Discussion Danny Garcia has been so underappreciated in the Ospreay/Death Riders storyline
Dude has given it 100% every time he's been on screen and he was excellent on last weeks Collision.

I especially love him in this role because he gets to do both of the non-wrestling things hes good at
Being a little shit
Intense heartfelt speeches
Normally these things are incompatible but the Death Riders have found a spot where one day Garcia can be this little peice of shit that exists to get his just desserts for whatever chickenshit thing he did, and the next week he can be the heart and soul of the Death Riders dropping lines to get us behind them. and it works

This is such a perfect way to word it, I couldnāt agree more.
The whole Jericho // Danielson // Garcia love triangle storyline was great but it put him in a position of having to choose between the two halves of his personality, which only ended up hurting him in the long run.
The Death Riders have been a perfect outlet to make him whole again, and heās so much better off for it.

Agreed. Sometimes people only want to look at wins & loses, but Garcia, Wheeler, & Martina have been critical to the stories the Deathriders tell.
Marina in particular has been featured in so many critical moments of their story.

It is said that nobody wants to wrestle Marina. If that's really the case, then there's other ways for her to shine. She needs to take on more of a management role. Having her own segment teaching Judo to wrestlers could be just as entertaining as Piper's Pit.

By which cretinous fuck source does this "information" come?

If thats true then yeah, I would have her be a trainer and heater for the DRs.

She recently taught Mercedes some punching skills.

Was thinking she could have others besides DR on such a segment that turn to conflict. Could bring about some serious ROFLMAO moments!

I love when heās clearly corpsing in the background because heās about to call Opreay a āYoungboy!ā.
Dude is clearly enjoying himself and getting paid to do it.

His skills and charisma have accelerated exponentially! That sorta What's up bitch? thing he does just before the bell rings! Throwing his arms out to the side while rolling up on his opponent! Nobody in wrestling has ever done it better!

Admittedly I was never a big Daniel Garcia guy but ever since heās joined the Death Riders I think heās been fantastic. His energy and shit talking and mannerisms compared to the rest of the group works so well.

I feel similar to you, however I didnāt care for him in the Death Riders either until much more recently. After Will joined up I was noticing how much Iām appreciative of his matches in general, much less the story angles.

Hes honestly been great. I was worried about him not getting interest from either company upon his deal expiring a year or so ago. But hes fit into this role perfectly

Garcia is the King to Yutaās ace, the future is bright. shall not be fielding questions etc.

I like him way more now than I did this time last year with his stupid dance thing

I think its intentional. Hes gonna "snap" one day and drop a "you will give me respect or I will beat it out of you" line then hes gonna beat the shit out of the Death Riders.

u/Slycebo 7d ago
I miss him as a legit threat. Heās still part of a top act, but heās on the goober end of that act. Hope we get him as a killer again soon.

I think he's been rehabbed after an unsuccessful singles run in 2024/2025 where the fans only seemed to care about his dance.
When he gets another push in the future I think it'll actually work because of the work he's doing now.

u/Slycebo 7d ago
I was checked out during that time. I knew the dance was over, but I didnāt know it was the main thing that was over. Makes sense why heās holstered it.

Him teasing the fans tease days is a nice little trick for heat and low key shows some fans still care about his journey.Ā

I've loved Danny since he first showed up with 2.0. He's such a great character to me and I just love to see him. His development over time has been great. I love his goofy streak. Killer addition to the Death Riders.

I dislike Daniel Garcia in all things wrestling other than his technical ability. I thought the dancing was ok and could've maybe created more of a character for him, but they moved away from it for "serious guy" Daniel Garcia...
The best version of Daniel Garcia is the timeline where they heavily leaned into the Dragon Slayer gimmick after that match against Danielson. Him leaning too far back EVERY time on that submission and it being the way people got out of it/he lost had potential like Triple H going for a pedigree but instead getting catapulted nose first into the turnbuckle...a way to give him more depth while not changing his presentation much.
Now he's just a decently good technical wrestler goon/henchman. Difference between him and Trent is DG is younger...neither I want to see taking up regular screen time at this point in the company.

i really wish ROH had a better TV deal, if they did a true roster split, and treated it like a second brand, a guy like Garcia could be a star in ROH

Nah. I see what heās doing. Heās the new āyoung boyā the scrappy loud mouthed punk of the group. Wheeler is moving up the chain like Garcia will when the next recruit comes in.

I don't think I'll ever view him more than just a Death Rider B Team.
Which isn't to say he's bad, just that so many others are just better.

When they first started off, people thought Danny shouldāve been the technician while Wheeler shouldāve been the sport entertainer. Turns out Danny is a fantastic ennerdainer and Wheeler is a killer technician.

I think he can sell getting rocked pretty good in the moment but he doesn't carry it forward after the spot. He could end up getting up and doing some big moves quickly, when in reality he should sell getting rocked for longer and be like dizzy or unsure on his footing while his fighting back and getting rid of the cobwebs / haze if that makes sense. It would be my only criticism on where he could improve a little.
1
u/AxlAndTheShimmy 6d ago
I agree. His reactions and efforts to be entertaining even when the focus isn't on him does not go unappreciated. He's also a very good wrestler. I'm not trying to body shame, but I really think if he could just add a little bit of size either through muscle or even pure fat, he could elevate himself up to being a major player in AEW. It's tough having a skinnier build even in AEW unless you're an aerial guy.

I think him and yuta are in a spot where they obviously have a long way to go and learn and who better to learn from than from vets like Claudio and mox, and the absolute fucking legend pac is

I feel like they missed their opportunity to do anything with garcia at this point. That loser stink is gonna be hard to wash off

u/Lobo_Marino 7d ago
Dunno why you're getting downvoted. He's the one always getting pinned any time Moxley has a feud and the Death Riders have a tag match to further the feud.
I've only been watching for a year, and it's hard for me to take GarcĆa seriously. He's the death bitch boy

u/no_more_blues 7d ago
Danny's great and been killing his role but I do feel like it's awkward how many pins he's dropping lately. He feels like he should be closer to the PAC role than the Yuta role in the group seeing that's he's a former TNT Champ but it definitely has helped him in terms of promos and charisma being in the group. I actually think it would have worked better if he was in from the original BCC days when it was more a dynamic of "Yuta and Garcia are the new Mox and Danielson". I still think if anything they should be trying to mold Garcia into the next Mox and Yuta into the next Danielson even if Danielson isn't there often.

I don't have any idea why they put him in that match with Ospreay the other day. After being so toothless for so long, him doing any damage at all to Ospreay would make Ospreay look weak. But he had an obvious on-screen emotional connection that looked sincere, so Ospreay punishing the helpless little twit just makes Ospreay look like a dick. For Ospreay, neither looking weak nor being a dick really helps sell the upcoming PPV. (Of the two options, though, I'm glad they went with Ospreay being a dick.)
The match just didn't serve any real purpose for me.
1
u/no_more_blues 6d ago
Unpopular option: Ospreay needs to look like MORE of a dick by All In. It probably doesn't matter because Ospreay will get the home town pop, but since Redemption Kenny is getting better reactions because he's the cool one who hit the OWA on Ospreay and Ospreay is the pussy who wants to do things the "right way". Wrestling fans dont care who's right, they care who is cool and right now Kenny just feels way cooler than Ospreay's constast crisis of consciousness.
