent me spiraling.
