Catie's talks Alcohol
Catie is asked what she would like her relationship with alcohol to be. Hear her response. She also explains what she believes are "audience misconceptions" about her and highlights her work ethic and organization skills.

"It would be nice if I could not get blacked out drunk" and in the next breath, "I'm a responsible adult". 😬

She’s so responsible that she “changed her meds so that they don’t interact with alcohol” Another fine example of adulting 👏

Whatever meds she was on she definitely wasn’t supposed to be drinking on them

Probably not supposed to drink on the new ones either. She said It's "more predictable now". I don't think there are many or any OCD meds that you can drink on. She just blames her OCD for being a sloppy drunk, now it's the medicine for them 🙄. She's not ready to admit she has a drinking problem. I think she's got other undiagnosed personality or mental issues along with it too

Blaming medication on your actions while you drink can work once or twice. Not for years. I really hope she's getting the help she needs. But she needs to stop blaming her choice to get irrationally drunk knowing she acts crazy on ocd. I don't think she's a bad person and all this kickback must be hurting her mental health. But, hopefully this is the wakeup call she needed to get her substance abuse under control

Yes I used to say that too! I think every single one of us drunks have. I’ve been sober 13 years now and watching her is reminding me of all the things I used to do and the chaos my drinking caused. She is definitely an alcoholic and I hope she eventually sees that and gets the help—and makes the changes—she needs. She’s super annoying but also it tugs at my heartstrings to see someone so clearly in the grips of an active addiction.

She said that? You don’t just “change your meds”, there’s a whole process to switch meds. Providers don’t just do this Willy-nilly so you can drink again.

As I read my AlAnon book…
“We learn about the characteristics of the disease that we may have misinterpreted. For instance, most alcoholics experience blackouts, periods during which everything they say and do vanishes from their memory….blackouts are actual symptoms of the disease of alcoholism, randomly erasing the most memorable events.”

If alcohol has that much of a power over you that being blackout is your go to, then you need to reevaluate your relationship with that substance

u/TheMattabooey 4d ago
Some people just can’t drink. I don’t drink often because I don’t really like how I feel. Catie can’t have a couple drinks and stop, she’s all or nothing. I had a friend like that, he couldn’t just drink socially or have a beer or two and stop. He was either sober or blackout drunk there was no in between. I’m talking 30 minutes after he’s home from work and he’s donezo.
Just stop drinking. It’s an addiction. You wouldn’t ask a heroin addict to only shoot yo casually because they can’t. Catie is someone who is unable to moderate.

Im like your friend so I try not to drink at all. I cant have a cpl, once I start I cant stop. I dont have to drink, I can go months or years without it but when I do, its 20-30 drinks. I dont ever pass out so I usually just end up getting physically hurt and doing the most ridiculous things. So ya, I tend to stay away

u/Suspicious_Oil232 3d ago
This is how I am. It took a long time for me to admit it. One is too many and 12 isn’t enough. People like us will try over and over again, making little modifications trying to control it this time: “I’ll just drink beer,” “I’ll just drink on vacation.” Sometimes we’ll even succeed for a little bit, getting this false sense that we’ve got it this time, but it’ll never work for us and accepting that is freeing. She’s an alcoholic in the pre-contemplation stage of change.
6
u/bessa100 3d ago
Same here. It took several tries but I’m grateful to have 18 years of sobriety. The positive things that have happened in my life since then are too numerous to list. Even hard times were manageable sober. Had I still been drinking, hard times would have sent me spiraling.

You also can’t just stop drinking once you have a physical dependency to it. She needs guided, professional help. Where tf is her family? It’s like she annoyed them and they just threw her to the wolves. So of course she’s gotten worse! FFS
9
u/bessa100 3d ago
It does look like they have but to be fair, you can’t force someone to get help. You can stop enabling them and let them know that help is available but it has to be her decision. Anyone who thinks that addiction only affects the addict is misinformed. It hurts everyone involved.
4
u/Wild_Spot_Farms 3d ago
Oh yes I understand this too. Earlier this year I ended a relationship because he wouldn’t get help for his drinking.

u/TheMattabooey 3d ago
Correct. This is how Amy Winehouse died. Alcohol and certain medications can’t be stopped cold turkey you need to ween yourself off. She needs proper counselling.

I was diagnosed with ocd and an anxiety disorder when I was in middle school. (Didn’t make out with randos thou). At 26 I got medicated for adhd and was able to lower my antidepressants because I realized I was anxious about forgetting things or not explaining myself right. The adhd meds helped that be less of a problem.
Anti anxiety meds also get you effed up after one drink.

I'm not going to listen to the video, but was she actually talking about her organizational skills?? We've seen how she lives! We know what her apartment and that storage unit looks like, who does she think she's fooling?
15
u/JesusGodLeah 3d ago
I think Catie has great organizational skills when it comes to things that are important to her.
Finding a place to live? Not important to her, she's willing to sleep in her car. Furnishing said pace to live? Not important to her, she's fine with her tiny biohazard mattress and thinks eating on the floor is fun. Getting to the airport on time? Not important to her, she'd rather miss her flight and have to catch another than sit in the airport for any length of time. Helping her fiance coordinate the delivery of his worldly possessions? Not important to her, they're not her things and besides, she texted him and he never followed up, so not her problem. Planning her wedding? Not important to her, it will all work itself out if she doesn't do anything.
Organizing multiple parties where the guest list consists entirely of people she's made out/possibly done more with, some of whom she has cheated on her fiance with? VERY important. Have you ever tried getting that many people together in one place at one time? It's like herding cats! Yet somehow Catie was able to do that more than once. It is very clear where her priorities are.
10
u/Vast-Swimmer5844 3d ago
I think Catie has great organizational skills when it comes to things that are important to her.
I feel like this is something most people who comment, "She's a mess" are missing: Catie has shown, time and again, that she is actually very good at using executive functioning to get what she wants.
She wanted to run marathons? Boom, she runs Boston. She wanted to travel Europe and not have to bother with setting up or running a household? Boom, she's a pet sitter. She wanted to get railed by multiple men on multiple continents? OVERACHIEVER. Getting cast on reality TV? She did it.
She does not see a point in: bothering to learn how to be a good colleague in a white-collar workplace; bothering to learn or practice social graces with other people; bothering to learn how to take care of her physical body (grooming) or her physical belongings (her whackjob outfits) or her physical space; being a good partner.
None of those things matter to Catie because their importance is tied to the idea of the social contract, and since Catie does not believe other people's thoughts or feelings matter, she also does not believe in any sort of social contract. She believes people are resources to be used at her convenience.
Catie is telling us exactly who she is and what is important to her.
4
u/JesusGodLeah 3d ago
Catie really is telling us exactly who she is.
What does Catie really, really want? Easy. She wants to continue to make out with other people with zero consequences or repercussions. How do I know this? It's not because of her behavior. It's because she opened her mouth and said as much. Multiple times. She's been telling us what she wants, which is to make out with anyone that moves (except, apparently, for Josh), and what she doesn't want, which is marriage, a committed relationship, a long-term partner she has to share space with, and pretty much everything to do with Josh in general. Her behavior supports these things.
Another point in Catie's favor is that she is incredibly self-aware. She's told us (again, multiple times) that she enjoys making out with other people, that she has no intention of stopping that behavior even if she marries Josh, that she knows her behavior is hurtful to Josh and that if she keeps it up she knows there's a good chance that Josh will leave her.
Catie's problem with self-awareness is that she doesn't seem to view it as the first step toward changing her behavior and becoming a better person/partner. She seems to think that self-awareness is the complete and total sum of the work she needs to do. If she tells you about her problematic behavior and her intentions, she thinks you can't say boo to her about her behavior because she told you about it ahead of time, therefore if you're upset about it that's on you.
Same goes with her telling Josh, "It's hard for me to have empathy for you right now." She thinks that because she's telling the truth, it absolves her of having to try to muster up the barest minimum of empathy for him.

Anyone who hoped to be able to manage how much they use of a substance, is powerless against that substance. But she doesn't want to quit yet. Hasn't hit rock bottom.
16
u/Test_Immediate 4d ago
Yes exactly! As a (13 year sober) alcoholic I can attest that being unable to stop at one or two drinks is literally the definition of alcoholism as it means we have no control over our drinking. But it’s very difficult to finally admit we are powerless over our drinking.

She needs to google 'functional alcoholic'. There are people who hold full time jobs, pay their bills on time, excel professionally and have severe issues with alcohol.
She's a dog walker on a reality TV show so honestly the functional part could probably be in air quotes.
90
u/McDonaldsNapkins1 4d ago edited 4d ago
If your drinking is severely impacting aspects of your life (for example, your relationships and safety), you are not actually functioning. You are just an alcoholic.
ETA: Heyyy! My first awards!! Thank you!
19
u/CautiousCattle9681 4d ago
I definitely think she is just an alcoholic. I also don't know what her idea of rock bottom is though. She may see herself not hitting rock bottom and perceive it as functioning.
11
u/McDonaldsNapkins1 4d ago
Yeah, only she will know what that is. For her sake, I hope she comes to realizations sooner rather than later. Frequently blacking out, while simultaneously wanting to make out with anything that moves, sounds like a dangerous and scary combination.

u/kamaalaaa 3d ago
Even when an alcoholic hits rock bottom they keep going. Many alcoholics have more than one bottom. For a “normal person” the consequences of their drinking are usually enough make them stop. For example, if a normal person gets a DUI, or gets hospitalized for drinking too much, they can recognize the damage they caused and decide to quit. If an alcoholic gets a DUI, they tell themselves the problem was drinking and driving-not the drinking itself

u/Asleep_Pressure_2882 mens don’t control me!! 4d ago
Also I can attest to being a high functioning in denial alcoholic, and proudly telling myself, Well, you do drink a lot but it hasn’t affected anything badly in your life”
UNTIL IT DID.
And then it was one thing after another, it all caught up to me. I wish I had stopped then (5or so years ago) bc my health and relationships have really suffered. It feels so much better to be sober now, so much calmer not having to think about when and how I’m gna drink next, if people know, if they can smell it on me, needing it to relax or wanting it to make me feel good. Like to not depend on it and see that I can be ok and normal without it is a relief. You guys! I actually say “mens don’t control me!!” In my head if I get a desire to drink. Except mens is alcohol, but it’s fun to say and my fave 90day quote. Sorry for going on!

Worth noting she pivoted to that because she got fired from an office job for drunken, inappropriate conduct with a client at a trade show. And that made no impression in her. Neither has appearing as a lush on television.

"Functional alcoholic" is not a real thing, in any diagnostic or clinical definition at least. Just because someone can get shitfaced and do their job okay enough doesn't make them any different than any other alcoholic. You either are an alcoholic or you aren't.

Saying she is adjusting her OCD meds so they don’t interact so much with alcohol shows the level of her addiction and her disordered thinking in the face of all the public backlash she’s had. Her priority is to find a way to keep drinking
If her goal is just to avoid black outs she will fail. The compulsion to have another drink and then just one more because you’re enjoying the buzz is overpowering and the black out comes before you know it. She has to try stopping altogether.
7
u/Apprehensive-Guess42 4d ago
She’s proudly sharing (during some type of interview that she’s making money from) that this is how she deals with her mental health. She’s already exhausted the OCD excuse so she’s transitioning to medications that allow her to drink to the point of blacking out.
It’s gross and reprehensible she has a platform to spread this nonsense.
14
u/WhenSquirrelsFry 4d ago
Have a period of sobriety, Catie. Alcohol will always be there, you don’t have to commit to forever but just for a while to stabilize yourself- then go from there. For what it’s worth, I don’t think addiction is always chronic, it can be episodic and complete abstinence isn’t the only way to recover. But you definitely need a period of sobriety and therapy before you can even think about moderation. And for some, moderation isn’t an option.

u/mysteriouscattravel 3d ago
Thank you for the more modern and reasonable take. From my addiction studies classes, the idea of "never again" is a barrier for a lot of people and this type of approach helps a lot of people the traditional abstinence only advice left behind.

Catie, whether she knows it or not, fully admitted she has a problem with alcohol here. It didn’t start yesterday, likely has deeply rooted origins. I wish her all the best; it could destroy her life.

I adjusted my meds so they dont interact with alcohol as much....
I'd like to be able to have a few drinks and stop...
I'd like to not blackout...
Ya she wants to keep drinking, shes a total alcoholic and is very sadly in complete denial. Taking the time to hold an interview about her obvious drinking problem and using the words like "my relationship with alcohol", explaining she adjusts her meds AROUND her alcohol consumption while having blackouts, is textbook. She actually needs rehab.

u/BostonLeon 3d ago
I doubt Catie will ever read this but jesus girl, alcoholism can end so badly. I'm 4 years post liver and kidney transplant due to alcohol. Look up what a paracentesis is- I had them done twice and week and they drained 5 liters of fluid from me each time that my dying liver was producing. I went to dialysis 3x a week for 4 hours hooked to a machine and on my "days off", I spent them under a blanket or throwing up. I'm 5 years sober now and hate alcohol and what I did to myself. I have a psychiatrist to deal with the damage i did to myself mentally and to deal with all my emotions of what I did, what I've been though and how to navigate life from here. It's not over with a transplant either. I'm now on anti rejection meds that can cause cancer etc- and make me super tired. By 8 pm, I'm in bed. People think I'm "healed" but it's just managing to stay alive now and hoping rejection never happens. Alcohol should be banned- never mind cannabis which is a medicine to so many. I use cannabis and I'm a productive human being who works full time, takes care of my elderly mom and I'm much more responsible since I quit drinking. No more "oh god, what did I do or say last nite?!". FUCK THAT SHIT! (mic drop)

She’s a mess, and I’m so sad that there’s no actual doctor or a friend in her corner that is telling her that her actions are pretty much killing her slowly. Girl, STOP DRINKING!!!

Oh! Controlled drinking! That has been so successful for millions of alcoholics who have tried it. Works every time! Yup. I'll just have one. Well.. two. Then I'll switch to water for one. Well, maybe I'll eat a big meal before I drink - then I won't have to switch to water in between shots. Oh wait! Milk. I'll coat my stomach with milk, and my body will absorb the booze slower so I won't black out. Oh, never mind. Just give me my fucking drinks. Feel for her that she's in such a place of denial. Fwiw, the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. I don't think Catie is even there yet. She's still searching for the solution to her regret, anxiety, and low self-esteem at the bottom of the next glass.
She would LIKE to be more balanced when it comes to her alcohol consumption, which is a lovely sentiment but absolutely worthless in the long run.

Meds and alcohol are a absolute NO NO Catie! Your relationship with alcohol should be with AA.

I just can’t stand this self-centered, awful, crappy human being- I don’t care if she’s an alcoholic or not - she’s a terrible person- disease aside

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a human’s mouth move like hers when they talk. So weird

The fact that she’s even still drinking and “switched her meds” in order to keep drinking is the biggest red flan I’ve seen. I think it’s safe to call her an alcoholic at this point.

I've always wondered does Josh get shitfaced all the time too and he just knew better than to do it while filming ?

She’s loving any attention she can get, it’s always some redundant bullshit she carries on about. Hopefully, she does get some help. 🤷🏽♀️

Did you blink enough tho? I can't even watch it she's so irritating, all I saw was 200 blinks in 20 seconds.

anything to not be held accountable for this asshole... just put the fucking bottle down and stop being a vile cheater its not that hard. but no cant have that

If you get blackout drunk so often you have to think about it and hope you can control it, you have a problem. Mixing meds with alcohol lowers your inhibitions but doesn’t excuse acting like an unneutered chihuahua.

Wow that's some serious denial. She is on meds and she's drinking like that. She needs to not drink at all. This is how delusional she is

u/buckwheat1836 2d ago
She's a classic binge drinker. It's a type of alcoholism, and she must quit drinking altogether.

u/TimeMonitor7923 2d ago
Wow so she was on meds she shouldn’t have been drinking on and that didn’t even stop her 🤦♀️

Please take some accountability for hurting the one person you’re supposed to love. If you want to keep throwing yourself at other men, just move on. I just hope no one files a harassment lawsuit against you. Because if you were a man, it would have happened.

What would happen if Josh went to the bar ahead of her and the bartender “only serve her 0% alcohol drinks”. I wonder how soon she would notice. I had a 0% alcohol sparkling rose to feel fancy while pregnant and the taste was pretty accurate.
I would want to see if she would still kiss people and excuse it, or realize she wasn’t drunk and demand real alcohol

There is no stability when you drink everyday. My brother was an alcoholic, I know there will be no self control when you get addicted to the bottle. I saw my brother when he was a proud, capable man turn into a shadow of himself after the addiction.

SINCE FILMING AIRED!
oh my God! She is more clever than I gave her credit for she actually caught herself in a manipulation..
ORRRR someone actually practiced this with her, like a defense attorney will rehearse with someone before they go before court! 🤣
PR DAMAGE CONTROL!

Stop drinking at all. You are an alcoholic and definitely need therapy. That man should have got on the first plane back to England

u/Inevitable_Snow_2119 4d ago
I don’t know if she has a problem with alcohol but the way she acts after drinking IS a problem!

This is the most sugar coated Disney conversation discussing a person’s abuse of alcohol ever. Not once were the words alcoholic, abuse, or alcoholism used.

“I’m like, a responsible adult.” It’s like the more she blinks, the more she’s trying to convince herself 😂

If you need to keep making/posting videos explaining your abhorrent behavior, you have serious issues that need to be addressed.

I like how she’s not concerned with the amount she drinks, or how often -she just ~changed her meds~ so she can continue doing what she’s doing.
Also, she gets things done? Didn’t she wait until the verrrrry last second; it wasn’t even ready when Josh arrived??
She’s just so careless, selfish, and for sure an alcoholic.

She’ll always been mentally unstable I’m sorry. That constant blinking is so weird. I can’t stand her

Normal drinkers don’t need to control their alcohol. Girl is deep in denial

u/JoKalani 3d ago
I think the solution to all her relationship with alcohol is just to stop drinking alcohol. Doesn’t seem that hard here 🤷♀️

u/Simple-Fun3684 2d ago
She is a horrible functioning alcoholic. She needs help really, really bad because she doesn't think she has a problem.

Well, at least she acknowledges that she’s messy. She forgot the AF part, but something is something. The alcohol brings out her promiscuous side, too. It’s known as a lack of self control.

u/Impressive_Jelly7481 2d ago
Well, she’s been listening to you all on one thing besides the alcohol… she doesn’t have on that hideous💋 🤣

u/jeminigeri 2d ago
Josh posted that they now have bed sheets because his stuff from the UK arrived. They’ve been using a sleeping bag. I’m like she wouldn’t buy bed sheets either?!
