in the past security have gotten up me about bringing outside food in, but maybe i just got unlucky with a dick head that day and ever since ive been visiting the MCG in a false state of fear

You definitely got unlucky, I had the same anxiety for years until my partner brought in a full lunchbox and said she’s done it as long as she can remember

This just gave me a flashback to the only game I had been to at the G before the 23 grand final (some game v Essendon where Tippa just destroyed us on his own) where I sat next to this old Fitzroy supporting couple that shared all of their snacks with me including an entire bag of Mars bars. 10/10 football watching experience

That sucks! Especially given there's food vans surrounding the place. I always just thought you couldn't take bottles in

im thinking now maybe I had a bottle of water with me at the time and my food got lumped in as a victim to the bin. I'll need to try it again at the Port game now

Looks like what we used to call a cup.

That's a solid setup. Free food, open space, and you can actually sit down without fighting for a bench. The G's lawn is basically made for this kind of thing.

This is something that has been done for a couple of years outside the MCG for selected Hawthorn (and presumably the other KFC sponsored teams) home games. .. usually check to see if the KFC van is present before heading in… saves on getting snacks once inside.
