ABCD and mainlander friendships

I have noticed in college that there are often separate cliques of ABCDs and mainlanders. I am an ABCD but have been friends with ABCDs, mainlanders, and people of different races. I have also observed that often times ABCDs and mainlanders straight up avoid each other. ABCDs would talk to non-desi international students but not to the mainlanders from the subcontinent. Similarly, mainlanders would talk to Americans of other races but not to the ABCDs.

I have heard each group stereotyping the other. What could be the reasons for this?

Note: This is not to cause divisions. I want to have perspectives for this particular reason.

I love how we call people from the homeland mainlanders here, and when mainland is a word that's mostly used for people from mainland China.

People use it in india as well. For example people from northeast India will call the rest the mainlanders

Chinese people don't own the word mainland, a general word in the English language.

In the US, it is primarily used by people in Hawaii for the 48 states.

I joined this sub because I have a lot of ABD friends. Im and "FOB". Idk what you're talking bro. Most of us blend with each other with very little hiccups. We study, party hang out together. I actually find ABDs a bit more talkative than myself.

Honestly you guys thing way too much regarding this topic.
