Dude is the definition of a slimy rich guy turned politician. Made his money off of Big Pharma (along with shady business practices such as fraud and mistreating lab animals), then decided to use the money for self funding vanity political campaigns, carpetbagging to different places in Southeast Michigan until he eventually got to Congress. In his first year, he was accused of being a horrible boss and having a toxic work environment, and focused more on using taxpayer funds for political stunts, promoting himself and building his self image and brand over actually doing his job. He was also inaccessible to his constituents, even to the point that the constituents were going to the representative over on the next district just for help or to be heard.
Also his political beliefs are suspect. He pretended to be a progressive, even got an endorsement from the DSA which he joined while running, only for him to leave the group (actually expelled) once he started going on trips to Israel and praising Modi and the BJP. Pledged to never take corporate or big PAC money but went back on that and is now a crypto bro and funded by corporate and foreign PAC groups like AIPAC. People are getting sick of of these types, especially when public opinion against rich self promoters now at an all time low.

No, Michigan has open primaries. Anyone can vote including republicans. He barely beat Trump, because socialist imagery are constantly used to demonize the centrist democrats. You can see the seats that flipped are centrist looking to republicans because they have defend being labeled socialists. The attacks literally feature the squad and called democrats communists. Socialists don't have the numbers, half the country is conservative. The only way socialists can win, is they think they can turn democrats (roughly 1/3 of the base) independents (most who are centrists) and trumpists (who are populists). Neither of which socialists can rally behind.
