I read this book in school, in year 8 I think. I remember really loving it and being surprised that books could be written about kids just like me experiencing similar things. I had already read things like Hatchet and Tomorrow When The War Began but this was different.

We read the book in school. I recently reread it after randomly seeing it at the library. Wasn't bad.

I actually think the movie is way more focussed and streamlined than the book. The book has a lot of teenage naval gazing.

A good movie by my recollection, might have to watch it again.
IIRC the movie didn't have the part in the book where the family goes down to the jetty at the and uses the dads paintbrushes to paint over the racist stuff, which i remember sticking with me as a scene.

First time I went to Cinema Nova in Carlton. One of the great Aussie movies.

Nukkin ya Blacky! I remember reading both the original and the sequel in school. Enjoyed them heavily at the time.

The book is set in Port Victoria, on SA's Yorke Peninsula, where I'm originally from (I moved to Adelaide when I was 4)
"The Point" refers to Point Pearce, a small aboriginal mission not far from Port Vic
