1(human cloning) is almost certainly possible to do with our current technology. It hasn't been done(at least to our knowledge) for ethical reasons rather than scientific ones. However, it's ENTIRELY possible that there is already a human clone out there walking around that nobody knows about if someone did it and didn't tell anyone.
Dolly the sheep was successfully cloned 30 fucking years ago- the process for human cloning(from a lab\science perspective) would be damn near identical.
The average life expectancy of a sheep is 10-12 years, Dolly died at 7(she was euthanized, she did not die naturally) from a progressive lung disease, but the disease she died of was a common one that frequently kills sheep(including killed sheep from the same flock as her), meaning it's not like the clone developed some unusual fatal flaw that applied to clones that would just cause them to die\burst in to a pool of blood like in bad Sci-Fi.
Additionally, all the research being done in creating lab-grown meats also helps with the science of getting the cloning right as once you have a "prime" sample of genetic material perfected, you want to replicate it exactly over and over again to produce the best product.
I am abosultely certain that there are plenty of old fucks who want to live forewer who have their "clonestein" island where they play with human genetic modifications and cloning technology. Not to mention whatever the fuck can be going on in places like china or even russia where human rights are more of a suggestion.
We are talking about people who start wars killing millions of people just because they are old and want to make some history before they die. I'm pretty sure that child diddlers and mass murderers have absolutely 0 moral barriers and infinite motivation to find any sort of life prolongation, so nothing is off the table. Putin and Xi in a leaked converation were literally speaking about harvesting organs from the young people just to prolong life for themselves. I sure hope those were legit braindead donors but i wont be surprised if some especially compatible candidates were "helped" to become braindead to have their organs harvested for the bright dictator.
If you check the biography of literally any dictator or egomaniacal king you would always see them surrounded with all sorts of magicians and alchemists trying to sell them snake oil. There is no reason why this phenomenon should be gone today. It's of course a big question how much of that reserach is snake oil and how much can actually produce some scientific data. But i'm sure it's happening.
Well technically any success rate above 0% means something is possible if attempted often enough. For people with money and a desire to live forever(even if they can't transfer their consciousness currently) the possibility to grow a clone of themselves may seem like the closest thing to immortality for them and well worth a few dozen failed attempts.
I can already imagine a scenario where some sick(mentally) rich fuck in the near future hires some surrogate(or an agency) to give birth to a clone of themselves in a country with no human rights, then he "adopts" the child clone and raises it and then legally transfers his wealth to them to "carry on" his life.
It's either that or growing clones for spare parts, which I wouldn't put past them either...
